LG showcases 12.1-inch S-210 laptop in Korea
No telling if we North Americans will ever see this thing without the help of a dutiful importer, but if nothing else, it's fun to gawk at. Shown off in Korea at KES 2008, LG's 12.1-inch S-210 was said to be packing a 2.43GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4GB of RAM, eSATA / USB ports, VGA out, Ethernet, an NVIDIA graphics set, audio in / out, HDMI and Windows Vista. Pricing and release information wasn't even available for folks in Seoul, but we'll try extra hard not to forget about this completely forgettable machine amidst all the other metoos in the crowd.

why bother to report this one at all?
Juxterium @ Oct 18th 2008 11:52AM
Because potentially it could be a very interesting prospect with the inclusion of Nvidia graphics?
Nineteen88 @ Oct 18th 2008 1:52PM
The Macbooks look heavenly compared to this. Heck I'd even say the old Macbooks were better than this.
I think I'm infected with the iDisease. It's when you look down on products that aren't sold by Apple.
I'm not a fanboy, but beauty captures me. I see beauty everywhere, & I don't think this thing looks beautiful.
I say go buy a Macbook, I know I will when I have enough money.

@ Nineteen88
Moving into the real world, most of us want some performance and features for our money. Apple got half way there with the integrated Nvidia graphics but then dragged themselves down with the ultra glossy screen and removing firewire. I'm not saying they don't look good, because they do. But the fact is that even though the Macbooks may look great, and OSX may work very well (most of the time) it really isn't worth all the extra cash you have to put up for sub par hardware in all other areas.
iKurt @ Oct 18th 2008 11:57AM
Unlike the other "metoos" in the ultra-portable world, this one sports a full Core 2 Duo chip, not one of those low voltage or low voltage variants. This thing has the power of a macbook pro in a 12.1" package.
cesium @ Oct 18th 2008 5:58PM
Yeah, it's not a new concept in anyways (see the dell m1210 I'm typing on right now), but it doesn't seem like a metoo product due to the lack of full-powered 12" laptops
KilgoreTrout @ Oct 18th 2008 12:19PM
Is this a metoo? Metoo want one of these!
Jimmy Hoffa @ Oct 18th 2008 12:34PM
The OP missed the part where the laptop only weighs around 1 kg with all that stuff in it. Not sure how thick it is, given the size of the USB and VGA ports in relation to the side of the machine, but it doesn't look like it could be much thinner than a 13" Macbook. How is it so light? no hard drive or battery?
Levi @ Oct 18th 2008 12:38PM
Yeah, this one looks like it could probably eat all the other 12 inchers for breakfast... Unfortunately, I'm willing to bet the cost of the laptop that it's not going compete with the prices of most other 12 inchers.
I want one right MEAOW
michael rogers @ Oct 18th 2008 12:49PM
A "metoo" product?!?!
Ricardo @ Oct 18th 2008 12:55PM
So... an extremely light notebook with dedicated graphics and excellent processor is a metoo?
Wonder if Engadget's opinion would be any different if it had an apple logo behind it.
MyHeadisFed @ Oct 18th 2008 1:00PM
Um...metoo? I dunno that computer looks damnnnn sexy to me. Carbon fiber and brushed aluminum are both some of my favorites, not to mention the styling is well done and the specs in that small package are pretty impressive =P
BOGRASH @ Oct 18th 2008 1:10PM
well LG already sell similar models, and they are very expensive, so you can all stop peeing in your drawers. if this retails for less than 3000 us dollars i will buy one for every engadget commenter
f00 @ Oct 18th 2008 2:40PM
sweet; count me in :P
allies @ Nov 10th 2008 6:05AM
Well, figuring that this just debuted at 2million KRW, I think you're owing us some laptops...
YpoCaramel @ Oct 18th 2008 1:25PM
And about 1/2 of your other "me-toos" run on ULV CPUs whilst this one has a full-power Core 2 Duo? Gawd look at your friggin specs already, this is a much more powerful machine than the ones you listed.
Jash Sayani @ Oct 18th 2008 1:38PM
Wow!! Amazing config!! Apple charges a lot of *Apple Tax* for the similar config...
Cybergypsy @ Oct 18th 2008 1:59PM
Macbook all the way
Peter @ Oct 18th 2008 2:07PM
nice machine; but I wouldn't mind it being a little bit thicker and heavier if it included an (built-in) optical drive.
Sarig @ Oct 18th 2008 2:20PM
I don't really get why Engadget is talking down on this. It's got HDMI and everything.
GaryZ @ Oct 18th 2008 3:30PM
no hot korean models? bummer...
Ayadew @ Oct 18th 2008 6:49PM
Nice, this sound like something that I might actually buy. But why is it so damn ugly? :(
Ryousuke @ Oct 18th 2008 11:37PM
no optical drive?... seems to be a netbook imo :P
12.1 inch at that... the 13.3 macbook looks like the next gen ultra portable notebook to me!
iofthestorm @ Oct 19th 2008 12:16AM
Except this is about as powerful as a MBP, nowhere near the shitty performance from a $500 netbook. Of course, the price will probably come near that of a MBP but this one is actually worth it.
Bad Beaver @ Oct 19th 2008 8:46AM
I'm a Mac guy, but this looks really nice for a LG. It has a real keyboard (light?), not the wretched junk we see on Apple and Sony now, expansion port... and small, small, small.
