Vodafone demonstration video shows you how to use the BlackBerry Storm
Not that you really needed any additional instructions on how to operate the BlackBerry Storm, but just in case you're a little slow on the uptake (or just want to be ultra-prepared come launch day), you'll certainly want to direct your attention to the video after the break. Yeah, it's a Vodafone Storm, so those looking for the typical Verizon garb will be a tad disoriented at first, but we're sure it'll be of assistance in the long run. Run along and study, kids -- release day is, um, soon... ish.

Will this thing come out already so I can get it!
Testies, Testies, 1, 2... 3? @ Oct 15th 2008 12:54PM
I will have no greater satisfaction than to port my iPhone 3G number to this phone! Goodbye and Good riddance!
razor9000 @ Oct 15th 2008 8:46AM
UI could use some work; lack of hardware acceleration sometimes noticable - still bb touchscreen is def worth trying.
a ham sandwich @ Oct 15th 2008 10:12AM
i definitely agree. wonder how much they can optimize its speed between now and launch. definitely looking forward to it tho.
Testies, Testies, 1, 2... 3? @ Oct 15th 2008 12:57PM
My main hangup will be getting used to all the measurements being in metric...
sithlord 24 @ Oct 15th 2008 8:47AM
it looks like there is a small delay on certian things. when it turned to the side it takes a sec for the keyboard to show. umm for all this time it took for this to come out, it seems to me that all of that should be running smooth
Metal Geario 360 @ Oct 15th 2008 9:54AM
I think you just have an iphone stuck in your head (as alot of us do, including myself, so everything that involves similar tech, you automatically compare it)..
Slight delay in keyboard pop up IMO is trivial.
Saad Rabia @ Oct 15th 2008 8:58AM
I don't mind the delay so much but what's up with the hard-push touching? What is this screen?
Scythe @ Oct 15th 2008 9:02AM
The screen itself is on a button. That way you get tactile feedback (which a lot of business users prefer).
I want to try before I buy, but based off the video it looks like a great phone.
bob @ Oct 15th 2008 9:06AM
the touch screen looks awful, say what you like about apple, the iphone / touch screen is the most responsive and intelligent plus being a loverly capacitive and multitouch, no-one else is close to it yet.
AlekZander @ Oct 15th 2008 9:20AM
Ugh, I agree. The UI is fine, but that screen looks awful to use.
iEye @ Oct 15th 2008 9:07AM
They forgot to show us how to use it as a door-stop... Drop on floor, kick into corner, wedge door open...
Wow, talk about virtual keyboard lag, at least edit the video to hide the fact that it is not as smooth as the iPhone... BB is all about the keboard and they did not even get that right... probably underpowered... a shame...
Tejas Patel @ Oct 15th 2008 9:15AM
Yeah ..i own an iphone...and the iphone can deffinitly slow down to lag worst than the storm. I see that you're trying to write like an engadget writer there in the first line..and to be honest...you dont make the cut.
Fed @ Oct 15th 2008 9:11AM
Yeah I'm going to have to bite the bullet and buy one too. I hate my BB8830. My biggest gripe is you dont get a full qwerty keyboard when holding the phone vertically (portrait mode)...that is the only 1up the iphone/ipod has. Then again typing in landscape mode is so much easier.
People complain about the lag when switching modes or programs ect...
News flash EVERY smart phone has lag. I've used, Mogul, Treo (windows and palm), iphone, hell even my ipod touch. They all lag from time to time. Who cares.
Jash Sayani @ Oct 15th 2008 9:28AM
Videos are not that necessary... The UI is pretty good and things are self-explanatory.... And only people who use Advanced services are going to use the phone, not people who dont know how to operate basic functions....
