Christie introduces LX500 professional projector
Not even a month after Christie doled out its drool-worthy HD405, the firm is adding one more member to its LX family. The "portable" LX500 reportedly weighs in at around 18 pounds and features 5,000 ANSI lumens, 8-bit video processing, an XGA resolution, 1,000:1 contrast ratio and DVI / 5xBNC / VGA / S-Video / composite inputs. Furthermore, the unit can be purchased sans a standard lens, enabling installers to "select the right lens for their specific installation." No word on a price at the moment, but if it's anything like the company's other offerings, we'll surmise that it'll end up being entirely too pricey for what you get.

Honestly what's the market for these things?

I'm in charge of a distance learning program at an allied health school where we do synchronous audio/video streaming to an off site campus. In our main clasroom, we have two of the Christie LX55's to display various sources. We paid about 6k each for our projectors and I'm about to outfit two more rooms for a similar setup. I could see purchasing these. The total hardware price of our existing room was right at 100k, which included 4 42" Samsung LCD's, video encoders, PTT mics, auto panning/zooming camera's, and a whole slew of other stuff. I'd have to say that I, and other's like me, are the market for this kind of projector.

Yeah... I work for a Corporate AV provider and we use stuff like this. It's meetings, conferences, conventions crap like that that require stuff like this. but honestly this is small potatoes. Barco R12 is the way to go. Christie projos are good, but Barco is my favorite. Even that 1080p christie projo is baby. Check this monster out... 24 inches x 24 inches 10,000 lumens off of a 120volt. Unheard of!

Check out the pic and the specs and compare it to the Sanyo PLC-XT25. It's the same pic and projector, all the way down to the specs.

It's more than just the same as the Sanyo PLC-XT25... it *IS* the Sanyo PLC-XT25. Christie doesn't OEM their "low end" projectors... they rebrand the Sanyo. Granted, they put them through quality checks to make sure they meet Christie tolerances and then extend the warranty, but under the hood, it's all Sanyo, baby.
