The last time
Smartparts hit us with CES-related photo frame PR, we pretty much told the company to
stop wasting everyone's time and either go big or go home -- and it looks like they decided to go big, because this year we're being treated to the world's biggest digital photo frame, the 32-inch SP3200. The 16:9 frame sports a 1366x768 resolution and Smartpart's OptiPix tech, but until we hear some pricing info we're not going to be convinced that frame sizes haven't hit the point of diminishing returns. Smartparts also says it'll be rolling out the SP8PRT frame with built-in photo printer, but it's not giving up any other details just yet -- but we'll get it out of 'em in Vegas, just you wait.

Anyone think 32 inches of digital photo frame is too much?
Bad Beaver @ Jan 3rd 2008 6:16AM
No, nobody.
I bet there's a lot of people thinking "I'm not wasting money on a resolution like that" though. Seriously, 1366x768 at 32"!? I would not use a 20" screen at that res.

I do!

I do so too.

This is fail. I know its acceptable for LCD Televisions to be 32 inches large and have resolutions as low as 1366*768, but this is a photo-frame. Its meant to hold a photograph(s) to be enjoyed, looked at...thus they need resolution. This does not have a high resolution at all. Again, on an LCD TV its a non issue as its viewed from distance where the human eye does the hard work, but I'd get relatively close to a 32" photo. And see the flaw.
And a high resolution 32" panel would be rather expensive to use as a photoframe, so I'm afraid in my eyes, this has failed rather hard. It's just a crappy 32" LCDTV with a printer duct taped on the side.

a 32" photo frame? So they've made a Television that sucks?
x20mar @ Jan 3rd 2008 6:54AM
Ah so I see I'm not the only one who thinks that a 32'' LCD photo frame is just a LCD TV with a memory card reader
Meridimus @ Jan 3rd 2008 7:44AM
This is the worst idea ever. The only way it could ever be justified is if it were ridiculously power efficient, plus, like some other guy said the resolution is terrible for photo viewing.

Call me crazy, but at that size you wouldn't necessarily display your photos, but high resolution art by famous artists. It used to be that whenever you saw the future depicted on TV or a movie they'd do that. It's a cool idea, but probably not worth paying what they will be asking for it.

Next thing you know, someone will invent a 32" photoframe with a built in computer. OMGWTF.
