Oakley's Split Thumps: Jamiroquai style
Oakley's Split Thump MP3 player sunglasses' fashion offenses are too numerous to mention, and we're not sure this is helping matters. According to the folks over at Tech Digest, the wrap-around music players will be getting a very special 500-piece, 1GB Jamiroquai edition, replete with purple and white camouflage design and two new remixes from the disco-aping singer's 1993 album Emergency on Planet Earth. Grab your glasses, get out your floppy hat, slip on some Mickey Mouse gloves, and crack open a bottle of Vicks VapoRub -- it's time to party like you don't know any better.

Excellent Jamiroquai reference. I'm a huge Jamiroqual fan. Too bad he is not that well-known in the US. They make some great tunes.

Love me some Jamiroquai. Glad to see them back and making albums again.
Grant @ Feb 25th 2008 11:19AM
oakleys are far too expensive to buy if they don't look great, and frankly none of the sunglass/mp3 player combos have looked acceptable for anyone but pro extreme sporters.

Jamiroquai is a band--not a singer.
Their lead singer's name is Jason "Jay" Kay. Can't blame you too much since its a common misconception; but one that shouldn't be perpetuated.

Yeah, I know that Jamiroquai is a band, and Jason is the lead singer. I just was typing in a hurry. I have almost every cd ever put out, including a ton of promos, remixes, imports outside the US. They are coming out with a new album hopefully by this fall.

Always good to meet another fan, then. :)

They've been making albums since the early 90s. Their music is everywhere in commercials and movies in the US. Most people just don't know who it is though.

Nothing like a lil Disco, Jazzy, Stevie wonder mesh music.
Dan @ Feb 25th 2008 1:45PM
Jamiroquai has nothing to do with Rave. Completely different genre and scene!
murray @ Feb 25th 2008 2:11PM
You'd have to be virtually insane to wear these.
kigamoosh @ Feb 25th 2008 3:05PM
Hah! Good one. I'm just wondering when we can get our hands on the remixes without having to spring for the Oakley shades.

I don't know why engadget has such a hard time wrapping their thick skulls around this concept. Maybe their too busy sticking their brown noses up the arse of Steve Jobs.
I've checked the Splithump's out at the Oakley store down the street from me and they are a pretty amazing piece of engineering. They look like normal sunglasses. The speakers pop out and you can just wear them like you would any normal sunglass. If you want music you just pop in the speakers. Simple. Elegant. Nobody knows. What's not to like?
