Grace E-motorbikes are ultralightweight, German, and very expensive

We've ridden our fair share of electric bikes and motorcycles, but we've yet to get our hands on one that's been hand assembled in Berlin/Biesenthal. Grace boasts a water-tight / ultra-light CNC-Aluminum frame, a 1300-watt motor, lithium-ion batteries, a 40 30 MPH speed, a range of up to 31 miles, and a one-hour recharge time. Looks good enough for a Kraftwerk video, although you'd better steer clear of the Autobahn with this thing. The bike starts shipping in January for €5,877 ($8,760-ish).Video after the break.
[Thanks, Christopher]
See more video at our hub!

Wow!.. I like it
Needs drop handlebars tbh, look at the rider in the video, he could get so much lower down than that. Probably would give another 10% on top speed.
How about an electric bike for $280?

Excellent for commuting, shopping, simply getting off your butt and getting exercise in the sunshine.
Nice, that would actually work for commuting to work only if the cost was affordable :D
Tell than I guess I'll stick with the car.
I think, that it beats hybrid cars. More eco-friendly, no traffic jams and still you can try to use your muscles from time to time ;)
Wow. Really nice. I haven't cycled in a while but this is a bike that would allow me to revisit.
O man this is nice. Do Want!
Very nice. This could be ideal for general aviation pilots and passengers who land at remote airports and need to be able to get into town but don't have a car stationed and ready at the remote airport.
Compared to some high end cycle's the price isn't that terrible, plus this thing can hit 40mph and recharges in a hour, not to shabby.
This bike has one of the best styles in the field yet. Someday, these bikes will hit a sweet spot that will get me to open my wallet. Sub $1000 and we can start a conversation.
"Slap Chop" Vince approved cuz “you know the Germans make good stuff”
One more point: I, of course, can't speak to what everyone makes, but they market these bikes to people who can't afford them.
DO WANT
Going 40 MPH on a bike would be pretty intense! Bring the price down a couple K and I am there.
I like the chick
When I first saw this post, I thought to myself why is Microsoft sponsoring a bike, then I look carefully it just that logo on the bike is too colorful.
It's the google chrome logo.
You guys did your math wrong. 45 KPH is about 28 MPH, not 40. BIG difference.
the sport version goes up to 75 kph, math is still wrong, but at least reasonably close.
try going to the website
You would think they would proofread these things by now.
That's definitely the best looking electric motor bicycle I've seen. I seriously hope it will come down in price after a few years, because this would be great to have!
i love its look!
An electric bicycle for the price of an electric motorcycle.
So why doesn't this count as an electric motorcycle?
@John Stracke
It has pedals.
The point I was really trying to make is that this costs the same as the Bremmo and Zero electric motorcycles, both of which have a better range and can travel at least twice as fast.
There are a lot of companies that produce electric bicycles, and most of them are in the $3000 - $6000 range with the same capabilities as this bike.
The government makes you take motorcycle classes and requires you to have a endorsed drivers license though. No insurance either, although that may be a gray area.
A bicycle is just a bicycle.
As for this bike. I think it needs a better rear suspension. And, I would like the price to come down a little (a lot). But that's about it.
Cool, but I'll pass. I can go faster than 45km/h and twice as long on a bike i peddle. And aluminium was cool 10 years ago. For that much money everything should be carbon.
No helmet.. not cool.
Agreed!
The specs may be impressive but can you say "HIGH STANDOVER HEIGHT"?! Talk about a 1990-vintage, falsetto-inducing geometry. . . .
Needs drop handlebars tbh.
Yeah no thanks, I'll take a motorcycle for that price. Now drop that price to about a grand or so and I'll consider it
I'm almost certain it's not legal to ride something with a 1300 on the roads over here in the UK (without an appropriate drivers license and proper certification eg. tax, MOT and registration), what's the situation in other countries?
Sad that this is still cheaper than pretty much any normal bike with Campagnolo Record components.
Not legal in Germany, what a shame.
Not because of too much power (where would be the fun in that?). No, EU regulations say the pedals are required to be used constantly, otherwise the motor has to shut off. Safety regulation, or so I'm told.
Lever acceleration needs a motorcycle licence, with tax and everything.
That silver jump suit and hair is soooo retro 80ies.
Engadget should reveiw the Ecoped City 45.
this is almost as cool as motorized skates... and almost as suicidal... he didn't even wear a helmet.
Har, surprised no one has noticed yet...
They paired a too-large bike with a too-short model. There's absolutely no way that model could throw one leg over that top tube, and be able to stand over the bike. *laugh*
That's cool with a k. Except the price $8000. Save some more & u can get a car.
