Fortune names RIM fastest growing company... in the world

It shouldn't come as too much of a surprise that RIM is doing pretty well even in the face of an economic downturn, but it looks like it's been doing really well -- at least according to Fortune, which has just named the Canadian company the fastest growing firm in the world. That's apparently based on a combination of profits, turnover, and investment return over three years which, in RIM's case, translates an 84% growth in profits in the past three years, a 77% growth in revenue, and a total return of 45%. It's also actually the first time RIM has made the list, although that's at least partly due to the fact that Fortune didn't include non-US firms last time around.

This is good news.
Mainly because I bought their stocks a few months ago. If only I had bought it years ago.
:(
How are our plans for world domination coming along?
Are those 2 having a picture pose battle?
Next step is a Zoolander style walk-off
But when you see BB has to lower their phone price to $50 to compete with the iCompany,
you know it is time to get out. Because margin pressure is mounting.
Congratulations RIM. I am watching you!
....Your "I'm watching you..." just reminded me of something I saw a few days ago. LOL!

@Zak
surely you missed the underlying facts of the Fortune article. Market cap has nothing to do with it.

Won't be going very fast at all if they are using GPRS.
cool guy.
Apple who?
You know, Apple. You haven't heard of the iPhone? That's funny, because the iPhone was the reason RIM created the BlackBerry Storm, which of course failed almost instantly. Click screen what?
Apple, come on, you must have heard of them. They trade at twice as much as RIM? Their market cap is triple what RIM's is? It's great that RIM is doing well, but seriously, comparing them to Apple is stupid for a lot of reasons. For one thing, Apple completely owns them in the consumer segment. RIM is doing well because of the corporate segment. For another, RIM is not even in the same league as Apple, financially.
He was probably joking. You know what a joke is, right?
P.S. Does anyone know if this thing was called "worlds fastest growing company" last year too? Cuz it would be kinda funny to name something "worlds _______" and then only include US companies. :P.
@Zak
Apple were thirty-ninth I think. You appear to be confusing 'growth' and 'size'.
Oh yeah I'm sure it was just a joke. So why wasn't it funny? No seriously, you guys don't see anything wrong with saying "Apple who?" when Apple is such a larger company than RIM? Not to mention worth more? Or do you honestly believe that because RIM had a good growth year, that's going to do anything to impact Apple's standing compared to RIM?
Tell you what, let RIM work up to a market cap of about 150 billion, then we'll talk about "Apple who". Right now it's much closer to "RIM who?"
Mark Anderson, what makes you think I'm confusing growth and size when I didn't mention either one? Are you making assumptions again, or just not reading what I'm saying?
Zak, you do realize Apple makes more than phones, right?
Wow.. it's pretty funny, all these paragraphs worth of rebuttal, when all this bigcap cat said were two words. Word?
Maybe Bighap hasen't heard of apple because, like many blackberry users, he is to busy doing working to bother.
that or he is cracking wise, a wisecrackberry joke.
help!
Apple. Y'know, the company that made the smartphone after which the Storm was modeled, but failed.
It's good to hear RIM is doing fantastic though. I hope their Storm 2 fares better than the first iteration as all their other phones are doing quite well. The more RIM, Palm, Apple and Google succeed the more nails get hammered on WinMo's coffin. I'm glad HTC is seeing the light and moving more of their phones to Android. But back to RIM, much success to them. :)
@Zak
You seemed to put a lot of research into your little diatribe when you know it's gonna get down-voted to the point where people can't read it.
I like your dedication, if not your overall demeanor and fanboy'ism.
Dude, Zak, calm the fuck down. It was a joke, and reacted in your typical douchy fashion. Call your doctor, I think they need to rebalance your meds.
Zak, take that fuji apple out of your butt.
I love all the non-responses from all the anti-Apple chuckleheads. No, it's ok. Don't actually respond to anything I was saying, because that might involve thinking. Instead, you can downrank me and tell me I'm stupid. That'll show me.

Lots of people buying iphones.....but even more people buying Curves and Tours and Bolds and Storms and what not! I can appreciate the power of BlackBerry. Nice job, RIM. (Don't twist the words around in my last sentence, it could be bad...)
RIM: Jobs for everyone!
I see what you did there.
Kudos to you, sir.
Reference to Steve?
Not even I could have come up with that, 5 stars!
Who do you think you are(,) Patrick C. Bateman?
They gave me a couple of RIM jobs in the past, and I'm getting another one next co-op term (starting September). It feels goooooood.
@ JinJin, no I'm trying to be your mom. Ask a stupid question, get a stupid answer. JinJin=FAIL
Nice. They are putting out some great phones, as always. If I did not get a G1 I may have gotten a Blackberry on T-Mobile.
You are welcome to thank me some other time...
perhaps they will take the spinning sands of time out of my blackberry curve running on sprint
they spin and spin and spin
all day long
perhaps to provide sand for apple's spinning beachball of death
rim has the hourglass of death
what does it take to provoke the hourglass of death?
unplug it
plug it
switch batteries
open an application
close an application
open the web
close the web
look at it wrong
set it gently on a surface
this is the wack-est phone ever
unless rim is seeking a class action lawsuit
they'd better fix this farcocta handset
Being Canadian, eh, I wish Jim Balsillie was taken as seriously by the NHL! I also hope that they haven't overstretched. RIM still lacks a credible touch-phone model. Although they have hit homers with the Bold and the new Tour looks good, these are traditional Blackberries.
Bettman is an asshat
Would have been nice if he showed this much resolve to keep the nords and jets where they belong!
Eff the yotes
Yet the NHL Board of Governors still thinks that Balsillie would not be a good team owner...
Yeah everyone knows thats bs. Gary Bettman just doesnt like Balsillie plain and simple.
I think Balsillie stole Bettmans girl in high school or something, who knows?
Don't even get me started...
Sincerely,
- Disgruntled Hamiltonian
make it seven ;)
WHO DOESN'T LIKE (to) RIM?
(sry bout caps)
Good ol' Canadian company eh! Country with the best economy in this economic downturn too! I'ts not all ice, snow, and igloo's up here my friends.
What's with the "white man in folded arms" pose?
serious business
hey, i'm doing my part - last 3 phones have been blackberries. just got a Tour recently with Sprint. it does about everything i want, but in the future i hope they start making the screens touch-sensitive with pinch-zooming to help in getting around the browser. it's a little tedious with the scoll-ball. also, faster CPU please. and some 3D graphical capability.
I like.
A lot.
Threw out the iPhone for a Bold!
that's saying a lot considering RIM only sells cell phones. go RIM!
i went RIM (tour) and i this is the happiest i have ever been with any mobile device.
Uh-oh.
Time to sell.
