Yeah, we know it was
unofficially officially announced earlier this week, but Microsoft's release finally hit the wires about Windows Mobile getting pushed out the door (for 3GSM). It's pretty much everything we already knew about the OS, but now more info about the devices and who's getting what. But before we hit that, we also got some interesting information about additional screen resolutions: yes,
WVGA (800 x 480) is now supported, as well as 320 x 320 -- you know
who's been asking for that res. Now, a few more bits on where 6 is headed:
- T-Mobile is indeed putting it on the Dash ("in the coming months"), still no word on the MDA
- Orange's SPV E650 (HTC)
- AT&T, Chunghwa, Sprint, Telefónica, and Verizon
- Dopod, HP, LG (more on that in a few), Moto, Palm, Samsung, SoftBank, Toshiba, and Vodafone
- Probably a lot more, too.

You would've thought that they'd have at least cleaned up the looks of the scroll bars...

I wonder how long it will be before they start getting this integrated into phones? I am eyeing a moto Q from sprint and would rather wait for 6 vs getting locked into a contract now with winmo 5

I see Palm's name on the list please tell me Treo 700wx users are getting some love!
Steve @ Feb 11th 2007 8:46PM
As a new owner, heres to hoping the Treo 750 will get an upgrade!
Sprint Customer @ Feb 11th 2007 9:16PM
I spoke to a Sprint Tech Supervisor she said that the new Sprint Q which you still can't buy in stores its so new will Definitely be able to upgrade Free of Charge to Windows Mobile 6. "I almost passed out"
At first a lower tech support female said that she checked with her Supervisor and she said yes I did not belive them I waited over 20 minutes ON HOLD for yet another Supervisor thats 3rd Party verification
Who yet again confirmed that the Sprint Q is and will be Updated to Windows Mobile 6 ( I made them note my account about the conversation on that Sprint will update my Q from WM 5 to 6)
I asked her about WM 6 on the 700WX and she said that No not for now at least it was more up to Palm to decide that.
But the Q yes and very soon.
If you read the Windows Mobile TEAM BLOG (they hint to this) Since they feel very upset that QWERTY Smartphones like the Q and BlackJack Can not dial phones like
1 (800) FLOWERS it was the Windows Mobile Teams fault and they are sorry
And heres a Quote from the Team Blog who makes Windows Mobile 6
Is it ever going to get better?
"As always, I can’t announce features. But I will say that the Q is one of the hottest selling Windows Mobile devices ever. And the general category of QWERTY Smartphones is doing very well. While we don’t consider the ability to dial personalized phone numbers the most important feature on a phone, we do recognize that it’s an important feature. So, while I can’t announce features or dates or even promise that anything will be done, I can say that we want to provide a real solution that’s better than the user ones above."
Its an embarasment to Microsoft that I can't Dial 1 (800) 4 MY XBOX from a Windows Phone typical Microsoft (apple won't be so careless with teh iPhone) Wake up Windows Mobile Team and make the update for ALL Q's
Serioulsy the Q and BlackJack are the BEST and Fastest selling Smartphones ever you think they will just abandon them and not update them. Thats about as good as leak from tight lipped Microsoft engineers and coder as you'll ever get they like their jobs so they stay quiet.

I was getting all ready to flame you, Chris, for your comment, and then I actually looked at the screen shot. Damn! The scrollbars look really, really ugly, especially compared to the spiffyness the rest of the UI exhibits. I hope to god that those scroll bars don't actually look like that!
Ayle @ Feb 11th 2007 9:39PM
Sorry they do look like thatr.....
Jonathan B @ Feb 11th 2007 9:05PM
Telefonica is O2, right? Or is it Orange... I hope O2 update the Xda Exec, or I'll have to get a 3rd party rom.
I thought WM5 supported 800x480, you can use it on the emulator and the Dualcor cpc had 800x480 res.
Cesar Cardoso @ Feb 11th 2007 9:05PM
Please please please Microsoft, don't let those horrid WinCE 1.0-era scrollbars go to WM 6!
Jesse S @ Feb 11th 2007 10:22PM
It's completely up to the carriers if they choose to allow their phones to be upgradeable or not.
Verizon's i760 by Samsung was the first device announced to have WM6, and it will probably be the best one with it.

"You would've thought that they'd have at least cleaned up the looks of the scroll bars..."
hahaha.
They paying homage to windows 3.x???

Seeing the features of this phone and various pics, the only thing that's keeping me from upgrading my Treo 650 (Palm) is the ability to sync with the Mac (maybe The Missing Sync will eventually support this new model)
I was a long time Windows Mobile user before going back to Palm in 2005 when my Jornada 568 became useless. The Moto Q is the only phone that looks cool enough to replace a Treo.
Jon @ Feb 12th 2007 12:18AM
Can WM5 users upgrade to this? Or is that not an option?
JD @ Feb 12th 2007 1:49AM
yeah, saem question... can I upgrade my Treo 750 to this?
TyTN @ Feb 12th 2007 8:33AM
I currently have an 8525 and know there's a ROM update coming out to enable Push to Talk. Anyone know if the udpate will contain WM6 as well? That would be sweet if Cingular included it...
PG @ Feb 12th 2007 10:03AM
Well, I just ordered a Samsung Blackjack couple of days ago. Figures. Sigh......
