Video walkthrough of Windows Mobile 6.1
Man, that goofy Moto Q9 over Boy Genius Report is just the gift that keeps on giving -- now we've got a five and a half minute video walkthrough of WinMo 6.1, showing off all the new features, including long-awaited threaded text messaging and new "Vista" theme, which looks pretty slick in action. No sense in talking about it when the whole vid is waiting after the break, get to it!

I'd like to see the Windows Mobile Pro version.
Maestro @ Dec 7th 2007 11:43PM
I really hope this is available as an 'upgrade'. I just bought an ATT Tilt and would love to have this running on it.

Well... honestly... can't really say I'm all that impressed... I mean I guess the Media-Center-like home screen is ok, but there have been dozens of phones with a similar up/down-side-to-side ui... then IE is as slow as ugly as it always has been (maybe Opera would work better?)...
So meh... Not to sound like another fanboy, but lets be perfectly honest here - usability wise, WM phones are still decades behind iPhone's UI... Note* when I say 'usability' I mean being able to pick up the phone, easily and quickly browse the web, check your email, dial a phone number etc... NOT the ability to view Excel/Powerpoint files...
So again, not trying to sound like a hater or a fanboy, but its the same ol' Windows Mobile as it has been for the last decade - just shinier.

I started out loving WM on my Dash. That love has sadly turned to hate. It gets slower and slower every day. I have even started getting the "We're sorry, an error has occurred, please send an error report to Microsoft" messages.
I don't want upgrades unless that means quicker access to all my applications and no more crashes.
Duscrom @ Dec 8th 2007 2:59AM
I started at WinMo6, and went to iPhone, and recently back again. I hated having a $300 dumb smart phone. Sure, it does things pretty.. Great Front end, scrolly thing.. and multi-media capabilities. But... if i need to set multiple emails to read.. or sync with my email clients... or Connection tethering.. or IRC, IM, MMS.. and so on. The iPhone fails at all of that. And that soft Keyboard is terrible.
The iPhone is pretty, and that's what matters... But it's As perfect as WinMo is. I'm happy with my new Shadow, and can't wait to get his on there.

You all need to clean your caches and free some memory to regain your device's speed
Dave @ Dec 8th 2007 7:37AM
@Richard.
Dash's can't recover speed they didn't have in the first place.
STILL NO CLOSE APPLICATION BUTTON..
I'm taking a picture of a friend.. now I'm done.. can I just push exit or should I go. homescreen, start. task manager. select camera. kill task. are you sure. yes. closed.
6 steps maybe 10-12 button presses to close an app. sooo ms.
Ladderless @ Dec 8th 2007 8:53AM
@Dave:
If the close application button was such a big deal for you, then why didn't you look for a solution?
Google "Magic Button Pocket PC" and check out the free utility that will make your life complete.
cashmonee @ Dec 8th 2007 12:41PM
I think the point they are trying to make is that you should not have to go find something like HTC X button. Phones should not give you a crash send report message. Phones should not require YOU to manage the memory, they should be able to.
WM is a desktop OS squeezed onto a mobile platform. Why the hell does a phone have a registry??? Why does a phone have a start menu??? If MS wants to make WM truly usable they need to make a real mobile OS.
bob sakamano @ Dec 7th 2007 11:47PM
what a fun movie to watch for my friday night!
Ajousa @ Dec 7th 2007 11:52PM
Look's old! Microsoft needs to reinvented the windows mobile - start from zero and create something like Iphone inferface or Google Android...again, Microsoft suc...s
JTM @ Dec 8th 2007 12:10AM
I really think there's a market out there for Android. There are people out there (like me) who have tried them all and keep finding disappointment. My requirements aren't that high. I want a slim phone, (dash like even) with qwerty, that runs a quick OS with support for all my applications (or clones thereof).
HTC makes some great hardware. It's the OS that's so far underimpressed.
Ashraf @ Dec 8th 2007 12:04AM
1:14 it says AT&T
1:15 it says Cigular.
not Cingular.
wtf
Michael LaFramboise @ Dec 8th 2007 12:09AM
haha! :D - also if you notice in the tray area on the top, it switches from EDGE to 3G :p - thats pretty damn impressive - being able to switch networks/carriers on the fly :p
melloncollie @ Dec 8th 2007 1:06AM
AT&T is Cingular.
Tiffany @ Dec 8th 2007 1:32AM
if they are in a building like the one i work in, the towers outside are 3g but the repeaters inside are not. if that's the case, they have a very shaky 3g signal and the phone will occasionally lock on to the stronger, non-3g signal.
hi-tech @ Dec 8th 2007 1:57AM
no no no... AT&T is Edge... Cingular is 3G.... :D
Poor phone is confused...
Guess they shoulda kept the Cingular name..... faster network
Angus Hedger @ Dec 8th 2007 12:23AM
I like the look of this, the WM6 today screen kinda sucks imo.
I just hope.. that its a general Wm6 update.. something MS just puts out rather than something the carriers have to approve, and even if it inst the XDA developers people will get it going.
After all my phone is running WM6 when they never even provided an update to WM 5 =/
But yes, im hyped about this, cant wait!
David L. @ Dec 8th 2007 1:44AM

I want to know how long it will take to boot up.
my WM smart phone take forever, if they inproved that then I will consider upgrading.
Steve @ Dec 8th 2007 11:01AM
Sold my Dash to get an Iphone and unlocked that bad boy. WM is the slowest UI EVER!!!
paloooz @ Dec 8th 2007 5:30PM
What a nightmare. Glad I have my iPhone.
BustaCap @ Dec 8th 2007 6:13PM
So very many key-presses for so very little accomplished.
Wwhat @ Dec 9th 2007 8:45AM
Worst music for a video ever award.
And in the running for worst music in general
Greg Farley @ Dec 9th 2007 3:12PM
Did anyone else notice how it said "Cigular Wireless" on the home screen?
