Disney / Thinkway Toys' Ultimate WALL-E robot cleans up on camera
Alright, so maybe the recently announced Ultimate WALL-E robot doesn't actually get down and dirty on video, but he does maintain a pretty positive attitude after being poked, prodded and generally invaded for a full five minutes. The latest collaborative effort from Disney and Thinkway Toys was spotted recently at Maker Faire, and if you're interested to see what exactly $190 will net you later this summer, head on past the break and click play.

He's gonna talk, right? There's no sounds from the thing, which is kind of, IMO, necessary for it to "come alive."
because all things living in this world speak with eloquence.
@ Clinton: Ever seen a Disney movie?
If you listen to the video, you can hear the robot DOES make noises. The audio is low to begin with, and the sales guy is wearing a lav mic, so ambient noises hardly register.
The character in the movie is essentially incapable of speech, speaking in R2D2-esque beeps, purrs, etc.
It's like someone lopped off Jonny 5's head and stuck it on a deformed tonka truck - disturbing/fascinating, a bit like Sid off of Toy Story's fantasy bot...
Agreed, it's just a deformed Johnny 5.
Well, for sure I am going to buy one!
Hells yeah! Me, too.
Anyone else find Wall-E kinda of reminiscent of BOB, the little robot of "The Black Hole" who spoke with the voice of Slim Pickens ?
... a Slim Pickens voiced robot ... ahhhh
Read in Slim Pickins' voice:
"We're the BEST..."
Will it blend...my drinks for me? I want a robot butler.
There's something odd about creating a consumer toy modeled on a robot whose job is to clean up after consumerism destroys the Earth.
Irony.
For $190, I can take my kids to Disney World. I'll pass no matter how cool it is.
"generally invaded for a full five minutes"
...umm, what exactly do you mean by that guys?
This sucker needs to be modded to kingdom come. a few ideas:
-Gamecube (i think that's been done though)
-eee PC
-Mac mini (or G4 Cube) with dual external iSight cameras
-Wii
-The first artificial video liveblogger
-A weapons-grade lazer, Garmin GPS System, lock-pick, and road-ready tread (To stalk every person who has ever asked if a post-2007 product "plays doom")
-Whatever Ben Heck feels like
It needs a camera. I want a $1,000 super-ultimate version!
So really $190 doesn't get you anything accept a personal companion cube with a head, arms, and tracks. I'll be more interested when they come out with a version that can actually pick something up.
"More input, Stephanie"
So basically it's an Aibo, but lamer ? And a derivate product of a movie.
Roomba should have made it.
I didn't get to watch the vid cuz my laptop sucks... but the impression i get from the comments is that it sucks. This disapoints me, there was so much potential here.
For the life of me I could not find any mention of it in the video, just a bunch of grungy folks plugging stuff that most people would not be interested in. Did I miss something?
