GlideTV Navigator puts Media Center controls in the palm of your hand

Otherwise content users of Boxee or Hulu on the big screen in the living room, the tyranny of the keyboard and mouse may finally be over! GlideTV Navigator is a palm-sized remote control that features a trackpad and backlit AV buttons, just the thing to further enable your YouTube addiction beyond the confines of your computer nook. Works with Windows XP or Vista (we're assuming there's a Windows 7 version on tap as well), Mac OS X, and the Sony PS3, and the package includes a charging cradle and USB receiver. Sadly, the on-screen keyboard and integrated search apps are Windows only for the time being. Look to spend about $149 -- but not before peeping the gallery below.

IT is nice ot have a trackpad. It makes navigation easier.
Why does everything need a Youtube feature!!!!!
I have to agree - youtube is so over rated. All the gadgets I own have a stinkin youtube button and I never even look at youtube.
I like YouTube, I use YouTube everyday
I like it, but not shelling out $150 for it. I'll stick with a wireless mouse tyvm.
on screen keyboard? no thanks, dinovo mini still wins
Ditto, I'll save $20 and get a dinovo mini.
diNovo Mini FTW
I tried just about everything there is to try in the living room., including the dinovo mini, but so far nothing has been a perfect solution. Dinovo Edge is sleek, can touch type, but just too big for everyday living room use. Dinovo Mini is compact, but typing on that is still a pain. Too small to touch type and just too big to comfortably thumb type. Problem is, even when thumb typing your always looking down, then up, down, then up, since the screen is in front of me and the keyboard is below. Tried it with the PS3 chatpad thingy and same problem. At the end of the day, on screen keyboard is a compromise, but not any worse in my mind; at least I get to keep looking at the screen.
With that price I'd debate getting an Apple TV with and throwing Boxee on it.
OR
If you already have a PS3 or Xbox360 just purchasing PlayOn
Just to clarify my point. If your using a media device (xbox360/PS3/AppleTV) instead of plugging your PC into your TV. It'll make it a lot more easier to control...
It looks cool and is probably comfortable to hold, but I think you might need a really long thumb to reach the buttons on the side opposite your thumb.
This is interesting to say the least, but the Dinovo Mini trumps this for HTPC applications. Eventually, you will need a keyboard. Although that trackpad looks nice and large, the all-in-one solution is usually the best way to go.
It's no Harmony remote..
Or you could just get an iphone with AirMouse.
i didnt want to bring up the iphone, but yeah, airmouse is amazing, i pretty much only use that now
ditto. airmouse is ma favoritz
I've played around some with Airmouse, and it is pretty cool, if you already have an iPhone or iPod, but otherwise that is an additional $200 for the iPod or an additional $200 plus $80/month contract for the iPhone. I'm sure that eventually the price for this Navigator thing will come down.
Or an Itouch with Airmouse
I use AirMouse + iPhone but don't like how it takes 10-15 seconds just to connect. I have my keyboard behind me for when I need to pause a movie quickly. Any alternatives?
If it's as ergonomic as it appears, then I'm in!
Regards,
Are you kidding? If it operates how I assume from the picture, where you rest it in your palm and press the buttons, it's either a two handed remote, or the least ergonomic remote control ever created.
Try this for me: Hold you hand out flat, point at your tv with your palm up. Now, place your current remote control in you palm, straight across it. No, successfully operate the remote with your thumb.
My point: XBCD + xbox(or 360) controller = win, this = not so much win.
The image that Engadget shows doesn't seem to provide much in the way of how you hold it, but a trip over to the site here: http://glidetv.com/buttonmapping.html, had an image of a hand holding it with the thumb on the touchpad. Looks pretty easy.
OR or or... the Logitech MX Air Mouse. Love it. Combine it with the Dinovo Edge and you have the perfect HTPC setup, IMO. The Dinovo Mini is OK, too -- but not if you do a lot of typing on your HTPC setup ... as I'm doing now.
Um, the DiNovo edge already has a touchpad.
Well, I don’t have a toy (XB) to draw the comparison but I’ll take your word for it. Actually, I was thinking this new device would effectively be cradled in the four fingers with manipulation via the thumb. I’ll to have go look at an XB to better understand your reasoning.
Regards,
After a second look, it is rather big!
Slick looking. But if it take more than one keystroke to jump to a different numbered channel, then no thanks!
I don't get it..
