HTC, Samsung, LG looking to Snapdragon for future handsets?
Qualcomm's Snapdragon mobile device platform was little more than suitcase-sized prototype vaporware at CES, but with the launch of the Toshiba TG01, it looks like it's ready to make a move -- word on Digitimes' somewhat unreliable Taiwanese street is that HTC, LG, Samsung and others are interested in the high-powered chipset. We're guessing that means we'll be seeing more more hotrod Windows Mobile devices in the short term, but Snapdragon also supports Android, so we're holding out hope that those upcoming HTC G-series devices crank the gaming and entertainment factors to 11.

Snapdragon supports Android? Great. But I don't think HTC thinks Android is entitled to any decent hardware.
Also, I'm kinda more excited about freakin' Tegra. Snapdragon may be 200 MHz faster, but its graphical performance is incomparable.
Gotta agree, I like Snapdragon but personally much more interested in TEGRA for it's multimedia capabilities.
Actually Snapdragon should be at least 2x faster than tegra. Tegra is ARM11 core and snapdragon is ARMv7(the same as cortex A8). This means that it should be at least 1.8x faster clock-to-clock performance wise.
About graphical and multimedia performance of snapdragon. We haven't seen any demos of 3D graphic or 720p video so we should wait until that and then judge. Tegra was nice to watch. It was supposed to gain attention but we don't now how it will perform in real life conditions. Snapdragon should offer roughly similar video performance according to specs and it too can use HDMI (dev board at this years CES had one).
Final confrontation will be exciting and after that I'll make my mind which one is better.
Snapdragon uses a completely different processor core... It's based on the Cortex-A8 which is an entire generation newer than the ARM11 in Tegra.... And while Nvidia's graphics tech will certainly be excellent, Imaginations new PowerVR SGX line is quite capable..
No thats more the keyboard layout I'd like to see on the N97 .. damn N-gage keypad.
Lets just hope HTC pays for and uses the full driver suite with this hardware, glares at Tilt.
Agreed!
*glares at Touch Pro*
Qualcomm really sucks, though. I don't see why anyone would want to do business with them....
Gotta skew that text a little bit.
This is pretty exciting considering Tegra is supposedly just for WinMo phones. Unless someone has a link otherwise. Android with a fierce all-in-one could be awesome.
if only.
Tegra could be the ONLY reason for me to buy a WM device.
Dude I agree. I bought a WinMo phone a few months back (AT&T Tilt, great phone) just to see what it's all about. There was quite a bit I liked about it, but it just wasn't as enjoyable to use as other phones. Tegra is honestly the reason I've been waiting to buy a new phone. If I hadn't heard about Tegra, I would've dropped the cash on a BB Bold or unlocked G1 by now.
Im with Arron on that...Qualcomm does suck.. Qualcomm limited The HTC Touch Pro useability. Its often slow and slugish graphics suck on it.
