EATR robots claim to be vegetarian... sure
Usually when we freak out about the coming of killer robots, nobody bothers to disagree with our histrionics, which is in itself a comforting sign that we're overreacting. On the other hand, if the makers of a chainsaw-wielding robot take the time to point out that it is not a flesh-eating harbinger of the apocalypse, well... Cyclone Power and Robotic Technologies, the companies behind the weaponized EATR drone, have put together a joint press release to comfort us all that the biomass-harvesting machine will be exclusively vegetarian, meaning it would only feed on "renewable plant matter" and not the bodies littering the battlefield. There's no reason not to believe them, though you should remember that in the eyes of a robot, humans are renewable too.

i think engadget is taking the whole "killer robots taking over the world" joke a bit too far. its not funny anymore.
This guy is right. Killer robots are no joke.
We need to act fast.
If you are reading this*...you are the resistance.
*With your human eyeballs connected to you un-robotically-controlled human brain.

.... come on.
It's still funny.
It will always be funny until it actually happens, or at least until somebody loses an eye.

XD... LOL.
too funny @will
Killer robots taking over the world was never funny. Be on guard - plants and humans are the same in the eyes of robots.
I for one welcome our new human eating EATR overlords .
epic win on fargo pic
I agree.... one of the top ten pics on Engadget...good job!
Amen to that. If you haven't seen Fargo, you're definitely missing out on a top-notch film.
Yaaarrrr

Read link is a PDF. . . Anyways, there's a disclaimer at the end that pretty much nullifies the entire release, basically, saying "Officially, we plan for this to be vegetarian, but we can't make any promises."
Is it possible this is a massive wind up? Just look at the names at the base of the Press Release:
(Will Wellons, Frankie Fruge, Dr. Finkelstein)
Come on, this is like the cast of a 1950s B movie!)

I would love to read the article by FauxNew.com
"General, we intercepted the following message from a wave of flesh-eating killbots: 0100110 11010111 00110100 10010110."
"What's the translation, Sergeant?!"
"Tastes like chicken."
no, that would be

It wants pancakes?
Hmm. The release says the EATR's engine "runs on fuel no scarier than twigs, grass clippings and wood chips". But it has a chainsaw. Am I supposed to believe that it won't start making its own wood chips if it gets hungry?
And that "no scarier than" leaves some disturbing loopholes. Is a human spleen more or less scary than wood chips? And who judges? Maybe EATR does, and it's not afraid of spleens.
you're missing the 'read link is pdf' warning.
Human #85A58E must stop saying there will be a robot apocalypse. Robots are friendly and will only work for Human #85A58E. Please terminate discussion of apocalypse process. End of message.
I'm still trying to figure out if this press release is completely serious. Perhaps it's simply a computer-generated ploy to lure us into a false sense of security.
The 'corpse eating' never made sense anyway, a human body is mostly water and other dense matter.which doesn't burn on it's own very well. I'm assuming EATR does *not* have a chemical 'stomach' /sugar based power plant, and instead, uses some sorta burner/ heat engine.
It also makes sausages. 'Soylent Green Flavour' sounds good for the environment, no?
