Eee 1000H now in stock at Newegg
Another day, another Eee PC available for sale. This time it's the Atom-based, hard drive-toting 10-inch Eee PC 1000H, now in stock at Newegg and patiently awaiting your $649. Sure, you could buy a real laptop for that, but then you wouldn't be part of the least exclusive, most quickly diluted brand imaginable, would you?

Time until Asus brings out a full range of 7"-17" EEE branded Centrino 2 based laptops?... probably less then a week...
ShadowKain @ Jul 16th 2008 8:17AM
Very true, I'm extremly sick of ASUS milking this brand, what's next? 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, adn 17 inch versions? Give me a break. It was a great product and still is for the moment with the atom based 901 I think is the model. When the 7 inch came out people were saying "oh I can pack it in my small duffel bag etc." Now people will see and Eee and say, " Hey man, looks like any other small size laptop." Its losing its uniqueness IMHO...
zmnatz @ Jul 15th 2008 7:03PM
Does anyone else see this as a bit out of the price range and scope of netbooks. Seriously, you can get a legitimate small laptop for this same price that actually performs well.
Spyvie @ Jul 15th 2008 7:14PM
$640 is exactly what I paid for a 14" Gateway\Turion 64 X2, 2G, 250G, with a DVD burner and a web cam. Just a few months ago...
tsurugi @ Jul 15th 2008 7:26PM
Indeed, Though I personally lost interest in the eee when they never made the $199 model (widely) available. "The $199 laptop, yours now for only $299.99" Yay! After that I'm not really surprised about that it turned out like this in the long run :(
Russ @ Jul 18th 2008 12:11AM
yes u can pay less for a "fully fledged" celeron laptop - with an EEE you are paying for the form factor. some people actually want a little laptop they can take on the bus/train..
remember the Libretto (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toshiba_Libretto) - that cost A LOT more than a normal laptop.
Katrina @ Jul 25th 2008 11:23AM
People don't seem to realize this machine offers a 7.5 hour battery life..
retro77 @ Jul 15th 2008 7:07PM
Oh man, I can't wait to get me some of that "fine ebony"!!!
Erik @ Jul 15th 2008 7:09PM
I'm sorry for wasting space but what is eee?
Thanks in advance for the answer :)

These will sell out *SO* fast! LOL
BigD145 @ Jul 15th 2008 7:20PM
These are getting too expensive. Try fulfilling the original intent of these little laptops. Namely, $200 price tag.
modnaR @ Jul 15th 2008 7:21PM
Asus is losing touch with what EEE is about. Where are the decent $200 laptops?

Ok, Im no 'Fanboi' but Asus really SHOULD take a leaf from Apple's marketing notebook. Asus have a great product here, but this confusing naming scheme will surely confuse the average joe in the high street. Apple's is so very simple! with catchy terms like 'mini' and 'nano.' People like names NOT numbers!!
Could Asus not have come up with something imaginative like:
MinEEE
MidEEE
MaxEEE
There's still time...
l.caelestis+spam @ Jul 15th 2008 7:48PM
iAgree, I like names that correspond to the product.
Eli @ Jul 15th 2008 7:49PM
While the simplified product line idea is good, I have to say that your names are terrible. I'd rather have an Eee 901 than a MidEee.
Though, now that you mention it, maybe that's what Asus will call their audio workstation computer. You know it's gonna happen.
bot @ Jul 15th 2008 8:08PM
Confusing indeed. There's no logic to it at all. The Eee 700 had a 7" screen, the 900 and 901 have 9" screens, the 1000 and 1000H have 10" screens. And also, what is up with that H? Is that supposed to mean harddrive? Don't even get me started on 4G, 12G, 20G, 40G and all that rubbish. Those couldn't possibly mean GB could they? Gah, I'm confused. Apple, come rescue me with limiting my choices. : D
jason @ Jul 15th 2008 8:09PM
isnt maxeee a tampon?
lukas88 @ Jul 15th 2008 8:15PM
They should also come out with a larger size tablet version and call it the MaxEEE Pad.
notYou @ Jul 15th 2008 10:05PM
And the one we've all been waiting for (@ $199, FTW!)
SimplEEE.
everything since then has just been MessEEE.
Wolfticket @ Jul 15th 2008 8:03PM
Man, 1.45kg.
My old school (last Christmas?!) eee is under a kg. I'd rather have a wee screen.
BTW: People directly comparing the specs of netbooks and budget laptops like they are the same thing annoys me almost as much as people comparing e-ink with lcd displays.
Mischa Lockton @ Jul 15th 2008 8:20PM
Do they pay you pimp fees?
Fred @ Jul 15th 2008 8:52PM
Come on Asus, I can get a 10 inch from LG for just about 2000USD!
Shame on you!

