Sony introduces diminutive Walkman NWD-E020F
If that Swarovski crystal-clad E010 was a bit too rich for your blood, why not take a gander at said unit's successor? The recently introduced NWD-E020F series sports that well-known USB stick style, and as you can tell, you can customize yours in (almost) any color you choose thanks to the bundled (and changeable) Style-Up panels. By juicing this one all the way up -- which takes just an hour, by the way -- users can expect a respectable 28 hours of continuous playback; as for file compatibility, the E020 will play nice with MP3, WMA, AAC and LPCM formats. Get yours here (as in, the US of A) sometime soon for $69 (1GB) / $79 (2GB).

Soooo.... what?

Too bad it doesn't play ATRAC. I know many of you hate it, but personally don't think it was all that bad.

What? No cerulean? I'm outraged.

Hmmm...I wouldn't mind picking one of these up. My old Samsung 512MB player is getting beat and I really don't need anything expensive.

Refurbed iPod Shuffle 1GB....$39.

Anyone else think they look like a bunch of pregnancy testers? They are putting mp3 players in everything these days!

I believe I have just handed you your ticket aboard the fail train.

Why is only $10 more for twice the storage space?
FatDrunkAndStupid @ May 23rd 2008 8:17PM
Because if it were more than $10, most people would just buy the lower capacity one. I was in that exact situation when buying Sony's slightly bigger Walkman. The 4GB was $25 more than the 2GB, so I just got the 2GB. For people that store their music library on their laptops and just want to use the MP3 player for music, the difference in memory is really irrelevant.

What I'd love to see in this price range (or slightly higher) is removable flash & removable battery (a la MiniDisc walkmans). Sony have the drag n drop thing in the bag (yay!), they have lossless LinearPCM (WAV, etc) in the bag...
Better codec choices wouldn't hurt either, like the royalty-free FLAC. But I'll limit my wishes to just those two if I could.

That way people could put in whatever size Flash they desire (and replace batteries easily on long trips) in a really small form-factor (and not have to dispose of the product once the internal Flash dies or battery reaches 500 charges because a replacement just isn't worth it). We are in environmental hype times, right? Do something to back that up...
Sony? Are you listening? Really miss the original Walkman concepts of replaceable battery and media (tapes....flash media these days).
Perhaps you can do something about that. Stringer? Anyone? Are you listening? These two are the single reasons I'm not interested in any of your current Walkman products (or the bulk of your competitors). Oddly the PSP has both in the bag here, but the size just ain't small...).
Ta luvs.

I might have to seriously think about this, as 90% of my collection is in AAC, (from the late, great Allofmp3), and this is one of the few players that supports it. My 1g nano lasts about an hour on a charge, and am really utterly unenthusiastic about the current iPods (except the Touch, but really not feeling the price/GB on that one).

Where's the card slot?

Who's Sony?

Will somebody tell me where I can get one of these things?!?
