Video of the Vast memory card PS2 modchip working
We were skeptical of Vast's claims to have developed a PS2 modchip that works simply by plugging in a memory card when we first heard about it earlier this week, but the company sent MaxConsole a video of the chip in action and it looks pretty convincing. The demo PS2 first fails to boot a backup disc, but then the demonstrator inserts the Vast card and the disc starts right up. Impressive, but we're still a little wary, especially since the demo PS2 in the video is totally opened up. Let's see this on a fresh console straight from the box, shall we? Check the full video after the break.

I want this. =) looks better and you dont have to deal with soldering or swaping disks.
Any idea how much this thing is going to cost? I hope it doesn't cost more than a PS2 is worth. Maybe about $50 seems reasonable.
cool....I hope next up on this guys agenda is to do the same for the 360.
"Impressive, but we're still a little wary, especially since the demo PS2 in the video is totally opened up."
The whole point of the system being opened is to prove that a modchip is not attached to the motherboard. Even if they took a video of a system they just took out of the box, it's possible to pre-mod a system and put it back in the box. Having a video that shows the exposed motherboard is the best video proof they can offer.
hdadvance works fine for me...
The reason the PS2 is opened up is to prove there is no hard wired mod chip in there, and that it's been unmodified.
If this is genuine (and I believe it is), this is gonna be great =)
Does this allow retail import games to work?
If they really wanted to prove that there is no mod chip they should of inserted a burnt game in the ps2 without the memory card then showed us the ps2 red screen of death.
"The demo PS2 first fails to boot a backup disc, but then the demonstrator inserts the Vast card and the disc starts right up."
WDUK: I watched that video. They had the PS2 boot into the default BIOS menu, but they didn't try running one of the backup discs on it, so it's not possible to see if it did indeed get the "Red screen of death" on boot.
Still looks very interesting, though.
anyone notice the "Tubular Bells" sample in the Ice Cube track in the video?
lolol i noticed that too most people would likely recognize it as the creepy Excorcist song.
Awesome... me want some.... lol
Damn.. life is sweet
I think the song is by DJ Paul Oakenfold - Get Em Up
Any idea if this will allow us to connect an external harddrive via usb and boot game images off of the hard drive?
That's not the version off of Oakenfold's Bunkka album, so maybe it's Ice Cube's original? Or something? And also, to test this wonderful mod he uses a burned copy of The Mummy game??? That's not very awe-inspiring...
Cool. This looks exactly like the product that was out for PS1 that did the same thing (plus a gameshark app)
Oooh, I think I might be buying myself a PS2 soon enough. I'm only a... couple years late, at least. I've probably played all the games I wanted to, but for free... playing them again might be nice.
I can't wait to see how this ends up.
Does it work on the Slim version, would it make it region free? That would be nice if it did both of thoes.
It should. All this person did was put a custome loaded memory card in the card slot, and the card slots on the two versions of the PS2 are the same size so it should work. The real question is, "Will this work on the PS3 with the memory card adapter?"
freedom exploit, launcher.elf, cogswap. google the exploit, or knife trick. you can do this with a normal ps2 memory card and some sort of memory card management software, either an adapter that connects the memory card to your computer, or the game shark that supports a usb flash drive on the ps2.
The disc looked black underneath.
It is possible he's using diamond back CD's. The ones with the black bottoms. They're supposed to be more scratch resistant.
Say goodbye to mod chips
that's awesome, i want one.
I hope it's true... but they should:
1. Unplug EVERY cable from the tv from the beggining (i see one attached -maybe the tv signal one-)
2. Show the reading-side of the back up disc
(to prove isnt an original black one)
3. Placed the backup disc first to show the "red screen"
Forget the first one :P
ive check it out (it was the AC for the ps2)
sorry
If this is real, I'm all for it as long as it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. It's just a memory card with some software installed on it right? I'll pick one up as long as it's under $50.
This is most likely fake. I have seen nothing about this "Vast" other than this video that is "running" vast. The rest I've found is no more than forums or pages of comments like this one with people saying "WHEN IS IT BEING RELEASED??" We've been duped, I believe. Get a mod chip or use the swap trick or whatever else works. I've finally given up on a solution that doesn't use a modchip or the unscrewing of my ps2's case...gonna buy one pre-moddified so I don't fuck up my already owned system by pinching a wire or some shit....funny that I can play my dreamcast backups with out anything more than my un-touched dreamcast. PS2 is teh ownz!1!!
p.s.
dreamcast ended up being just as gay as these ps2 issues. Not being what most consider a "fanboy".
this cant be using the independace exploit because it does not need a trigger disc. they should have shown the backup going in normally. the only thing i have to say is it must either be real or it has some sort of modchip because it definately isnt using independance exploit.
