Netbooks and
digital picture frames aren't the only new territory Google's Android can be found exploring. ISB Corp is tinkering with the platform as a way of powering a set-top box. A reference board powered by TI's
OMAP 3530 processor was on display last week, strutting its video playback and web browsing capabilities at the 12th Embedded Systems Expo in Tokyo, and there the company said it was in the process of optimizing the software for a smooth HD video experience. It's also reportedly demonstrating support for wireless keyboards and Bluetooth. Frankly, we haven't been 100 percent sold on a lot of these Android implementations, but there's definitely potential here. Hopefully we can get some more glimpses of it in the not too distant future.

I guess you can say that Android is becoming quite the universal operating system for embedded and mobile devices.
Viva La Android. Ha, ha. See its not just a phone OS anymore. We could be seeing the next WinCE type system on our hands.
Imagine Android in everything... Phones, Computers, TVs, Even game consoles (as i hear its very developer friendly). Suck it Apple iPhone OS...That's what you get for being uptight and closed source.

To each his own. I would still be using my blackberry if it werent for the shear lack of no touchscreen and small screen size. I wasn't too fond of Android at first, to tell you the truth, until i got my G1 and started to see what kind of hacks i could do with it.

This is actually a pretty good application of Android...much better than putting it on netbooks.

Android is just linux.
adam.plante @ May 19th 2009 10:14PM
Its funny how people are all excited about android popping up in consumer electronics. Android is a linux varient and linux has been in embedded devices of all kinds for years. I have seen linux in everything from GPS' to POS'. Tivo runs on linux and my PVR from the cable company runs on BSD. I guess my question is; How is this news?
