Colbert on the iPhone
"The legends are true, it exists." No, Colbert wasn't talking about the iPhone, he was talking about "the much feared double-wag" of his finger Apple got for the new phone that left him "flaccid with rage." You know, these Colbert sound bites aren't really working out -- just watch the video, ok?

You should buy an HTC Excalibur/XDA Cosmo/T-Mobile Dash.
Zadillo @ Jan 13th 2007 11:18AM
If you don't specifically need the phone functionality, you might wait until the next actual hard-drive based iPod comes out, which I expect would have a lot of this same functionality (and perhaps even wifi to be able to use the web browser, etc.), but would have more capacity so you could have more music and video with you.

I never watch his show, but I happened to catch this today!
Must be a slow news day for him...

Apple is dumbing down the population.
This company is evil, i cant believe a company that will dumb down it followers to strictly stay with them
can have such a large fan base of whinning little bitches towards anything not apple.
At least microsoft and linux makes a pro out of you t oa point where you can handle any task.
specially windows it crashes so much that by the third time you know exactly what to do.
Linux on the other hand is just plain intimidating I LOVE IT thats how computers should be.
Live on linux.
Legodude522 @ Jan 13th 2007 3:37AM
I will have to agree with you there GenOve. It's not easy to tell people that. But yeah, it's kinda true.

It is sad that you feel the need to prove to the world that you are an uneducated idiot.
Zorque @ Jan 13th 2007 5:15PM
Yeah, it's just too bad OSX is basically a GUI over a UNIX core, so you have to know quite a bit about the computer to get the most out of it.
Jonathan Zencovich @ Jan 12th 2007 11:32PM
The part that got me was the "before the iPhone starts hunting down John Connor."

Its unfortunate that Colbert hasn't gotten to the real multi-function multi-source All-in-One Incorporater that is taking over the world (or has it already....?*cue dramatic music*) Microsoft.......!
Prezzie @ Jan 12th 2007 11:35PM
I think that he should've given the iPhone a wag of the finger just because it sucks.
Alex @ Jan 12th 2007 11:58PM
Wow, good reporting guys. Good blogging.

omg that was awesome. wish i got to see that episode live. Though windows live has a better chance of turning into skynet than the iphone does lol. and this coming from a microsoft fanboy lol.

This apple phone is getting negative publicity these days. It has become "this year's zune" , or worse after Cisco will own them, or what was that word again? pwn? lol.
Zadillo @ Jan 13th 2007 11:21AM
1) Cisco of course isn't going to own them. If worst comes to worst and they couldn't settle out something reasonable, all Apple has to do is change the name (to ApplePhone, to iPod phone, etc.). Apple doesn't NEED to keep the iPhone name so badly that the product would fail without it. 2) This year's Zune? I think that's a bit of a stretch. The negative publicity the Zune faced had a lot to do with the fact that it wasn't different enough from existing mp3 players on the market, and the "social" feature of it seemed to be somewhat limited. So far the negative publicity around the iPhone is pretty much focused on a) the product name's trademark dispute and b) questions about how open the platform will be, how much it will really compete head-on with actual smartphones, and how much it is more just a cellphone with a very nice interface. These are really very different issues from the Zune.

He's right, the television would work great for looking at Geography... Gotta love them large screen maps!
The iPhone-ator @ Jan 13th 2007 4:01AM
Your clothes - give them to me, now. I can't hunt John Connor with my junk hanging in the wind. I'm too flaccid with rage!
BigD @ Jan 13th 2007 5:58AM
Wow. I almost threw up laughing after watching this. My face is red, my throat is raw, and my neighbors are glad that I've STFU.
Colbert is a genius.
modafroman @ Jan 13th 2007 7:25AM
Like I said on engadgetmobile... What a stupid jesus loving idiot.
alex kessaris @ Jan 13th 2007 10:16AM
this is a really funny clip. He's so subtly sarcastic.

I'm not going to say what this would be awesome for, but it rhymes with... pornography...

Is it me, or does virtually every post on here which criticises the iPhone get a "Lowest Ranked" rating? Do the Apple fanboys have nothing better to do?
[expects inevitable low ranking]

Wow... are you that stupid?
Louis S. @ Jan 13th 2007 1:27PM
I like the idea of an iPhone. Really, I think it's pretty cool product. But that price... I think they should've waited a bit before unveiling it. $599 is just too much for a phone with 2-year contract. With iPod and everything and all.
Demios @ Jan 13th 2007 2:19PM
Gawd I love Colbert.
Greg Legowski @ Jan 13th 2007 3:39PM
@modafroman:
It's called sarcasm. Look it up.
I caught the clip live, and was doubled over laughing. Good stuff.
Charles R Hamilton @ Jan 13th 2007 4:54PM
You would think, that since this is on the "Comedy Channel" it would be funny. You would be wrong. I have heard Colbert say some funny stuff, but comedy with an agenda other than simply making you laugh (Stewart, Black, Carlin nowadays, and Miller on the other side) is rarely funny.
iHate @ Jan 13th 2007 5:06PM
that guy is just iMad because it's smarter then he is. so iNstead of iCompete, he tries to gather iHate. the iPhone will probably make Apple way more iMoney than he'll ever iMake and in his iLife! all apple's gotta do is lower the price a little, even still!
The TV iStudio probably doesn't iPay him enough to iGet an iPhone.
Impure @ Jan 13th 2007 7:15PM
OSX is perfect...it doesn't crash and it doesn't get in the way in its normal everyday GUI operation. And if that gets too limiting for what you want, you drop a terminal and start shelling it up. That's what an OS should be...as simple or as complicated as you want it to be, when you want it to be.
daliminator2000 @ Jan 13th 2007 8:18PM
@Impure; DOESN'T CRASH? I beg to differ, sir. That beach ball of doom is scary as hell and comes up at least as often as program errors in my PC.
