ASUS Eee PC 1005HA up for pre-order on Amazon
ASUS' Eee PC 1005HA (the cooler, younger brother of the 1008HA) impressed us when we first caught a peep of it in the wild. Internally, the two netbooks are identical -- but the 1005HA boasts a user-replaceable battery, and leaves out the recessed ports and port doors (which we found to be slightly annoying -- though attractive -- in our review of the 1008HA). Well, it's up on Amazon for pre-order now, which means we might be seeing this one sooner rather than later. For now, it's priced at $349.99, but we'll see if that price holds when it's actually available.

im tired of netbooks, ugh
, too many types of mobile computers. UMPC's, netbooks, ultraportables, laptops; what next, more laptops like HP dv2z's??
They are getting awfully tiring, but a lot less impressive to boot. Why on earth is this thing half-again the weight of my old Eee PC 900 while only one inch bigger? Why is it one inch bigger at all when the screen still runs a piddly little 1024x600? A couple hours of extra battery life really doesn't warrant the switch.
pre-order on newegg:

you got to be freak'n kidding me... the 1005HA-H looks like its going to sport a nice shine(glossy screen).... this thing was so close to being perfect. http://www.slashgear.com/asus-eee-pc-1005ha-m-1005ha-h-announced-1543954/
N270? boo!
atom 330 FTW?
Amazon should really change their Smile/arrow's right side, because it looks like a pen*s, do they not notice that or what?
I think the average user doesn't see it like that.
I hear it is going to be available on the 24th through the 7/2 date period. Some ebay seller has one for sale.
Finally a netbook with small size and a 9 hour battery life. Woohoo!
Doesn't the 1000HE already achieve a 8+ hour battery life?
Yes, but the six-cell battery is flush pretty much and the laptop is overall pretty thin.
I don't buy anything without a picture
Why would I overpay for a macbook and install windows 7 on it?
Rofl, Hi Paul,
Your name changing skills are not very good. P.A.C. Man and now this.
Paul, you forgot to turn off viewing your post history as you usually do.
Oh, BTW, Hater.
Macbooks are the biggest piece of mobile garbage I have ever seen. I own two, and the trackpad lags terribly. I usually miss my mark when I try to close firefox, great idea to place the close button next to all of the menus. Also, the screen is impossible to read on the subway or even in the back of my S550, just like you. They're also incredibly underpowered, with GPUs that were obsolete when the came out. You may not know it, but the macbook air gives you crap for the money you pay, as well as a friend snapping hers in half (Literally!) when she put it in a backpack with a couple of schoolbooks. It also is incredibly inpractical.
But who am I kidding, if the macbook wheel or the iPhone shuffle came out you would still say they're amazing. The iPhone shuffle, BTW, is essentially a rotary dial with no screen.
I know that ever since 2005 Macs = PC since they have Core 2 Duo, DDR2 or 3 Ram and Nvida GPU. But why overpay for a PC?
Macs = PCs theres no differance except the EFI. So STOP overpaying for PCs by buying one with a Fruit-logo on the cover.
what do netbook's and the Wii's have in common
do the same thing at half the price
Anyone thinking this is merely a 1008HA with a removable battery better check out this picture:

THANK YOU. i was hoping someone would point this out. since i own a 1008HA i will admit i have bias but they are far from the same thing. the 1005HA is much thicker. the replaceable battery and RAM bay is a huge advantage but i prefer form over function in this case
They had a display model set up yesterday 6/19 at my Best Buy in Orem, UT along with some other new full size Asus lappys. Looked pretty sexy and the blue shirt showed me a $299 price tag but they only received 2 units in and had sold both earlier. Their supposed to get 18 on Tuesday so look for them en masse next week.
@Paul AC: Macs are only great for those incapable of clicking more than one button.
Woah, hpz. Calm down. Please.............don't offend, at least ignore it or defend.
Actually they removed that button too in the latest ones.
.........well.......despite the reliability and aesthetics of the macbook, I think some people don't need a macbook for everyday tasks. That's probably the reason why netbooks exist now. Although, prices over $500 defeat the purpose of a netbook. I think Windows is a real OS as well, it has a kernel, task scheduler, api's, etc. Please be respectful Paul.
Please Paul, try not to say stuff like that. I know you are saying it offend some people around.
Well, anything with a kernel and any method to boot or whatever would be deemed an operating system. Look, I'm not saying Windows is better than Mac OS X, it's just an OS.
Paul AC: Don't you mean "LMiAO"?

Woops........just ignore my comment above. I accidentally posted that.
This model has the smaller of the two available 6-cell batteries. I already pre-ordered the model with the larger 6-cell battery (10.5 h battery life rated) on newegg. Just a heads up.
Brian, just say you hate Macbooks....
I have the 1008HA and will probably buy the 1005HA as well.
Be sure to stay tuned as I'll do side by side comparisons etc:

: ( Ummmmm.......let me rephrase that.....say you don't like Macbooks.
when is the Eee PC 1004 DN being released thats the notebook i want http://www.asus.com/News.aspx?N_ID=9CEa2w4Lz1370Mvz
Paul, you always talk about providing proof for your so called "facts". Would you like to provide proof that any of the people that have responded to your post are paid by Microsoft as you have claimed?
If you cannot, then I you are lying, and therefore making "libelous, deceptive, fraudulent" (from the Engadget terms of service) claims, which can result in you being banned. Again.
Laptop mag has hands on with it and got close to 9 hours of battery of standard battery. http://blog.laptopmag.com/king-of-the-eees-hands-on-with-asus-eee-pc-1005ha
I don't think netbooks are worth more than $200
Best Buy is going to be selling it also. It is at 299.99 and it will be blue with the atom processor (1.6 ghz) 1 gb ram, 160 gb hard drive........you know the regular specifications. Some stores have it in stock now, but it won't be advertised until the 28th. I know this because i work at one and just had to check it out and share the wealth :)
Grimm, contact me via the contact form at: http://www.netbookreviews.com
For some reason these posts don't sound like Paul Chapel to me.
Why even bring up Apple? You must really hate Apple, because you always say that people that bring up Apple in non-Apple stories are just Apple haters.
Ok, I just read his first comment and have now read his replies and I have to agree, this doesn't sound like Paul. Is Paul dead?
In all seriousness it sounds like Kirk, aka iKirk, aka iShirk, aka iSh4rk, aka iAirmanShark.
Please don't play the guessing game, it only allows him to puff up his chest more and think that he has people confused. Whenever he pulls out one of his multiple-personality alter egos (such as P.A.C. MAN, which has been proven to be Paul since the flicker page he gives out has a user name of PAC MAN 3000), he does the same thing, interjecting these hit and run posts and then runs back and starts yelling that everybody is paid off by Microsoft. It would not be somebody else posing as him (at least not one of those listed), as they have builtup their "reputation" and would not allow themselves to ride on somebody else's coattails like that - unless Paul, iKirk, etc. were all the same person. Finally, by you saying that it sounds like somebody else, it just gives him a chance to say that you are stalking and obsessed with him by analyzing his writing style - which he has done before.
I will not be tempted to purchase another netbook unless it's on the ion platform ...

I work at best buy and we are already selling it at alot of locations. I put it on the shelf myself 2 days ago. Grimm is right, it is 299.
Just a note this is the lesser model with the N270, smaller battery (claim of 8 hours) no bluetooth, and 0.3M camera. The version w/ the larger battery (N280, BT, and 1.3M camera) is supposed to retail for $389.
I actually picked one up on Sat from BestBuy. Yay broken street dates FTW!! Didn't even realize that it was a new model. Drunk time to sleep.
before going for this u might want to look here..
