Dell's 3008WFP is available again, technical issues resolved
For those of you waiting with bated breath for Dell's gargantuan 3008WFP 30-inch LCD to return from technical-issue-town, your prayers have been answered. The monster display is back on the company's virtual shelves, presumably with that "small technical issue" wiped out of existence. So go for it people; that larger-than-life game of Crysis won't wait forever.[Thanks, Mert]

I didn't know 20 inches was gargantuan.
:D

Thanks for the helpful input. I'm glad you took the time out to let us know our writing wasn't up to its usual standards. Much obliged.

For monitors, no. For manhood, yes.

The article was corrected however they didn't strikethrough the original incorrect information and add in the new information making his comment seem out of place.
Bad form on the writers part.

Don't you mean 3008WFP 30-inch LCD

"So go for it people; that larger-than-life game of Crysis won't wait forever."
oh, the irony of that statement ;)
wake me up when GT200 successor GeForce 11 and 6GHz octal cores are available and then we'll see about the wait.

Hey thanks for being so helpful. I really appreciate you letting us know we had a typo in this post.
Deaner @ May 13th 2008 3:22PM
I feel dirty for saying this, and becoming what I dislike.
There is still an error. 'Bated breath' is not proper; try using 'abated breath.'
fashionista @ May 13th 2008 3:42PM
Deaner,
"bated breath" is a very common idiom. So... you suck.

You realize by saying the same thing with sarcasm three times in defense of your post is not the right way to handle this? Right? Right?

I think if you look through older posts, you will find Josh doesn't accept critics warmly.
muddyh2o @ May 13th 2008 4:06PM
i'm not criticizing his writing.
any author worth his salt knows that i'm criticizing the editorial review process on the site.
he would have every right to feel threatened if i nit picked his use of metaphor or the overall style.
i merely pointed out a typo. which is now gone.

Wow, Josh is a dick. Someone should take away his freedom of speech. And SPAF him. Because he deserves it.

SGAg07 @ May 13th 2008 2:48PM
No information on what this "small technical issue" actually was?
Syphon Filter @ May 13th 2008 2:55PM
Indeed, would be good to know what the issue actually was. I did hear something about it not scaling certain resolutions properly but that was pretty much all I heard against it. That and the lack of PIP (only PBP), but I highly doubt that has been fixed.
Ryan @ May 13th 2008 3:26PM
I have one of the original ones, so knowing if I need to complain about a problem to get a replacement would be nice...
SGAg07 @ May 13th 2008 3:36PM
@ Syphon Filter
Seems like issues like you mentioned could simply be worked out by a new revision...I dont think those problems really warrant stopping production?
phisquare @ May 13th 2008 4:37PM
Let me inform you what the 'small technical issue' is with the Dell 3008WFP. I own one and I have had an absolute fucking nightmare dealing with the piece of shit company that is Dell in resolving my defective monitor problem. This monitor bleeds light out of the top and corners. The seal between the panel and the back lighting is awful. When displaying a solid black picture the screen is a myriad of shades and is not one solid color. Watching a wide screen movie? Yeah, you'll see all kinds of light bleeding out of the top of the monitor. For $2000 it's just unacceptable. Dell is lying when they say they have fixed the 'small technical issue' because I have had three replacement monitors and they all have had the exact same issue and in some cases even worse (I received my latest replacement just a week ago). Michael Dell, I'm coming for you and your children if you don't give me a mother fucking proper monitor.
waiownsyou @ May 13th 2008 2:50PM
Lay off the 20-inch typo. At least there wasn't some bad biased opinion talking about how it sucks.
Armada @ May 13th 2008 2:55PM
Why - because its not Apple? *chuckles in a corner*
In all seriousness what ever happened to that killer Alienware Screen from CES?
And if you're looking for a biased opinion go to Gamestop.com :D
Todd in Sonoma @ May 13th 2008 2:53PM
I would be happy with a 20" monitor...
...on my tablet PC!
Ed @ May 13th 2008 3:45PM
Hope you'll be happy with the back surgery that carrying it will require.
Mert @ May 13th 2008 3:04PM
Although it is in the list to purchase, it says "Usually ships 3+ Weeks".. So I think they are tempting us to buy one from the new shipment :)
I've been keeping my eye on this thing since beginning of this year and unless it hits that $1499 mark, it won't happen for me. Those damn 3007 version for some reason can't be liquidated fast enough apparently.
TRLK @ May 13th 2008 3:06PM
Is there a machine that can run crysis at 2560x1600?
Joe @ May 13th 2008 3:11PM
I thought Dell's screens were cheaper than Apple's. This one is $250 more than the 30" ACD.
Steve A. @ May 13th 2008 3:59PM
FYI - Dell's 3007 WFP-HC monitor is currently $600 less than Apple's 30-inch Cinema HD. The both the Dell models have the same resolution with a faster response times, and higher contrasts. The '08 model has a brushed aluminum bezel, stand and a display port connection, plus increased contrasts and response. For $800 more over the 'lesser' model though, no way.
Joe @ May 13th 2008 4:18PM
Ah, so it is. I didn't scroll down far enough to see that Dell has two 30" displays.
But which one would a person want? Check out the side-by-side comparison. Does this make anybody else's head explode? Pick metric or US measurements!

social.rich @ May 13th 2008 3:20PM
hey is the "3+ weeks" lead time on the Dell site for this beast also a TYPO??!?!?
GenBanks @ May 13th 2008 3:19PM
What's up with all the sarcastic responses to people that pointed out / joked about the typos?
On a different note, I doubt anyone has a computer capable of playing Crysis at 2560x1600 resolution lol
This is good news though, I have been wanting a 30" monitor for ages. Anyone know if it's still suffering from input lag problems or was only the one issue fixed?
Joe @ May 13th 2008 3:23PM
I know the Apple Cinema Display doesn't have lag problems (I'm using one right now) and as I noted above, it's $250 cheaper. And while I can't attest to the quality of the Dell display, Apple's is fantastic.
I know there's a common rage about buying nothing made by Apple, but $250 is $250 and you glue a nickel over the Apple logo.
dM @ May 13th 2008 4:52PM
The reason the ADC doesn't have input lag is because it doesn't have any inputs. Aside from DVI. The ADC at this point is years older in spec's than the 3007wfp-hc which has a larger color gamut, better contrast, and better response. That's the 3007 not even the 3008 which is all around better technologically. I'm a huge mac fan but i'm not going to deny that the ADC needs a very much needed tech update.
vinegar @ May 14th 2008 9:08AM
the ACD doesn't have lag because it doesn't have a scaler, nor does the 3007WFP-HC.
Johan S @ May 13th 2008 3:23PM
Umm the grey to grey response time is 8 ms, that's not good enough for me to play Crysis on. Why don't they make a 2 ms response time version? I have a 22 inch (or around that) from Dell that has 2ms response time.

ReductiMat @ May 13th 2008 3:46PM
I played Crysis on my 3007WFP-HC just fine, thankyouverymuch.
Played maxed with shaders set one from the top. Had to bump it even lower for a few areas (like end game), but otherwise it ran just fine.
There is zero lag on my monitor.
hp540 @ May 13th 2008 6:04PM
you tool.
enjoy gaming on your crap 22" TN LCD
EasySt @ May 13th 2008 7:20PM
I have had one of these for a couple months now, and it's just been fantastic. All inputs, including my PS3 are automatically upscaled to 2560x1600 in real time, I detect no input lag or light leakages, and the included 8 speaker bar gives great sound.
I'm a happy customer.
