Check your pulse Apple fanatics, "the beat goes on"
September 5th... now just two days away. Unusual for Apple rumors,
this event has pretty much all the
analysts and so-called insiders in sync with their predictions. Mass disillusion or divine soothsaying, we don't know. Certainly everyone's been expecting this to be a
big quarter for product transitions. While we wait, we figured you might as well get up to speed on all the predictions for Wednesday's big show:
While not necessarily rumored for Wednesday, there's always a chance that we'll hear a bit more about Apple's automotive collaborations with
Volkswagen and
Jaguar. Just sayin's all.

Uhmm why have the roundup today and not a few hours before the event itself? I bet that this isn't the last 5th September rumor post you guys will be posting.
Bob @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:17AM
Engadget: number one at posting news when there is no news whatsoever.
a ham sandwich @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:22AM
no, we do this because this is an apple event, and MOST of the people reading this blog care about what will happen there. just cuz u dont care, doesnt mean WE dont.
Homeboy @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:28AM
a ham sandwich:
Idiot! Where in my post did I state that I don't care? I'm actually one of the people who will be buying a glorious iPod with a 3.5inch touch screen display and 60GB.
Engadget usually has these rounds up during the last 24 hours prior to an Apple Event.
Bob @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:41AM
@a ham sandwich:
People care when you post actual news and new rumors about the event. Not when you rehash stuff you've already posted.
But I'm sure you just couldn't -wait- to re-read old rumors.
Andrew Stone @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:19AM
What we really need is steve to make some grand sweeping comments about how well the iphone is doing (true or not), and then say "and to make it more enticing, we are releasing a REAL update today via iTunes" and include the following things...
Make the iPod stop crashing when i use safari.
Make it so i can use the wifi to stream songs to my airport, like i can with iTunes.
And about a hundred other things. Steve does this, i'm psyched. If he doesn't, i'm pissed cause it means they are working hard on devlopment of new products before they fix the ones they've already sold me.
BobbyW @ Sep 3rd 2007 1:07PM
Streaming to the Airport from an iPhone - that would be cool.
Geonerd @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:20AM
BLUETOOTH !!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!
ScOObyDoo @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:30AM
Yes please.
Xavier Gill @ Sep 3rd 2007 12:15PM
No chance! (That's what you've got)
nightmaremike99 @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:25AM
If the new ipod touch has wifi and a browser, I'm in!
Arvind @ Sep 3rd 2007 2:39PM
Wow...the number of people that think the ipod is going to be an iphone without the phone amazes me. If apple wants to keep their current price points (esp 249 for 30 gig) they can't afford to use the iphone touchscreen tech..they would kill their profit margins. Note that the phone part of the iphone is probably the cheapest to manufacture, because if you look at all the phones on the market, the phone capabilities of the iphone really aren't special. More likely is the possibility of a semi-touch iphone, like the patent they filed on the ipod with a touch sensitive frame : http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/06/10/26/special_report_apples_touch_sensitive_ipod_ambitions_disclosed_in_filing.html
gareth @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:25AM
Posibility of europe iPhone annoucement?
Ryan @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:25AM
I work for a big box retailer (one with a bullseye) and corporate has sent out advanced communication that we need to be prepared for this holiday seasons biggest product announcement and immediate shipment on Wednesday. They are very careful to say that it's "big" but do mention mention what it is.
humpty @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:26AM
Just in time for Back to School so people can get mugged and have to buy a new iPod.
a ham sandwich @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:31AM
wtf kinda comment was that?!
LiQuiD_FuSioN @ Sep 3rd 2007 12:59PM
wtf kind of reply is that?!
john easton @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:36AM
I hope it has wifi and the ability to stream music to my airport express and cd player :)
That would be fun :)
Gadget Chick @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:39AM
wi-fi and touch screen pleeeeease for the love of god.
Kevin @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:42AM
So I guess people finally gave up on that rumour that the wifi ipod was getting GPS to complement the iphone?
Clancy @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:55AM
I'm putting my bets on a silver/alumina ipod i dang hope those phatty's are a hoax they look like Sheet.i find it hard to see it having wifi/browser i reckon its just gunna be the ipod part of the iphone (with w/less usb **i'm joking**).
then again it is apple, i.e who far king noes what they'll do?
Heymbit @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:55AM
Also, another rumor not mentioned that seems likely is the iTunes Kiosks making the iPod the first MP3 player that is independent of computers.
TyBe @ Sep 3rd 2007 11:57AM
Please don't put flash memory in the new touchscreen ipod. I perfer a higher capacity harddrive one to replace my existing 80GB ipod rather than having to create stupid custom playlist like I have to on my iphone. Other than that touchscreen and wifi itunes support would be awesome.
Alex Cormier @ Sep 3rd 2007 12:00PM
Has everyone forgotten the Apple TV? It's like it's the bastard child of Apple's product line.
vendettabass @ Sep 3rd 2007 12:06PM
yeppp I wanna hear more about Apple TV
Ant @ Sep 3rd 2007 12:05PM
I’m so fed up of waiting for something that Father Christmas can actually afford this is the last chance for me. I can cope with a all bells and whistles iPod and I will wet my pants if the announcement is anything like the iPhone keynote. Yes, I will be driving everyone mad about it until I get one, then driving them mad with demonstrations, then friends stop calling for some reason.
I love the rumour thing, it makes up for the lack of good movie hype. It’s exciting this. I love new stuff. Lets not get greedy and be grateful that someone has the money to develop this stuff. I look at this time like Christmas Eve.
Nomi @ Sep 3rd 2007 12:22PM
Man I hate these posts. Now I think SJ is just gonna scrape the whole presentation and make something totally different, and then figure out how to make the products he announces afterwards.
Nomi @ Sep 3rd 2007 12:24PM
Oh...what time is it on EST?
pol @ Sep 3rd 2007 12:45PM
Well I got some juicy information from an Apple employee, and I can say some of the rumors are true.
You don't have to believe me, but the iPod type iPhone is a yes (the source had the chance to play with it) except Apple has some problems with the production line for the glass screens so don't expect any available units until one or two months. Apparently the new iPod will be demonstrated but just fro preorder. iPod Shuffle will be available now in four colours, fatty iPod Nano is real too, Beatles on iTunes is not a deal yet.
Trace The Hedgehog @ Sep 3rd 2007 6:45PM
pics or it never happened
Nanio @ Sep 3rd 2007 12:48PM
Madonna's new single is titled "The Beat Goes On" and features Pharrell Williams...humm, I wouldn't be suprised if it popped up during the presentation.
Geoffrey Sperl @ Sep 3rd 2007 1:14PM
That's a good observation, but my money is on the Beatles. See, "the beat goes on" was the last line of their final press release in 1970. So, sure, Madonna could be there (though she's already on iTunes), but I think it's more likely we're going to see the Beatles catalog.
Johan @ Sep 3rd 2007 12:49PM
The only reason, as I see, for Apple going into cars is to make something revolutionary; the iFlyCar. The first flying car, with of course, full iPhone compatability. The only problem though is that it doesn't run on diesel or normal petrol so Apple partners up with the arabians to make a new fuel which only will be in 10% of all gasstations in America... Sounds abit familiar...
Sammyp @ Sep 3rd 2007 12:57PM
Whats is so "BIG" about The Beatles on iTMS? Yeah, ok, so they were the best selling band of all time, but what makes this a big deal for the Apple and the iTMS? I would really love a good reason other that they are The Beatles. I don't know, maybe I don't see what the big deal is.
-SP
Geoffrey Sperl @ Sep 3rd 2007 1:18PM
The most popular act of all time? You need more than that? The fact that they still aren't on any of the services and any one of them getting them is a huge deal?
Perhaps you don't like the Beatles, but that doesn't negate the fact that anyone selling those tracks will need to hire more people to count the money as it rolls in...
Kentucky Wildcats! @ Sep 4th 2007 11:40PM
Who is waiting on iTunes to buy the Beatles? They have been around since the 60's. If you haven't figured out how to burn an mp3 by now, what are you doing in this forum?
Kal-El @ Sep 3rd 2007 1:19PM
The Beatles suck. I don't care what anyone else thinks, and you all can de-rank my post if you like. I just know SOMEWHERE, someone will agree with me. Like the guy above.
Sammyp @ Sep 3rd 2007 1:31PM
To each their own. The Beatles were just before my time. Maybe thats why I don't see this to be a big deal for Apple or anyone for that matter. Is their even a demo on iTunes that will purchase these albums/titles? I think this would be a great polling question. Me personally I won't.

