Evergreen unveils DN-MRC200T external TV tuner / media recorder
We can't say we're really feeling that design, but Evergreen's DN-MRC200T makes up for it with a good bit of functionality. This device not only features an area for a 2.5-inch hard drive of your choice along with Memory Stick Pro / SD / MMC flash card access, but it also includes a built-in TV tuner (analog, regrettably) to handle the capture, storage and transport of programming without any outside assistance. Granted, it seems a bit late to be bringing a product out without a digital tuner built-in, but hey, maybe that's why it's "only" ¥19,999 ($176).

How do even make a device like this without a digital TV tuner?
BTW, I think engadget should have a "RATE THIS DEVICE" button next to the product they showcase. I really like the new page design here.

A rate this device would be kind of neat.
Yeah Evergreen, thanks for the TV tuner...not!

So true.

Not bad considering you won't need to pay a monthly subscription like TiVo.

No glaring corporate logo? Wha???

And illegal too!
If it has an analog tuner, it MUST have a digital one to be imported or manufactured in the US. So don't look for this to come to the states as is. Olevia got hit with a big FCC fine for trying to ship new analogs to the us. Also why Sony and others are now selling VCR/DVD combos without any tuner at all.

Illegally imported for illegal mexicans maybe? :)

I remember another device like this. Although it relied on memory cards exclusively it could record at settings that required no conversion for your PSP or iPod.

the product with no hdd is the Neuros Recorder: http://www.neurostechnology.com/recorder-2-series and it's typically $99 or less
