LG's VX8700 clam launches with Verizon
Prepare to get your shine on VZW customers -- the LG VX8700 is up, pretty, and ready for purchase. As a wink-wink, nudge-nudge in the direction of LG's Shine branding, Verizon calls the new clamshell a "shiny new addition" to their LG lineup. No surprises on the specs: V Cast support, stereo Bluetooth, microSD expansion and 2 megapixel cam. Ink a 2-year deal and she's yours for $179.99 after $50 online discount. Now go get it, the first Shine has arrived Stateside and is exclusive to Verizon.

dunno, but that keypad looks awfully close to the razr-one from moto!
Rick Lyon @ Apr 6th 2007 8:38AM
Hey it's the new RAZR, oh, LG? Wait, ah, hmmmm
TicalWRX @ Apr 6th 2007 8:43AM
I ordered mine about 20 minutes ago. I can't wait! Flash UI, 2MP camera, QVGA screen!
Austin @ Apr 6th 2007 9:04AM
Yea, I got mine from Verizon a couple of years ago. It was called the Razr. Good job VZW. A lot of forward thinking here.
How about a releasing a decent PDA phone for once!!! Grr...
Jeesica @ Apr 6th 2007 9:19AM
in case u ppl havent realized slim is the new style. so what is the keypad looks the same. i dont see the razr shinings. or with a 2mp camera. this is a good unique phone!

Motorola: "We're going to sue them into the stone age"
Casey Jones @ Apr 6th 2007 9:31AM
are these in stores or are demos, I wanna see it in person
Tom @ Apr 6th 2007 9:48AM
too bad the flash UI will still be crappy verizon UI
raulr @ Apr 6th 2007 9:51AM
I agree with others. Looks just like a razr. Only difference in design is the horizontal external display. Nothing more than a razr clone with updated specs.
Michael @ Apr 6th 2007 10:07AM
It's "nudge, nudge, wink, wink..."

*Paris Hilton moment*
That phone is like sooo 2006!
C.scott @ Apr 6th 2007 1:30PM
It actually is pretty close to the LG 8600(Chocolate Flip) in its features and layout. Stereo bluetooth and expansion slot same as chocolate flip, but touch sensitive external music controls are missing.
Mark M @ Apr 6th 2007 12:40PM
I don't mind a phone being "sooo 2006" as long as it doesn't suck.
wWw @ Apr 6th 2007 1:41PM
What can I say? I'm allll about style style style :P
John B @ Apr 6th 2007 1:01PM
I just hope it's studier then the VX-8600.
wWw @ Apr 6th 2007 1:39PM
I meant: Razr, Chocolate, VX8700... their style is already outdated to me. The iPhone looked interesting for a few months, but it looks bulky now.
Zach @ Apr 6th 2007 3:58PM
Its nice but it isn't $180 nice + 2yr. gotmebytheballs contract.
Razr, it definitely is not. The layout of LG phones are :) and if the UI of my u740 resembles anything of the LG's then the menu layout is basically immaculate!
I'm tired of this "Verizons UI sucks" what sucks about it, and what makes cingular or t-mobiles any better. Personally, I love u740's "My Desk" flash layout!
Pete @ Apr 6th 2007 4:55PM

