The $280 Eee PC 900A can make a dead president smile
If you thought that a $300 Eee PC 900A price was tempting then how about this: $280. Best Buy just dropped the price of this bare-bones Eee PC by a full Jackson. No catch, no limited time offer, just an 8.9-inch, Atom N270-based netbook with 4GB of flash SSD storage ready for the gift giving season.

Looks like prez is looking at porn.
Or any other president. I'm sure even Taft had a few Victorian "Plump Vixens without Linens!" tucked away somewhere.
@mdm-adph:
save one, perhaps: go read about james buchanan.
It's just cheaper than a LCD screen.
It's just cheaper than "an" LCD screen.
It's just cheaper than "a" Liquid Crystal Display
that's how i read it.

Andrew Jackson was great. He prevented a financial disaster a long time ago like the one occurring now by getting rid of the US's central bank. He stated that never again should a central bank come to the US, yet in 1913 the federal reserve was spawned.
A very intelligent post, on the wrong blog.
Aha... ha... ahahaha
AJ was great? Pleaseeee... He managed to take one of the biggest economic booms in history and nearly completely reverse it into a full blown depression. His personal vendetta against the banks (via Nicholas Biddle) cost many a common farmer their land. I'm sure he was a great guy to know in person, but he didn't make a great president.
....and AJ paid off the national debt. The only president to do so.
(No, Clinton didn't, he simply made the amount of exports larger than the amount of imports)
@ Chuck
Don't blame John. It's Ricker's fault for using such a HUGE (!!) off-topic picture (regardless of the Photoshopping) just to report an a $20 price drop (whoop-tee-do, btw).
If Engadget's gonna fill (almost) my entire screen with a portrait of Jackson, then I see nothing wrong with posters going off on an A.J. debate.
He's great as long as you weren't a Cherokee, forced off your land on the appropriately-named "Trail of Tears."
and how big the battery is? bestbuy doesn't say anything 'bout cell count in it...
Just buy a new one when the battery runs out.
3 cell
So what? The acer aspire 1 netbook with 8GB SSD is $279.99 CAD on sale...
keep your SHITE! Asus... eat it for breakfast...
Yup! The same acer aspire one is on sale on amazon.co.uk for 179.99 pounds (around US$300), Asus better stretch the cheapness of Taiwanese dollars... Times like these absolutely everything goes right down to the difference in pennies.
Sorry but at prices so similiar the Asus wins. The Acer's screen viewing angles are pretty terrible. You can only upgrade to 1.5GB RAM max, and that's after taking the whole laptop apart. Also, the 8GB SSD provided by Acer is too slow to run anything besides a lightweight Linux build.
I cannot tell a lie, this is a great deal!
Am I the only person who thinks a 4GB hard drive is a joke? I'd rather pay the additional $100 to get a netbook with 120GB hard drive. I understand the function of a netbook but 4GB??? I want to be able to save something on the device.
Isn't the whole point of a "net"-book == keeping everything stored remotely, thus you don't need lots of local storage?
I think you're getting this device confused with what's commonly called a "laptop computer."
Once again, I understand the purpose of a netbook. My phone has more storage space than this netbook. My flash drive I carry in my purse is 8GB. I see no point in such a small hard drive. This is just my opinion. I own a desktop and a laptop. But I'd like to be able to have more than 1 movie and ten songs stored on a netbook if I owned one.
A better deal is the 900HA, which also recently dropped by this very same dead prez in price. It's now $329 for 1GB RAM and a 160GB HD plus XP. Makes it currently the best dealio around.
+1 for the photoshop work.
@pedantic
LCD - The "L" isn't a vowel, so "a LCD" is fine
You are wrong my friend. Even though LCD starts with a wovel, the phonetic sound of it makes it need an "an".
A "elle cee dee"
An "elle cee dee"
Has anyone else noticed how stylish those old fashion clothes are? Thats a pretty cool suit. Modern suits are so boring.
when hardware is so cheap, people dont want to pay hundreds of dollars on useless OS like vista or windows 7
You guys stole my dead presidents remark from the Best Buy gift cards post!!
I demand I be credited...with dead presidents plz.
Wow. Just what I need. 300 bones is not too much to spend on being able to surf while crapping.
Well, now the first and last digits are correct... they just have to correct that pesky second digit.
I'm still waiting until I can buy respectable amount of performance in these "netbooks". Some Flash intensive pages choke XP and Vista. I suppose it just isn't aimed at my market although I love the idea of smaller. Although revisiting some classic video games like Command & Conquer seem more than a little inviting.
cheapy cheapy!
And only available in WHITE! At least, in the local Best Buy... Whatever possessed them to make it in white?
