While certainly not the first
ExpressCard SSD we've seen (heck, it's not even the first one
from this week), we're practically drooling at the thought of these becoming more pervasive. Here at
Macworld, Verbatim has announced its new 34mm ExpressCard SSD for PC and Mac users, which promises to be some five times faster than USB-based ExpressCards thanks to its true PCI-Express interface. The drives will ship at the end of next month in 16/32/64GB sizes, and we're told to expect read speeds of up to 125MB/sec and write speeds of up to 30MB/sec. Curious about pricing? Try $99.99, $149.99 and $299.99 from least capacious to most.

I need something bigger.
I've been spoiled by magnets.

I'm curious to see how flush they sit, or how far they stick out. Still, the more the merrier, costs will go down and soon we'll have a 128GB Exp/34 SSD avail for < 200 clams. That's when I'll buy one, esp if it is doesn't stick out too far from the side of my MBP.

They say it's a regular card size and it fits flush.

Even the 32GB one would be great if it sat flush with the MBP case. Large enough to hold the OS, swap, and temp.... man that Mac would boot fast and would power through most activities. Just don't forget the set up PS temp to the SSD.
LostAtoll @ Jan 6th 2009 11:41AM
man, this would be great, but would you be able to boot off of it?

Question: Is this compatible with Sony's XDCAM-EX system? They both use the ExpressCard standard, Sony' and Sandisk's cards happen to be way too pricey ($800) for 16GB....

I sure hope it works in the Sony EX camera. The pricing looks good, speeds seem good on paper, but need full support (over/under cranking) that the MxR just doesn't offer quite yet.