andrea @ Jul 15th 2008 8:59PM
OMG..
I'm so tired of people complaining at the prices..
if its too expansive to you, buy the cheaper version..
they never lost the Point of EEE, I mean the 7" version is still out there, isn't it~?
its not like they stop the production of that..u can still get it...
now the newer versions coming out are merely for those who's looking for something more than just a ultraportable laptop..~
for those who wants to do more with it..
better specs means more expansive, Duh~~
no one's forcing you to buy it
and stop the craps about there're too many versions..
when does having too many choices become a problem..~
sure it takes time for u to find the one you want, but its better for you to compromise on specs that doesn't quite fit you..
Ignatius @ Jul 15th 2008 9:46PM
The point of the Eee PC was that it was supposed to stay at nearly the same price with new features coming out every once in awhile for upgraded versions.
This is OVER THREE TIMES THE ORIGINAL PRICE. And what do you get? Windows XP, some more RAM, a slightly bigger screen and more hard drive space. Oh, and a newer proc.
This is not worth THREE TIMES the bloody price.
ilh @ Jul 16th 2008 4:09AM
The original concept/philosphy/whatever you want to call it was and still is easy to work, learn and play. Just because the first model they made was the smallest and cheapest, doesn't mean that's what the eee is and can only be. So what if they're filling in the gaps from the original eee to full size laptops, you can still get the original (which has dropped in price).
I for 1 am glad for the "quickly diluted brand", I have a 701, but i'm looking for a bit more...I have that choice now and I don't see "real laptops" coming in at the eee dimensions. I wonder how many of you complaining about the diluted brand were also the 1s saying the screen size/screen resolution/storage capacity/whatever else of the 701 wasn't enough.
You have 3 options:
Normal laptop, relatively cheap, big with mid-high processing power
Subnotebook, high cost, small, with mid-high processing power
Netbook, cheap-relatively cheap, really small-small with low processing power
You have options in normal laptop and subnotebook categories, Asus has provided all the options in the netbook category.
Saying the eee can't be more than the original 7"er is like saying Sony can't make more than their 26" TVs (pretty sure their TV range has more options than the eee range).
Harrison @ Jul 16th 2008 12:06AM
YAY! With any luck I'll soon sleep in an EEE bed wearing EEE pajamas and EEE glasses typing posts on a...
Macbook. XD
God, I love irony.
andrea @ Jul 16th 2008 12:08AM
3 times the Value??
O Come ON man..
So they said the Concept was to build a 199 computer..
But the reality is not that simple OK~..
Why don't you look at all those Concept cars~..
are the actually mass produced car exactly like that??
Its easy for u to say that the price shouldn't change and the spec should improve.~
the technology is not there yet to produce high specs stuff for the same price..
get some sense..
Stop hanging on the 199 price...its not that easy.~
U don't believe it? GO Build one youself and see how much it costs..
afterall Asus Started this amazing Subnotebook market..~
give them some credit..
stop complaining all day.....
DustinC @ Jul 16th 2008 12:39AM
all of you are forgetting that the price is in USD, which has been tanking in its value as of lately. Everything here in the US costs more, why the surprise that laptops aren't immune?
ncmach1 @ Jul 16th 2008 6:23AM
High price? Just wait a month and they will put out a $100 rebate like they have for the 900. Bastards.
I think they are getting nervous with all of the competition coming available.
Want to see the Dell E.
Ingersoll @ Jul 21st 2008 3:17PM
Apparently we only needed to wait 6 days for the $100 price cut on this one.
matt @ Jul 16th 2008 10:00AM
In other parts of the world, the UK for example, £300-400 is considered to be 'ultra budget'. The EEE fits in perfectly, you cannot get conventional small notebooks for the money.
