This Pre handset is practically useless for texting and the phone itself feels cheap and plasticky. Get a BlackBerry Bold instead if you're absolutely addicted to a physical keyboard. If your Pre breaks and you need a replacement, you won't be able to get one for a month because they're in short supply.
If you want the best smartphone on the market, get an iPhone 3.0 because it does everything well and Apple has the best customer service in the world and more applications than any mobile device in existence. Show your iPhone logo to get into the hottest clubs and attract the finest women.
iPhone is wow! Pre is meh...
They've actually had it for about 2 weeks now. They're supposed to get used to it b4 launch and a sprint employee let me play with it. I do know her personally so im not sure any customer who walks in would be given the same access.
I personally wouldnt give up my iphone for it but my 8900 will gladly give up its place for this phone. ONLY if it was GSM. Oh and its SICK!!!

I don't hate the Pre. It's not worth the energy hating. Basically, I hate the hype of the Pre. If Palm had only said they were going to put out a smartphone that was going to be their best effort to rescusitate their dying company. Instead they started talking about challenging the iPhone for sales. This is absolutely absurd. This is the company that said the iPhone "can't just walk in and take over the smartphone industry." Can you believe that sh!t?
When Apple introduced the iPhone, they said they would go after 1% of the cellphone market. Apple never claimed they were going to dethrone any company or be a killer to any particular handset. This BS Palm bravado is just insane. They have a one-trick, three-legged pony and believe they can challenge Apple. Even boxers have to go through the second and third tier opponents before going after the crown. Palm should have said that they're going up against Motorola, LG or Sony-Ericsson or some other small fry company. Palm can probably kick the crap out of those companies without even trying.
Palm's just stirring up a hornet's nest with the wrong company, that's all. An OS that's going to run web apps is just lame. Just as lame as when the iPhone got chided for trying to run only web apps on a new OS. Palm should have quietly announced the Pre, put it into production and let the users praise it. Not go about spouting about how their cute handset is going to change the smartphone industry. Palm could have done that years ago, but figured they'd just sit back and neglect their loyal users.

Uhhm the iphone is more than a year old and is not brought into the market to compete against the pre. You should have enough brains to know that Apple is releasing a new phone soon that will compete against phones such as the pre...
LOL. Whoops. Yeh, I meant to say I love Apple. Im typing this on a Mac. Point is...the Pre has a physical keyboard and as good as the iPhones touchscreen is, nothing beats a physical keyboard. And also - the Pre will be on more carriers. Lots of things to consider which phone will be more successfull.

Why is the iphone "SO" much better? I can't think of a single reason other than storage capacity (which I don't think is that big of a deal).
are there going to be two versions of the pre, because the one BGR has seems to be made of matte rather than this plasticky one
the back cover is different if it's got the touchstone back on. That could be it

That's just the reflected light from their ceiling - it is just as glossy as everybody else's.
Yes, the inductive charging battery cover (for using the Touchstone charger - $70) is a matte finish, and the non-Touchstone charger version will have a glossy finish like this.
Touchstone charger version = matte, regular charger version = gloss.

I think there has been so much hype about this, that it won't deliver at all.
Plus with HTC Android phones launching here in Canada in a couple days (which are very very nice), new Iphone in July. it will be too little too late.
I do not understand why a company that is banking their entire future, basically, is only launching on one carrier........
