PacketVideo brings Mobile TV to any WiFi device
PacketVideo has a new receiver which can pump mobile TV over good ol' WiFi. PV claims the device will ultimately ship before the year is out in versions supporting over-the-air DVB-H and MediaFLO broadcasting as well as TDtv and WiMAX streaming. Although it's presumably compatible with any WiFi device, they specifically cite support for the iPhone, N-Series Nokias and HTC devices while demonstrating the device with an iPod touch at Mobile World Congress. The 6.4 x 1.8 x 4-cm block is powered by a lithium-ion battery of unspecified capabilities. Although it's not stated, we assume the received television can be shared with multiple devices over that wireless link -- else why bother with WiFi?

What about DVB-T for Europe?
But nice idea, and probably even better when every developer get their hands on the SDK (for the iPhone)
JohnTitor @ Feb 18th 2008 4:04AM
it better be cheaper than a Slingbox

I wonder if it can act as a WiMAX data router if you just want your PDA (nokia n810, for example) to have a net feed, instead of a tv feed...

I got mobile tv for free with media center and webguide4. all channels, all da time.
Twitchy @ Feb 18th 2008 2:54PM
Chances are that you Media Centre is nowhere near as portable as this device - unless you've managed to squeeze it into a matchbox (note: the measurements are in cm, not inches).
OneLove @ Feb 20th 2008 5:14PM
It doesnt have to be portable. it sits at home connected to the internet and I can access tv streams on my sprint mogul.

Does this finally mean TV for the Nokia N800? I've been messing with getting mythtv to work on it for way too long.

I'm not sure I completly understand this product, maybe someone can explain. You carry this with you? and when it receives a signal it conects via wifi or whatever to your iphone? Or it sits on your tv attached to your cablebox/ tivo like a tivo? I dont get it
Cross_ @ Feb 19th 2008 2:48PM
It's a DVB receiver/MP4 encoder/webserver. You carry it with you in your pocket, and connect your wifi phone to it. Received DVB-H channels are then transcoded and displayed on your phone.
