hopefully sony follows suit so i can buy a ps3 to play MGS4 and stick it next to my xbox 360!

If only Microsoft could go the Apple route and give early adopters (at least those who paid $349) some type of reimbursement.
Thats a great idea. I would not mind sending microsoft some information on my purchase and get a rebate check or something. That would be nice but I doubt it will happen.
Why? It's been nearly a year since the $349 price point was initiated. iPhone's original price only lasted a couple months.
Why would they do that. They've had that model out for years so why would you consider yourself early adopters. Do you think you should be reimbursed every time somethings price drops.

That makes no sense. Price drops occur to move sales, yeah, but it's helped by the falling price of production and components.
Apple reimbursed early adopters because it was a dick-ass move to drop the price after only a couple of months. Meaning, they probably could've afforded to sell the iPhone at the lower price to begin with. Production costs don't fall that much in two months and I doubt they were selling at a loss when they did.

Real men are judged by the size of their hard drive, and neither of those systems will do.
My bet it that they use the lower price to clear out, and then they upgrade the hdd on the base model (currently 20GB) to 40GB or 60GB. At the same $299 price. It positions them to compete somewhat with PS3 hardware which is currently a MUCH better deal and fits better with their plan of delivering digital content through the xbox.

Its not a better deal if you're buying it to play games.
The PS3 may have some sophisticated hardware in it, but being an owner of both, I definitely feel like the 360 was a bargain while I feel a bit ripped off with the PS3.
I have definitely gotten my $400 worth of enjoyment out of the 360 many times over, whereas I'm still waiting for something to make my $500 PS3 purchase seem justified.
I'm ok with my Xbox 360 Elite.

Yes but i thought that if the price drops may be around the world, that means it's cheaper to pick up a new 360 considering the spate of suicidal 360's. Although I've had two 360's and none of them have broken.

i saw an xbox premium at 299.99 over at sharper image at the mall, but that's only because of the store was closing for good
i saw one at buy.com for $199.99 but thats only because it was refurbished.
I would say this is a much needed price drop.
I've heard from someone I would deem a reliable source that all of the 360s will be dropping by $50 before or at E3. So I guess the Pro gets the drop before the other consoles...

This is a similar price as the $50 rebates places like BB, Target, Amazon were doing the last couple of weeks when you bought XBOX + GTA IV. Same price actually except it came with strings attached (cash > gift card, required GTA IV purchase)

If all 360s drop by $50, then the Arcade will actually be cheaper than the Wii. That has to be compelling to someone.
Well, good for Microsoft. Since Sony's losing so much money, why not just drop the price of the PS3 to $299 - the quantity purchased will make up for the price drop, plus they'll have A LOT of blu-ray players in people's homes, which will sell more TVs.... oh wait, I need to buy gas. Maybe not.
Yes! By then I'll have plenty of money and if this is true, it makes the purchase much easier.
Though I'll probably end up waiting for a model where the new mobo and smaller chips, which will be quieter and have better reliability.

Considering how old the hardware is, think it would be a perfect time to drop it to $250, which is the mainstream price for consoles. Too bad microsoft says they spend about $80 just on the hard drive... yeah right...
For $299 I'd hit that.
I'd be sold at $250, but I still feel like $300 is too much considering how long the system has been out. (Not to mention the Wii's price point...)

It's my birthday on July 6 :) .. but I live in Europe, damn.
Good think I waited to get an HDMI model, only a few more weeks and hopefully I can get a core for under 250. I already have a 2+ year old pro with a 120GB drive. Get a cooler running HDMI capable core 360 on the cheap and slap my 120GB on that, good stuff.
There may also be some additional true to this in the price given for used 360s. I was shopping around the different stores that buy back hardware and 360s for trade in credit ranged from $90 to $135 now which is a bit of a drop off from what they were giving a few months back. Cheaper new consoles would mean less given for used ones.
I'm hoping the arcade drops to $199. I can buy it as a replacement for my broken 360 Pro instead of paying $99 to fix the old hardware. The $100 difference would be worth it to add HDMI, a controller, a memory card, some Arcade games I can eBay, and hopefully a somewhat quieter (and more reliable) console.
Well it didn't happen today. So is it on the 13th?
I really can't wait any longer for this to happen. Do they really think it somehow needs to be held until E3? I'm ready to pick one up the day it drops...why would they let this buzz die down? Announce it today, and drop it tomorrow. You can't top the speculation and press it has received without any of their own advertising. They're just giving me more time to wonder if I want MGS4 and Blu-Ray instead...
