Logitech Harmony Adapter for PlayStation 3 now shipping
Just try to wrap your minds around this, Harmony / PS3 owners: this weekend is the last weekend that your otherwise awesome universal remote won't be able to power on your otherwise awesome Blu-ray / media player. Wild, we know. Logitech's heralded Harmony Adapter for PlayStation 3 -- which converts the IR blasts coming from your Harmony-branded remote to Bluetooth signals that the console understands -- is now shipping. You can pretty much take your pick of e-tailers, but the read link leads to a sweet 10 percent off promotion that'll save you a few bones compared to buying from Amazon. Whatever the case, the MSRP is $59.99, so feel free to track down the best deal in all your free time.

About time!
As an xbox360/Harmony remote user, welcome to the club. It's awesome. When I got my console, I had no idea that 90% of it's use would be streaming content from my PC.
Harmony 360 remote FTW! What a kludge. Definitely one reason bluetooth support is not the end all be all. It wouldn't have cost them much to add IR.
$59.99?!?! That's pretty much the price of the damn remote itself!
Beat me to it! Though I will add that it's bluetooth, not IR, so it's definitely a better buy.
I have the PS3 BT remote that I got from amazon for 10$.. I think I am ok with an extra non directional remote that is 50$ cheaper than a remote add on
That's almost the price of the remote itself? I call bullshit.
My Harmony ONE cost me like $250.
Thats a $190 difference for those of you that can't do math.
Anyways, I will be buy this badboy as soon as I get home.
It's the last piece of the puzzle for my home entertainment system.
Now it will be fully automated, one press of a touchscreen button kick-assery.
I really thought this would come in at about the same cost of a PS3 Bluetooth remote (~$20). I picked up a PS3IR-Pro for $100 dollars about 8 months ago, and when I first looked into it, I was remember being surprised Logitech hadn't come up with a solution. As long as the competition can't compete I don't see the price dropping much. The IR2BT converter has been discontinued, and it was $50, the other option I know of is ps3toothfairy, at $89.
Hopefully the next Harmony I buy comes with IR and Bluetooth built in so it will work with any future Bluetooth devices (like maybe a Ps4? lol)
Oh well, I'm happy with my purchase, and have enjoyed the functionality!
Blurmagic, I have a refurbed Harmony 550 I picked up on Amazon for $49.99. Works just as good as new. So while, yes, you can do arithmetic, you're assuming every Harmony owner has what is actually one of the higher end models in the line.
Can they just add $60 to the price of their next remote and include bluetooth capability in the remote itself!
Yes, but then your normal remotes would not work. I think you're missing the point.
You don't have to get rid of iR functions. Just have both iR (cheap) and BT in the remote and have the software decide which one to use for the signal.
Yeah, I was talking about adding bluetooth, not taking away IR and RF.
If they had added BT to a new remote and released that, people would be b*tching about having to buy an entirely new remote...
Love it. Got it yesterday and it works perfectly with my Harmony One. My living room is complete.
Got mine Wednesday and it works great! Screw you haters, I don't want to buy another remote... I want to use the one I already have.
Ahmen brother.
I second that 100%
Full automation FTW!
Ditto, got mine today!
I'd be more concerned if this device works over z-wave, like my Harmony does to the range-extender. I hate line-of-sight requirements.
It would be hilarious if I had to attach an IR blaster to the front of this, just to get the range-extender to convert it to RF for my Harmony 890.
If that's the case, I don't see the high-end crowd really digging this model.
It has a port to plug directly into the harmony extender
That second plug without the yellow ring around it is for plugging a Harmony RF Wireless Extender into the unit.
Do they have solution for RF systems? My Bose Lifestyle system uses RF.
Im pretty sure the 890 is a RF remote. And it would work correctly with this setup.
why not just use the ps3 controller?
Why not just walk to the TV and change the channels using the "dial"?
WTF DUH
Well since my ps3 is the only thing that will play dvd's that is hooked up to our entertainment system, my parents would have to use it to play dvd's. And no matter how many times I tell them, x is like enter and circle is like the back button, they don't remember or care to know. So, this will be advantageous. Plus, it's easier.
That would be 890 >RF> extender >IR> PS3 adapter >BT> PS3.
I'd rather the remote use the built-in RF, or at least have this new module somehow connect directly to the extender.
It does. That's what the second plug is for.
890 >RF> extender > cable > PS3 adapter >BT> PS3
Sweet. Too bad they forgot IR. http://0ae26f07.thatsprime.com
You can connect the extender directly (by wire) to the Bluetooth module
Blu-Ray equipped HTPC FTMFW!!!
Nyko makes a USB IR adapter and remote for the PS3 which goes for about $10. Logitech has the Nyko codes in their database, so I've been using my Harmony to control my PS3 for months. There are two downsides- The USB ports are not powered until the PS3 is on, so you have to power on the PS3 from the console, or from a game controller. Also, it takes up one of the USB ports (I just use a hub). $60 is a steep price to get over those minor inconveniences.
That's probably a better solution, that way you don't have to find another outlet to plug in to.
I have that solution and I still think this is better. I'm still going to pay the $60. I would rather have to use up another plug, then use up a usb port. Plus, i have a feeling the controls will be alot better, and i wont have to use the touchscreen on my Harmony One to find the "x" button so i can select things. plus it will look better.
Because...why get up?
What do you mean "why get up"? Get up and what, walk over and look at the PS3? Are there controls somewhere on the PS3 itself that I am missing?
plus you have to get up to put the dvd/bd in it anyways.
@ alex l. I know it's about personal preference, but would it really kill you to use the controller?
and what does having a dial on your TV have anything to do with using your controller to navigate through dvd's? OHHH you mean by using the controller, you're implying that I must be archaic and stuck with a wood cabinet tube tv?
OH got it. good one, you got me.
Kill you? No. But it's about being able to use one device to control everything. It is really so crazy that if someone is sitting down to just watch a movie that they only want one remote? With a device like this you can control your PS3 along with all your other AV equipment with a single remote. You would never even have to pick up a single controller. But, yeah, the controller can get the job done. If you're satisfied with that then great.
what a waste. you can get a $20 USB IR adapter that works perfectly, is low profile and does everything except power the PS3 up. this thing is big and ugly. bah.
Does everything except do everything? lol.
Haters can keep fumbling with the controller or their weird workarounds that do part of what you need them to do. The Harmony adapter simply works, and does everything. Perfect.
RECESSION ANTIDOTE!!!
One on the way from Amazon.
I have both the nyko and this unit. (just got it yesterday) and this is so much nicer of a unit. Turns on and off the ps3 is what hopes and dreams r made of! It also frees up my usb port which is nice!
Oh happy days.
Best Buy also offers this online but of course, it's backordered.
Just ordered mine.... This was the one last thing that bothered me. I HATED using the PS3 controller and the $60 is worth it to me to never have to get up to get my PS3 controller again. Hooray to Logitech!
Any word on availability in Canada? I'm definitely picking this up ASAP.
Indeed, what's up with that? Logitech skips us again.
This is awesome! I hope FS gets it in stock soon.
I have the Nyko. in addition to mentioned drawbacks. The nyko is "technically" a controller. -> uses USB port, registers in #1 controller spot if you leave it plugged in, AND, it has a VERY minimal amount of commands. only controller button presses. It's not passing BT remote codes.
The Logitech sends remote codes. As the BT remote. Power on without needing controller. A+
-> also. some ppl stream more than they use dvd/bd.
