AMD's LIVE! Ultra branding is so SUPER DUPER! Awesome
In a superlative heave of marketing masturbation, AMD just announced their "AMD LIVE! Ultra" brand. Having learned nothing from Intel's Viiv debacle, AMD will soon stuff systems powered by AMD's Spider and Puma platforms optimized for HD video playback into the extended AMD LIVE! brand. That includes machines packing AMD's quad-core or dual-core tech with ATI Radeon HD graphics, AMD chipsets, and a pre-load of AMD's LIVE! Explorer media viewer and browsing application (pictured above). The brands will infect our AMD desktops starting the first half of 2008 -- laptops in the 2nd half. See, that didn't take 1,162 words now did it AMD?

Poor old AMD I used to love them but like the fickle consumer I am Intel are the kings right now so my rig is with them

Same here. It's a shame, really. :( Intel needed some serious competition though.

I hate it when hardware companies pack in all this extra junk with their drivers, all they do is take up recourses.

The screen shot looks shiny. I expect the software is all flash, no substance.

Just took this for a spin (On my Intel powered machine, of course), and I'm really unimpressed. The 3d view for photos/videos is neat, but not the best done I've seen, and hardly the newest idea either. And Peter, you're right, it's really not that good in terms of usability. Windows Media Player kind of does a better job combined with Vista's folder views...
But it's a nice try.

Intel ripoff!!! Wait. It's not a Chinese product, so it cannot be a ripoff.

It's black and looks somewhat transparent. Since Apple invented black and the corresponding look there will probably be a "cease and desist" on this new technology, pending legal review. Total i(something) ripoff!

This is so unnecessary AMD...

"marketing masturbation" make me laugh. Lol.

"Ultra branding"? Is that what Engadget has done with "Mahalo Daily's Veronica Belmont" recently?

"In a superlative heave of marketing masturbation. . ." Wow, that's a great new line!! You deserve some kind of award or something.
