Did you ever use Android? Get back to your Apple Cave
hurry up XDA , me want HTC Magic Port , Yesterday !!!!
I can flash this if I have a rooted G1, if I'm not mistaken. But, I'm happy with cyans last donut build so it matters not.
What's this one called, Fried Dough?
Android 1.6: Malasada
Yeah... I mean who needs multitasking and customization?
If it fits on an ADP, is there hope that G1 users will get 1.6 too...?
I sure as hell hope so. I really like my G1 and don't want to get a new phone...
Yea, if you root your phone, you can get the same stuff we do
Did they remove all the Google branded apps?
/s
Samsung already developed a phone with Android. Samsung Galaxy anyone?
Why do WinMo and Android users get left out in the cold once they leave the store? System updates are always few and far between and in WinMos case, NEVER get released to customers who already purchased the device. What you buy is what your stuck with until you buy a new phone.
Without XDA people would be screwed
I've had two WinMo updates for my ATT Tilt.
They exist, but there isn't much to update.
I have some concern about the constant need to update the OS.
They always had that Windows Update service on the devices, but I never saw one of the updates. :-)
Isnt much to update?? are you kidding me?
Now i can only speak from experience. I havent had an Android device, only WinMo.
My Touch cruise had 1 update from memory, and it was half assed.
What about camera software updates?
What about Manila updates?
What about HTC Keyboard skin updates?
Dialer skin updates?
Connection Manager updates?
Audio Manager updates?
Heck even updates which include the 3D drivers that were supposed to be their in the first place.
Most of these updates are interchangable from one device to the next. Thats why you see Rhodium or HD or Jade packages inside a Touch Cruise rom.
Why cant HTC just update their devices officially!
Then of course the biggies like being able to update from 2003se to 5 to 6 to 6.5 (i believe some were allowed to update to 6.1)
Android is about as open source as the iphone... it's a joke. Google is just as much a parent figure to Android as Apple is to the iphone.
Yeah... Because when you are playing DoodleJump, you want your actual phone functions to be useless.
iPhone 3GS is the biggest joke that ever hit the market! Yeah, we got Copy-Paste etc now for a few 100 bucks.
How does Android phones(like the Hero) handle these software updates? Are they updated over the air, like the Pre? Or do you have to plug the phone into the computer? If so, is it Mac compatible?
OTA updates
Last Hero update was via USB connection. Was expected it to be OTA.
If it's an Google-branded phone, I think you might get Over-The-Air update like before. If it's not an Google-branded phone, it depends on the operator and the phone manufacturer I think.
G1 gets them OTA - but the ADP1 you need to flash over USB.
Yes...cause it took iPhone only a year to get to iPhone OS 3.0
Sit down sir.
Is it just me or have Apple fans become extra pesky lately?
I am a Palm Pre owner and I do enjoy me android. I bought my dad an anroid phone for hid birth day and I like it. Anyway yes iPhone users are very pesky even in all the Palm Pre related posts. I NEVER see an android user bash the Pre news comments and I never see a Pre owner bash Android. In conclusion, I hope by 2013 the only phone OS'S that are dominant are WebOS and Android. The iPhone will die off. People think its too big to die but look at motarola V3 AKA (Razr) iPhone is the Razr of smart phones.
i think i have seen a couple of android fanboy/trolls posts but they were in an iphone thread, so it was ok.
I hear what you're saying but in all reality the BB Curve is the "Razr of Smartphones" as the Curve is on every major carrier in the US and while I'm not 100% sure it probably is on a lot of oversees carriers too.
iphone would really need to be on verizon, sprint, et al. but as soon as the AT&T exclusivity is over its up for grabs at that point
@dr house, taking ages to do 0.1? what about ur beloved apple OSX? which updates on a 0.01 basis? i'm guessing they take a good bit longer to release a 0.1 update then google does.
I wish I could Dual boot Android and the iPhone OS on my iPod touch 1st Generation.
I prefer symbian on Nokia N97.
A little background, in front of me right now is a 1st gen iPhone, 2nd Gen iPhone, HTC G1, HTC MyTouch, Blackberry 8100, and Blackberry 9500. All have there strong points and weak points. iPhones are good for the ease of use (and typing IMIO I can type way faster on any iPhone than any other phone because of the auto correct), Android is good for the customizer but is IMO lacking in the overall usability and refinement and so is the Blackberry. But the reason I use the Blackberry for my main phone is because it is the one that drives me crazy the least.
iPhones with Apple saying which applications I am able to put onto the device. That should be my decision, same as wether or not I would like to run things in the background. I don't want to wait 3-5 seconds for my SMS app to open 10-20 times an hour.
Android is just not polished enough for me. There is no need for a touch screen and trackball. There is no need for a home button and an escape button. Home button can be same as end button, just as RIM does it. And the escape button does not always bring you back a screen sometimes brings you back to home/or different app when you were 2 screens into the app. The app store is decent but there is no guarantee that the apps will behave the way they advertise. Many apps that I downloaded would not load or would force quit on many launches. And these are standard phones no hacking.
Blackberry is lacking heavily with their browser. Only two other things drives me crazy with the Blackberry. Having SMS and Email/PIN separate if I go into SMS and hit create new it asks which kind and lists SMS,MMS,Email,PIN, BBM. If I am in SMS I would like to create an SMS or MMS. If I am in Email I would want to create Email/PIN and if I am in BBM I would like to create BBM very simple in my mind. The only other thing that drives me crazy is with google maps and thats not a Blackberry problem.
With all this arguing over which is best everyone needs to remember that to each their own. For some the iPhone is the best choice, others will like Android the most and there will be some that can not live without their Blackberry. If you failed to noticed that I didn't include WinMo I haven't played with it for more than 4 years so I have nothing to say about it.
"Android is about as open source as the iphone... it's a joke. Google is just as much a parent figure to Android as Apple is to the iphone."
What kind of crack are you smoking? Android IS completely open-source --EXACTLY opposite from iPhone OS. Here's a link for you: http://source.android.com/download
Go back to your mansion Bill Gates, you obviously know nothing.

I just loaded it up on my rooted G1.
It's not an earthshattering update. Wait till the app devs get a hold of the new text-to-speech and OCR features, though. But it's snappy and stable, and fixes two minor but irritating 1.5 issues:
1. The browser no longer refreshes the content when you switch to another app and then back
2. The camera starts up pretty much instantly, and has very little shutter lag.
So I'll call that pretty good for a .1 update.
OMG, this is what I've been hoping for:
1. The browser no longer refreshes the content when you switch to another app and then back
