Samsung's S2 Pebble DAP now available for $40
Just look at that little morsel of digital audio playing goodness. How could you not want something like that in your front pocket? Samsung's 1GB S2 DAP has indeed arrived right on schedule, and it's available now for those completely okay with releasing $39.99. It's the green glow that does it, isn't it?

You seemed to praise this little guy more than the Philips player with a screen this morning.
cuz it's way cheaper. this will be my thing for jogging.
heh... was just wondering myself what makes this a "morsel of digital audio playing goodness" and the Philips player "yawn-inducing"...
sometimes this site is so weird.
This device is more interesting because it actually has somewhat of a unique architecture and look. A square box with a screen is nothing new. You cannot deny that if you put the two next to eachother, this one is much more aesthetically appealing.
Because obviously, the point of listening to music is to look aesthetically appealing.
Low Ranked is High Ranked.
What is this world coming to?
What will be next? Blockbuster merging with Circuit City?
But it's still all a matter of opinion, Natels. I liked the screen on the Phillips. This one is definitely more unique though. But I really didn't see the reason for the "yawn" comment on the Phillips.
BTW, the Samsung S3 is coming too, but when? That's the one I'd like to try!
I know what you are thinking, but the Pebble and I are not related.
hahaha thanks for clearing up the confusion!
hahahahaha... not funy.
*funny
Dear Engadget,
Please bring back lowest ranked for people like deyanimay.
Sincerely,
Low Ranked
That thing looks huge!!! I wouldn't want that in my poc....wait... that must be enlarged to show lack of detail...
can we get a scale image please?
A scale image would be pretty hard to do, since everyone's got different size monitors and resolution settings...
But it would be nice to put it next to a quarter or something for reference.
For me personally, I have no need for a device without a screen. I have too much music and need to visually search.
I assume you deleted my last post because it wasn't relevant to this player, but rather a question about what makes this a morsel of goodness, and the other device yawn-inducing... So, to comment about this player: I think the price seems very good for a name brand player, but you can get cheaper players for a lot less... unless you dig little green lights. Then i'd go with this one.
oh, my bad, you didn't delete it, the comments were just acting screwy. Apologies!
Looks like an oblong bowling ball
with out forced perspective
I was thinking more on the lines of the Bom-oms from the Mario Bros. universe.
>Just look at that little morsel of digital audio playing goodness.
why do people talk like that?
It would be cool if the headphone jack extended from the center of this device at an angle bringing it close to being parallel to the body (and, of course, protruding enough to accept the majority of headphone connections).
Of course, this would be to the detriment of the aesthetics to some extent, but it would solve the awkwardness of having such a small device with comparatively large peripheral connectors attached to it while providing some additional protection to the connection.
Meh, then again, this is probably why I don't design these for a living...
Green glow is fantabulous.
Oooh.. a third ball for my pocket pinball games!
I will give them credit for keeping it low priced. Which is probably needed since round objects tend to get dropped more than square ones (inarguable fact!).
Now YOU can take home a piece of the GLOWING RADICAL ROCK!
Mo!
Not before conquering the Aggro Crag.
Once players like this hit the 20$ price range, Expect them to start handing out MP3 players out when you sign up for credit cards.
I suspect this player will hit that price range fast (who sells for mrsp?), drop the ram to half a gig, and suddenly it'll be worth signing up for credit cards you'll never stand a chance of getting.
why mp3? when they're already handing out eee pcs in canada
ok, i get the low price, but Amazon says this thing weighs in at 6.4 oz. That's 30% heavier than my iPhone! can that be right? A 6+ oz player with no screen? I'm hoping that's a typo, but I don't know. I had a Samsung Yepp and switched to iPod for more $$, but also more storage and less weight.
I don't see anything that makes this better than the Sansa clip, which is in the same price range, and has a screen.
But at least it has a standard USB connector (so does the Sansa) instead of some proprietary, stupid one.
do not want
How big is it again?
In the US, it's the size of a Japanese car. In Japan, it's the size of a US quarter.
wait, it doesnt have a screen?
Hmmm... round, green glow...
Any relation to Happy Fun Ball?
HEY I GOT THIS TODAY IT ROCKS BETTER THAN THE IPOD SHUFFLE VERY SIMPLE AND THE SOUND QUALITY IS AMAZING THE HEADPHONES ARE LANYARD SO ITS PERFECT FOR JOGGING VERY NICE USB ADAPTER JUST PERFECT FOR THE PRICE
I agree that to-scale picture would be nice to see the size. Also, does this gadget have a screen, or is it more like the design of the Shuffle?
