Sirius teams up with Sonos for wireless multi-room audio
Satellite radio provider Sirius really is busy today, announcing a bunch of products, and also a collaboration with Sonos to deliver wireless multi-room streaming Sirius content via broadband. By updating to version 2.3 software, the Sonos hardware can directly connect to Sirius Internet Radio and stream throughout any of the 32 supported zones. Current Sonos owners can also get a 30-day trial to Sirius to try out the system, and decide whether compressed audio sounds better in the bathroom than it does from their computer speakers.

whats with all the Sirius articles lately?
Could be because Sirius is launching a bunch of products today... Unheard of, I know.
OMG! Please, no more news about shitty sirius please. thanks.
Y all the hate against Sirius?
People bitch to have good commerical free radio, here comes a company trying to release decent products. And yet people still bitch.
Sorry, jimmywash ... you've got it wrong. I thought satellite radio was a joke when it debuted, but I took a Sirius trial a few years ago and after just two days of listening I decided I could never go back to terrestrial radio. There's nothing sh*tty about it. Terrestrial radio can try to convince you it's too expensive, that the service cuts out, or that you're killing kittens every time you listen, but I'd rather spend $15/month to avoid all those damn commercials and get crystal clear reception with occasional hiccups than listen to 15 minutes of commercials and the same damn pop songs all day. Plus, I stream Sirius online at work, which makes my day a hell of a lot more pleasant.
Anyone who calls Sirius shitty has never tried it. I started out as an XM subscribe and switched to Sirius with Stern and have never looked back. Now, riding in or driving a car without it is torture.
Put down you ipods you Apple fan boys and realize that Sirius and satellite radio is the real deal. I have it in all 3 vehicles I own and its worth every penny.
I used to be an XM subscriber, but cancelled when they told me that I'd have to pay for 3 years of service in advance, in order to keep the current $9.99/month rate. There's certainly a decent amount of channels that I liked on XM, I assume it would be the same with Sirius. I don't think it's worth $10+/month though. If they follow through with offering their service a la carte, then it's definitely worth it if you can get most of the channels you want for a cheap price.
I tried XM once; it sounded like ass. Does Sirius sound any better?
That's all well and good, except I've been able to add my XM stations to my Sonos via broadband for over a year, and stream them all over my house without any fanfare!
Under "Favorite Stations" in the Sonos controller, choose "Add New", and then, for example, add in the Station Name field: "XM 008 80's", and then under the "Streaming URL:" field, put in:
http://www.xstreamxm.com/mobile/stream.asx?email={YOUR-EMAIL-FOR-YOUR-ACCOUNT}&pass={YOUR-PASSWORD}&chan=8&speed=high
or:
XM 071 - Watercolors - Smooth Jazz
and
http://www.xstreamxm.com/mobile/stream.asx?email={YOUR-EMAIL-FOR-YOUR-ACCOUNT}&pass={YOUR-PASSWORD}&chan=71&speed=high
or:
XM 116 - XM Kids
and
http://www.xstreamxm.com/mobile/stream.asx?email={YOUR-EMAIL-FOR-YOUR-ACCOUNT}&pass={YOUR-PASSWORD}&chan=116&speed=high
Set your own up yourself, and enjoy!
Looks like you have to subscribe to the "Premium" Sirius Internet Radio to use it with Sonos.
Yeah, but currently I have to have two subscriptions, one for my car and one for home. The second subscription costs me $6.95/month extra. Now I can cancel my second subscription and replace it with a $2.95/month high-quality streaming subscription.
Oh, and nobody talks about XM on Sonos because nobody listens to XM, duh.