Maybe you've been living under a rock, but T-Mobile and Cingular don't HAVE a unified UI. Verizon is the only one to insist that all its shitacular phones have to have the same interface, suppressing innovation and design.
Check out Samsung handsets on Sprint or T-Mobile and see what you're missing out on.
Jay @ Apr 6th 2007 7:45PM
Pretty nice looking, but its nothing that's gonna have me throwing my Chocolate at a wall and screaming "MUST HAVE! MUST HAVE!"
and really, why does EVERYONE hate the Verizon UI? I've played around with my non-vzw friends' phones, and I don't find the UIs to be particularly "innovative" or "creative." Not to mention the higher end Verizon phones (like my Chocolate) allow you to switch the theme (like the Jazz theme I'm using)
manorama @ Apr 7th 2007 6:25AM
The price without a new VZW contract is approx 349.99 (We don't remember exactly). It sucks that We bought our Razr V3Ms from VZW and had to hack them (We know nothing of hacking, just followed the directions on websites) to get our "Motorola handsets" to work with MOTOROLA PHONE TOOLS! On Motorola's website advertising MPT it has a disclaimer stating: Verizon Wireless customers contact your service provider before making this purchase, (because vzw changes a letter in your handset to make it so you HAVE to buy their software instead of mpt), due to provider request. Don't get me wrong, Verizon Wireless has great network coverage, or else why offer the Test Drive Option? Even overage calls are credited as long as you port to another carrier. PRETTY MUCH: this handset is badass, but the Moto RAZR MAXX Ve is scheduled for an April 24 release on Verizon Wireless.Makes me want to get one!! But I will hold my breath until the iPhone drops. Cingular, here I come (MAYBE!). good luck comraades, and don't get suckered into the New Every Two "DEAL" ok renew with us for 2 more years and get 50 to 100 dollars off your "upgrade" handset depending on your handset's calling plan price and the value that Verizon Wireless decides to place on you as a customer.
Millerrt @ May 16th 2007 3:56PM
The Moto Razr MAXX is cheap feeling, shows every fingerprint to ever touch it, and is not an improvement over the "old" Razr, at least not aesthetically. The VX8700 is a beutiful phone. The keypad takes some getting used to, and I still cannot figure out how to save my photos to the transflash, which was easy on my Moto v710. The bluetooth works flawlessly with my car's handsfree feature, actually it's a Garmin Nuvi 660. Same thing.
scruzer @ Apr 12th 2007 2:17PM
Just got mine 3 days ago, with a 2gb transflash card and the extended battery. Love it! Had a Treo 700P, and now I have just a phone, a nice little phone that hides in my pocket. Beats carrying around a giant bar of soap.
Maggie @ May 9th 2007 12:17AM
ITS NOT THE RAZR!!! Has anyone ehere ever owned a razr or any of the series at all??? They are the worst phones in the world. This might might look like a razr but it is sooooooo much better. I had the KRZR (new version of razr) and I paid tons of money for it and I ended up hating it because it was so SLOW. Like a 15 year old computer. It took about 1 minute, seriously, 1 MINUTE! to go into any menu or for any button to react. I had a nervous break down trying to make a phone call.
See that was the problem with the Razr, and they were supposedly supposed to changed it and fix it in the Krzr but they didn't at all.
LG has never had any problems with the button reactions. They are good phones, not like every motorola I have ever had had some sort of problem, if not the charging than the camera or it was slow.
So, this is a not motorola, though motorola had a nice design it messed up everything else in the phone. This LG is the whole oackage, nice design, and works well.
STOP BEING FOOLED BY MOTOROLA, THEY SELL DESIGN NOT QUALITY.
Devin @ Oct 8th 2007 8:28PM
DUDES TOTALLY RIGHT. FREAKING RETARDS HERE. MOTOROLA SUCKS ASS.
Coming from an owner of a v710 moto, a krzr, a rzr, and an owner from then on all LG phones, Vx8300, vx8600, vx8700 and the Env
Motorola is slow as a effin turtle...... SLOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
Keith @ May 28th 2007 10:51AM
Maggie said: "STOP BEING FOOLED BY MOTOROLA, THEY SELL DESIGN NOT QUALITY."
She is absolutely right. I routinely ask to borrow RAZRs from various friends, and the phones uniformly perform very poorly. I really don't know how people tolerate such a poor performing UI. All style, no substance. The last time Motorola released a great phone was the StarTac. How far they have fallen.
I just ordered a VX8700 and am eagerly awaiting a FedEx delivery (curse holiday weekends!). I currently have LG's VX8000, which is a bit of a brick, but has exceptional performance. I'd be thrilled if LG reused the electronics for the VX8700.
tom @ May 31st 2007 6:46PM
i love this phone i just bought it a week ago. the camera and resolution is insane, everyone i show it to wants it
Billy Hell @ Jul 1st 2007 2:57PM
LOVE MY 8700. I have had it for a week and it rocks. Feels solid, runs fast, sounds great and maybe better. It is a solid phone but also more. I missed my Navigator and the 8700 gave it back, I needed a phone a could use as a real modem and now I have one. It works great with BitPim and now I have every contact from my computer in my pocket. The menus are fast and the stock battery for me lasts 2.5 to 3 days. I just got the extended battery and should be able to go for days now. I have dropped it out of my truck twice and on the sidewalk once. These things make you want to cry but they will and are going to happen. It took the hits and still looks good. I have ordered the carbon fiber skins for it so next time I drop it I won't be so sad.
All this to say my past favorite phones were the Treo 650 and an old Samsung. This one has officially become my number favorite phone. Even with the iPod just coming out I still feel like I got the phone that is right for me.
...One more thing, the voice menus are great and and easy to use, now I just need to figure out how to use the voice memo.
Josh @ Aug 4th 2007 3:06PM
The 8600 I recieved broke too quickly and they offered to replace it with a 8700 bc they didnt have the 8600 in stock, and for no additional cost. Is it worth the switch? they look similar but the 8700 is an upgrade but doesnt have the touch sensitive buttons for viewing txts wout opening the screen and they said it cant send pic messages
michael @ Aug 18th 2007 9:45PM
Hey, look it is a better version of the razr. Good job LG
