Keepin' it real fake, part CXLII: Sony Ericsson's T700 gets a twin (sans Ericsson)
We've always wondered when we'd see a KIRF that was actually more desirable than the original, and while this ripped T700 isn't quite as succulent at SE's own T700, it's closer than most... on the outside. This touchscreen-based cellphone (which is obviously masquerading as a camera) supposedly sports a Carl Zeiss lens, a 5x optical zoom (seriously?), 8-megapixel sensor, a microSD slot and easily one of the nastiest user interfaces we've ever had the displeasure of laying eyes on. Hit the read link if you're into that type of sick stuff , and jump on past the break for a front side shot.

Hang on, I see call and hang up keys, so this is a phone too, right?
Mehul @ Oct 1st 2008 2:43PM
it's Sony, not Sony Ericsson
SE does not make cameras and the read link shows a camera, not a phone. What's going on man?
kjb434 @ Oct 1st 2008 2:49PM
If you read through and even just looking at the pictures, this is a phone also.
It's kind of like a super device. It just needs a better OS.
chickenator @ Oct 1st 2008 2:50PM
it's a phone. look at the call buttons.

"It's kind of like a super device. It just needs a better OS."
Except its internal design lacks even a rudimentary replication of the CyberShot it's trying to ape. You can see from the main pic above that it's got nothing more than a crappy cell phone camera behind that slider. It doesn't look "super" at anything.
caloge @ Oct 1st 2008 2:49PM
I think it is a phone. And i want one. What is this thing actually called?
caloge @ Oct 1st 2008 2:51PM
I see its called the sony t700. But sony doesnt actually make it? I am clearly out to lunch
chickenator @ Oct 1st 2008 2:51PM
it's a phone. again.
Jamma @ Oct 1st 2008 2:52PM
There is a Sony T700 CAMERA as well http://crave.cnet.co.uk/digitalcameras/0,39029429,49298483,00.htm
alexq @ Oct 1st 2008 2:52PM
.. I'm not convinced the lens is capable of optical zoom - it looks like a fixed lens from a cheap web-cam. There seems to be some confusion as to the number of pixels indication on the casing - is it 5 or 8 mega-pixels?
caloge @ Oct 1st 2008 2:57PM
lol the mobile mentalism article ousts this phone for having a .3 megapixel camera. Nice I cant wait
giyad @ Oct 1st 2008 3:02PM
"a 5x optical zoom (seriously?)"
u seem shocked... the T100 has 5x optical zoom
angel9401 @ Oct 1st 2008 3:27PM
hey ahh my korean is not up to par. can anyone tell me what that page says?
GON @ Oct 1st 2008 3:39PM
"On the side of the phone it proudly says "8.0 megapixels", while the sticker on the back claims it's just 5 megapixels. Worse, closer inspection reveals it's actually just a VGA camera - just 0.3 megapixels!
Well who said a fake phone couldn't have a fake spec as well?!"
That was just too funny.
JSWinston @ Oct 1st 2008 4:35PM
It is a Sony phone for Japan.
Christian @ Oct 1st 2008 7:04PM
So wait, they updated a Sony Camera and placed a Sony Ericsson firmware so you can call too?
greenlight @ Oct 1st 2008 7:31PM
Haha I'd recognize that OS anywhere, it's the good old CECT OS, as seen on such fantastic products such as the iFOE and the Nokir N95
Jeff @ Oct 1st 2008 8:15PM

noyp @ Oct 2nd 2008 8:18AM
I want to know what they mean by "Touch your dream."
Chrisboff @ Oct 2nd 2008 4:35PM
Obiously, being the hell of a convergance device it is, it records your dreams and thus enables you to poke at them using the highly intuitive new oneirology interface they have developed.
cjmagowan @ Oct 3rd 2008 12:04AM