Rockit99 @ Sep 3rd 2007 1:44PM
I'm not a Beatles fan but it has to be admitted they wrote some fine ditties otherwise they wouldn't have endured they way they have.
As someone else pointed out, having their back-catalogue on iTunes would be a MAJOR coup as no-one else has them. And it would REALLY p1ss off the other labels (goody!!!).
Phillip Black @ Sep 3rd 2007 1:25PM
Anyone think about the iphone nano?
Andrew M @ Sep 3rd 2007 1:40PM
I was wondering about that also. Wasn't it said somewhere that it would be out by Christmas? This event sounds like a good place for it to be announced.
Sammyp @ Sep 3rd 2007 1:40PM
I personally don't think we'll see anything on new on the iPhone until the expo in Paris. Maybe a "This is how many we sold" blurb but that's about it. But we'll defiantly see a new Nano, maybe a widescreen iPod.

boolean22 @ Sep 3rd 2007 1:44PM
I think the Beatles stuff is just for hip and coolness and won't do as much as getting bigger wallets for Apple. I think that if you really like the Beatles, you'd buy the albums, moron, instead of just downloading them in any low profile codec, like mp3.
The audiophiles know that there's no freaking comparison between CDs and compressed files.
I wouldn't buy them from iTunes if I wanted to hear them. Classics are to be owned, with boxes and booklets, not to be "dwnlded" just having meta-data to know what you'd have, had you bought the retail box.
boolean22 @ Sep 3rd 2007 1:46PM
Metadata can't replace the printed cardboard, mate.

adrian @ Sep 3rd 2007 2:14PM
iPhone, Ipod, Boot Camp, Apple selling music and video and now something else. That's all good for apple and their shareholders for now, But what has happend to the close knit community that apple once had or used to focus on. Don't get me wrong it's still there but it does'nt feel the same anymore now that apple has become bigger.
steve.stewart22 @ Sep 3rd 2007 5:26PM
That's just side effect (albeit one that sucks) of increasing public demand for Apple products. By making more products for the masses, Apple was bound to begin losing the tight-knit subculture Apple lovers used to enjoy.
Adrian @ Sep 6th 2007 2:53PM
@Steve.Stewart22
In many ways your right. But I think it's sad though. As for switching mass Windows users to OS X, I don't think that's going to happen with Boot Camp, Even with the problems with Vista, Windows users are too entrenched, Apple should rember that.
Spherehead @ Sep 3rd 2007 2:44PM
More capacity, 100Gb or higher or Jobs dies!!!
