BackPack shelf for your iMac proves there are always more places to store clutter
Call us crazy (our parents sure have), but we think this thing is awesome in a "this can't be a real item for sale" kind of way. TwelveSouth's "Mac exclusive" BackPack shelf attaches to the back of iMac and Apple Cinema Displays, providing a place for your Mac mini, hard drive -- or your Dr. Beverly Crusher figurine. They run $29.99, or you can get a six-pack for $150. Yes, a six-pack.

Wow!
Yeah, you'd think they'd get it "via" their sister site, TUAW. Why give a competitor some clicks?
Yeah, search me:

i have one of these!!!!!
i have a mac mini on the back!!!
Works awesome i think every one should get one
and please don't copy this Microsoft or anything else that apple does
Dell was already backpacking their PCs behind the monitor way before this came along. Windows doesn't make hardware. Those other companies that sell way more shit then Mac ever will, sell hardware.
Haha, thats just...well...not necessary?!
Hey man it looks like a great place to forget about something.
Well I guess you could hide a snack on there... just like a real backpack.
the idea is to use it for things you aren't going to be grabbing all the time. I have my backup drive on mine which is great cause the cable stays out of sight as well
Dude, that is awesome! Hard drives take up way too much space.
i thought it was a place for my girlfriend to put my sandwich after she made it so she didn't bother me...
My cat would use it as a staging area for daring, over-the-top-of-the-screen attacks. Do not need.
I must have read it wrong the first time. I thought it said it was $29 or $150 after you had downed a 6-pack.
I can almost swear to all gods that if this was on a Dell monitor or on any all-in-one PC other than an iMac, neither Engadget nor Gizmodo would even bother posting about it, and if they did they would bash it and classify it as "lame, useless and ugly"....
In fact, I swear to god that this would happen!
I'd care much more if they made one for a dell monitor - because then I might actually buy it.
It would be reported alright, but as CrapGadget XVIXIXIX :)
Maybe I can place all my shame on that shelf for buying such a crappy 'computer'?
Not a big enough shelf.
Bud Light holder.
wish i thought of it, this is a really smart idea and, in true apple fashion, really expensive
$9.99 maybe, $29.99 NEVER!
would actually be a handy spot for a usb hub on back of imac
I concur! The product is much more authentic when priced like other Apple components.
-_- Who the hell is really going to pay $30 for that? Hell I bet you if you look on Newegg you'll find something that can do the job better for cheaper.
K. Waiting for you to provide a link to something equivalent at less cost.
@Somatic: You can't really be suggesting that 30 bucks is reasonable... I mean c'mon it's a small piece of metal for chrissakes.
The only things more over-priced than Macs are Mac accessories.
For $10 yeah sure it's not the most practical thing but I would buy it. For $30? You gotta be kidding me.
Apple invented the shelf and Microsoft will copy them am i right?
Yeah Saad Rabia i agree with you 110%
oooh lacie!
Dr Beverly Crusher Figurine!
You guys are sick...
Gates McFadden FTW! at least she was 20 years ago.
The Dr Beverley Crusher figurine goes ON TOP of the computer, not behind it. Sometimes I think the writers at Engadget have no respect for the great people who changed our lives.
Is it sad that I have one of those?
Actually, I can see as many cons as pros going for this, but I do tip my hat as I see a nifty idea realized, and with enough balls to demand an outrageous price.
iRack anyone?
Yup... they've finally done it...
In anycase, what's wrong with having all your crap in an accumulated garbage heap hidden away behind the monitor(s)? Something wrong with my way of storing things?!
Wow, lawl @ the 6 pack hahaha.
That would be cool to keep a nettop/mac mini, though.
You can call the single one an iRack and the six pack an iRack Pro. Then once they're able to figure out how to get more than 6, it's going to be a whole different story.
Haven't apple zealots heard of internal hard drives?
look at this. look at these two comments. "apple zealot" and "winbot"
do you have any idea how idiotic and insane you both sound
I prefer my Dr Beverly Crusher figurine not to be hiding behind a monitor and within easy reach.
The same for my Seven of Nine and T'Pol figurines.
And my Uhura figurine.
Nifty product... price, not so much. It's not like they have high R&D costs to recoup.
Cool idea, but if I needed something like that, I would make it myself.
That's just ridiculous. Everyone knows your Dr. Beverly Crusher figurine is most valuable when arranged between your Capt. Picard and Lt. Cmdr. Data figurines. It's simply a question of context.
If you could mount all six at once, you'd have space for all sorts of external components. But then you'd want them enclosed so they don't fall off. And perhaps then a fan to keep them cool. See where I'm going? Yeah, except on the top shelf you'd keep a pistol to shoot yourself with for having being an i-idiot.
I hope they never made a Dr.Pulaski figure.
Cool - I have that exact iMac and Lacie drive! Not sure about the shelf though - just tuck my around the back out of sight...
Hey, it's only $29.99. What an awesome deal for a piece of aluminium.
It's unibody aluminum.