TareX @ Oct 15th 2008 9:59AM
I don't like the OS.... I like the clickable screen though.
vdogg89 @ Oct 15th 2008 10:26AM
I would have to say I'm not terribly impressed with the processor. It seemed to lag a lot. The music function looked just awful. I do wanna try it out though. Very excited
PEZ @ Oct 15th 2008 11:24AM
I really wish the engadgets of the world would consolodate their commenting system so, if the story originated on Engadget Mobile, the story on here would link to that particular site and story. After all, its 2008 - See: GAWKER for advice.
Jubei @ Oct 15th 2008 11:33AM
Thank you for posting this video. The video shows how clunky the device is during operation. The mechanical click screen is a ridiculous idea. Kudos for RIM for at least coming up with a variation of the iPhones excellent UI and multi-touch screen. RIMs implementation is clunky, but a nice try using the SOP method from MS of "me too" development.
Alex @ Oct 15th 2008 11:55AM
Dude I was willing to sell my iPhone for this but now hell no! It's choppy and slow I'm mad when he turned it they were still waiting for the keyboard to go into landscape geez and it had to load when picking a artist in the music player that's crazy screw that when they fix all that up I may reconsider till then I'm okay.
dchem @ Oct 15th 2008 11:58AM
That is an incredibly steady hand!
dsac @ Oct 15th 2008 12:38PM
"UI doesn't respond instantly, this phone sucks!"
as previously mentioned, all smartphones lag. yes, hardware accel would be nice, but it's not a deal-breaker. i'm sure if you clear out some of the bloatware that voda/verizon loads in there, it'll pick up the pace a little.
"the mechanical click screen is a horrible idea"
see: Apple's new Macbook Touchpad. same crap, different package.
i'll be getting a Storm ASAP - i barely use my curve as a phone, almost exclusively for email and music, and the iphone (while obviously being better at handling music) can't hold a candle to bb's for email.
Mitch @ Oct 15th 2008 1:24PM
iPhone can't hold a candle to the BB email - wtf
Have you actually tried to view documents on a BB - what a pile of sh*t !
What about rich or HTML email - again try and read them on the BB - pile of sh*t !
iPhone is new and is gaining ground on the BB at a tremendous rate - Apple will release more functionality in the near future that will reinforce the iPhone in the corporate market.
Suck it in BB lovers.
Shane @ Oct 15th 2008 1:13PM
The Storm is going to be available for anyone and everyone to check out at the upcoming Blackberry Developer Conference next week.

Is it just me or did the browser look a little choppy? and whats up with the lack of WI-fi? Overall a great looking product and im sure a great product overall. I wonder how better or worse the browser would be in comparison to the G1
sias @ Oct 15th 2008 3:36PM
did anyone find the looped song sample slightly annoying?
another note, i can't wait for the storm. only about a month left.
rita hainsworth @ Oct 15th 2008 6:51PM
While I love the media functions of my Iphone, I find texting to be horrible, email is the worst, the signal strength is horrible and goes from full bars to NO SIGNAL without even moving the phone from one place to another. My phone freezes constantly ..first gen....and now after i get my alert tone for a text about five min later i get the alert tone again but now without a text.
I cant wait for this device. This plus an Ipod Touch will be a winning combo for me.
State tuned for the Youtube video of my Iphone being tortured with a hammer than flushed down the toilet where it belongs.
Bobby S. @ Oct 15th 2008 8:18PM
This phone is being released in Canada under Telus. I can't wait; I'm tired of my Chocolate LG 8600 flip phone.
joe @ Oct 15th 2008 8:30PM
you guys are complaining about how slow the phone switched to landscape.
You however didn't even seem to notice how fast the phone loaded the voda site
just go to the vodafone.com site on your comp and see how fast it loads.....
think about it
AJ in the East Bay @ Oct 15th 2008 8:52PM
Does it have the power to make good-voice-quality phone calls?
Joe @ Oct 16th 2008 9:34PM
Well verizon has good call quality for here.... but the device itself has a noise canceling mic on the back of the device so I would assume it makes for good clarity on the other end =)
