Geek Wheels scooter: so many distractions, you're bound to crash
Not like we haven't seen capable nerds, um, nerd-ify their scooters before, but one of the geekiest forms of transportation just got even geekier. The imaginatively named Geek Wheels scooter possesses more hardware than you can imagine, with a ginormous rear-mounted antenna, Garmin GPS unit, WiFi module, OTA TV tuner / FM tuner, high-resolution webcam, full-fledged Linux-based computer and an 8-inch touch panel to boot. The most amazing part? The creators have promised to provide regular updates and a how-to guide in short order. Make sure you invest in a high-quality helmet, alright?

Anybody caught driving something like this deserves some serious prison time. Distracted driving EQUALS drunk driving.
Dream vehicle for Paparazzi LOL.
Dream vehicle for Paparazzi LOL..
1. Track down the celebrity w/ a GPS
2. Take the picture with camera
3. Upload the picture via WiFi
4. Laptop for blogging.
You call this "distractions causing a crash"
I call this, Natrual Selection removing the lesser desireable humans from the gene pool before they are allowed to get rich enough to attract women to allow them to be able to breed.
Lesser humans can get laid even without money, you know.
No fat chicks.
Unfortunately "removing the lesser desireable humans" via crashing isn't a good thing, as it can involve innocent participants.
Think!
Distracted driving is nowhere near as dangerous as drunk driving. And just because you have all that crap on your scooter doesn't mean you'll be looking at it while you're going. Most riders are responsible.
well if you crash in the middle of nowhere, archaeologicts will dig you up and think there used to be an electronics store there
This sh*t will get stolen so quickly, it will look like you never even had it.
Nice hardware, with the exception of the Yamaha Vino. The electronics might be worth more than that particular scooter.
Agreed. The electronics are worth more than the Vino. Why would you outfit a 50cc Vino like that? It can't go anywhere too far. It can't go on the highway.
To the editors:
Who will have the last laugh when gas is $6/gallon and YOU go out scooter shopping?
My Suzuki Burgman is hardly "geeky", but it is cool.
Do your homework and get your head out of the 1980's. Scooter times have changed! The most recent, the Gilera (Piaggio) SP800 has an 850cc V-Twin engine! Does that sound "geeky" to you??
that gear will last about 30 seconds after someone parks that thing
Exactly what I was thinking...
Sincerely, if I saw one parked, the first think I'd think is "steal it!"
sorry, playing doom while driving is not recommended
Stolen? Please!!! I'm sure it comes with a force field
I am wondering why the displays aren't mounted under some kind of hood so it would be at least a little more weather-proof and a little less likely to be yoinked by anyone that walked by it when parked.
Yawn... pointless
With all that computing power and its built-in DAP, I can see myself 'tooling' down the road on this thng, rockin' out to AC/DC's "Highway to Dell"...
the next new game: Grand Theft Scooter, the Revenge of the Nerds
I actually don't see anything wrong with this.
look at some car's or SUV's these days, they have GPS, MP3 players connections, two or more TV's, DVD Players, Some have XBox or Playstation, mobile phones, and you can find some ppl eating or shaving or putting on makup all in a car.
now that dangerous.
on the scooter your view is much better.
No one else sees the cover of the Who's "Quadrophenia"?
I think you'd be in a lot less danger of crashing due to distractions than of being beaten up and having your lunch money stolen. Unless that thing packs an oil slick and a smoke screen as well.
This is not a scooter...
This is high-tech natural selection
I prefer the vespa mod from September.

Its all enclosed and the pieces can't get ripped. And actually is NOT intended to be used WHILE driving unless of course to entertain those that you may be passing on the highway. :)
That is some serious professional floodlighting for some crappy pictures!
Just because some drivers in cars and SUVs are obsessed with gadgetry distractions while driving does not make it ok, does not mean it is safe, and certainly doesn't mean the practice should be perpetuated and extended to drivers of 2-wheeled vehicles. Safe operation of any motor vehicle requires your absolute undivided attention to the road and to everything going on around you. Anything less and you are putting your life and the lives of everyone else on the road at risk. Anyone who thinks differently needs a refresher course in Driver's Ed.
