One rumor ends, and another one begins: now that the
M1730 (pictured) is all out in the wild, rumors abound of a mid-range 15-inch M1530 to fit between the
M1330 and its bigger brother. The evidence? An error message on a Creative webcam, and a potentially mistyped AC adapter listing on a cheap battery retailer's site. Not very compelling, but we've seen reality borne out of less. Also on the radar is an A2010, probably to replace the M2010,
that 20-inch behemoth of a gaming laptop. Keep your eyes peeled.

This would be very cool if it pans out - I've always wondered why Dell seems to have left a big hole in the XPS Line, without a mid-range 15" machine for people who want more power than, say, an XPSm1330, but at least a somewhat portable 15" machine and not a big 17" behemoth. Would also be nice for people who want a 15" Dell but want better specs - I suspect that they would offer an 8600M GT in this with GDDR3 VRAM instead of DDR2, like the Inspiron 1520.

Dell hasn't had a 15" XPS notebook for a while now. People are forced to go with the tiny 13" or huge 17".
My guess? It'll be an Inspiron 1520 with better hardware, as that's what the 15" XPS models have historically been.
But then again, Dell might give it a totally new design in an attempt to differentiate the XPS models from everything else. Either way, I'm excited to see what it'll be.

I have just started looking into the laptop market and have been having quite a bit of trouble finding a 15" laptop that compares to the MacBook Pro. As i have recently been working as a technician of a Mac Pro/G5 array i have discovered that OSX is not as great as i thought it would be and am really shying away from getting a MBP ( i just plan on throwing XP or Vista on it ASAP and keeping it that way ) switching to OSX would require that i buy 2 copies of all of my software (one for desktop and one for laptop) and that is just outrageous.
The biggest problem is that the m1330 just isn't big enough for me, as screen size is extremely useful when editing photographs. A 15" XPS that isnt a giant brick and looks as good as the m1330 or better would be great. I really dont understand why there isnt an XPS in the range, as it seems 15" is about standard for a laptop.

Check asus computers :) I ordered my G1 from btotech.com, it has a 15" screen! LG's are pretty nice as well...

Asus computers all look slightly bulky in the pictures i have seen of them. It would be interesting to here what you think about one once you have it.

You should wait for Leopard to come out. I have been playing around on the dev releases from our school's IT department and it is a joy to use. It really makes perfect use of all the power in a new Mac, and I think it is a lot more compelling than 10.4. I like the promise of the true 64 bit performance too. So I'd wait and see how that grabs you before turning to Windows forever.

Have you taken a look at Sony Vaios?
They're pretty top-notch, and comparable to MBP's.
I understand how you feel too, I don't see OS X Tiger as much of a use to me. I only use it for a few OS X-only programs.
I find myself using Vista on my Sony Vaio laptop more. It works great, and I've had no problems with it. Vaios are an awesome brand. It's too bad though that it's one of the least well-known. Unfortunately, PC consumers tend to go towards cheap, discover problems (usually the hardware specs, not Windows), and instantly think Macs are the answer. Sigh.
I really suggest a Vaio. They're a great alternative to MBP's.

I've had it for a while, and I don't think it's bulky in the least...but then again I came from a 17" Dell, so I'm probably the most reliable source...haha...
I did love my Dell though, took one hell of a beating and kept ticking, my step mother is using it now...but I needed something faster, and the XPS I was looking at was the m1210...and well...let's put it this way, for that price I got my Asus and a 37" Sharp LCD TV :) haha
There should be reviews on Cnet.com with profile pics and such? I know the Best Buy by my house used to have a demo of the Asus I have, didn't see it last time I was there though...
Good luck in your search :)

Oooh, ahhh. What could be more interesting than DELL rumors?!? What a waist of precious web space.
I bet DELL wishes people were actually interested in what it was coming out with. The last big peice of interesting information that the media picked up on was that it had negotiated with Microsoft to let it's begging consumers go back to buying Windows XP instead of Vista.
RespresentsYou @ Oct 7th 2007 5:04PM
Yeah, I hate it when blogs "WAIST" precious web space. Instead of buying a Mac, you should have saved some money to buy a clue.
Erik @ Oct 7th 2007 5:05PM
I guess it's not *that* big of a "waist" of all the precious web space if you felt the need to comment on it. Some people are actually interested in a higher-end 15" laptop being released. If you aren't, there's no reason you can't just skip the article all together.
On a side note, why did you caps lock all of Dell each time you wrote it? Are you talking about stocks or something?
The General Majority @ Oct 7th 2007 6:05PM
In reply to RespresentsYou:
Who brought up the Mac? I didn't. I just said DELL "rumors" are a waste of web space.
I guess it made you automatically think about the other side of the coin for Apple, since the media typically loves anything to say about Apple, good or bad. But I'm not sure why that made you think that I was a Mac user.
In reply to Erik:
I type DELL in all caps just because I thought that's how they liked it. I would have added a crooked "E" if the comment's format would have let me.
Paul @ Oct 7th 2007 6:37PM
In order for me to take you seriously, you would have to post this comment on every Apple, HP, Acer, and alienware post that Engadget has made.
As it is, you just come off as a sour grapes kinda guy who saw his precious interweb tubes being blocked up by Dell posts.
