Samsung gets official with LED-backlit 9 Series LCD HDTVs
Can't say we're surprised to see 'em, but Sammy has done its due diligence by pumping out the official verbiage for the 9 Series LCD HDTVs that were leaked late last week. These second-generation LED-backlit sets feature 1080p Ultra Clear panels, Auto Motion Plus 120Hz technology, 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratios, the familiar Touch of Color design and a smattering of networking technologies like InfoLink (RSS access) and WiseLink Pro. Additionally, both the 46-inch LN46A950 (pictured) and 55-inch LN55A950 feature 4-millisecond response times, down-firing speakers with a built-in subbie, an integrated NTSC / ATSC / ClearQAM tuner, four HDMI-CEC ports, a PC input, Ethernet socket and a pair of component jacks. Look for each to land next month for $3,199.99 and $4,199.99, respectively.

Totally Awesome!
I doubt I can fit the 55inch in my studio apartment though ;)
Long time no giveaway Engadget... :)
I'm with you on that one. Watching night of the living dead on this thing would be awesome!
Sammy keeps pushing out the greatness. Now to decide between this 46in model and the LN46A650 model.
Any chance they may make these in 22in size?
they can read your mind!

You mother fuckers! I just bought a 52" 7-series for the bedroom from my distributor today! I'm a dealer and no one mentioned anything to us about a 9 series on the horizon!
Haha, didn't see your post til I posted mine (below). I guess I'll just have to tell the wife our 52" is obsolete and we need to move that to the bedroom and get this for the living room. Haha
I've had my 52a750 on back order with no real delivery date. They sold out in NY and NJ
These look great. I look forward to LED-backlit TVs in the low end of the price range.
Agreed. WTB 46" LED-LCD screen for under 2k!
That is a thing of beauty.
So elegant.
Can't wait for the actual pics.
Aaaaand that's why I hate technology... I just bought my 52" LCD TV 2 months ago... =( Sucks to be me, haha.
I was looking for this three days ago!!! 120hz with LED backlight... Great! I wonder if the 2nd gen looks that much better than the first. The first are really cheap now.
WooHoo, I have been holding off cuz a friend told me to wait for the LED backlit ToCs (he honestly had no idea they would be out this soon), but I'm glad I waited anyway. Slightly out of my price range, but hell someone will be selling them for $500 under the MSRP within a month or two anyway, and that is in my price range!
AAAHHH HAHAHAHAHAHAHa
Come to Papi!
If I could take a TV out for dinner, take it home and hold it tightly next to a roaring fire and whisper sweet nothings into its ear, it would be this TV.
And you could hook up your "lappy 386" to it and check "the email, the email, what, what the email. Awww, what the crap."
This is what I've been waiting for. Take that Sony. I'm sure if Sony was to have similar model it would cost twice as much.
sony announced the XBR8 and other new XBR series lcds a while back,
XBR8 has a TRI COLOR LED backlight called "Triluminos " which is supposed to be far superior to anything on the market.

"... [[[supposed]]] to be far superior ..."
Why no 52"? The 46 is too small, and the 55" will be too pricy!
Is it safe to buy this or will next year bring a 60"? Gotta love technology.
These are really beautiful! Eff that touch of color bullshit.
Best buy already has some of these in stock and on display. if not these exact models then a samsung with LED back lighting and the 1,000,000 contrast ratio.
Check the model number...
Here the differences between the models. The ones you saw at BB were the old ones.
http://www.john-michaeldelvalle.com/2008/07/25/samsung-2008-lcd-comparison-chart/
This one has 2160 LEDs instead of the 1152 of the F96 models. No RGB-LEDs, still white.
Engadget reviewers and Samsung press people should release power consumption numbers too. I don't want a TV that uses 180W or 230W. How about half that?
The Specs, picture quality and price on this thing won't come close to Panasonic's latest HDTV. http://www.viera.co.nz/plasma/th-50py800.html
