Pomera DM20 Digital Memo puts your old Brother to shame
If the Pomera Digital Memo DM10 appeals to anyone (and we figure it must appeal to someone), you can chalk it up to the device's narrow scope: it's for writin' with, and for folding up and puttin' in your pocket -- and that's it. The DM20, our friends at Engadget Japan tell us, expands the brief ever-so-slightly, bumping up storage to 89MB, upping the display to 5-inches, and adding text to 2D barcode conversion, while keeping same 20+ hours operation with 2 AAA batteries. Seriously, though, in the end it's really just a word processor. Is that how you want to take notes? We didn't think so. Expect to see it hit the shelves in Japan on December 11 for ¥34,650 (just shy of $400).

yeah...
@werty1432k 400 bucks for a word processor, yeah?
No.
@conscious That was the awkward yeah that means no. Like yeah...(why would we ever want this)?
I'd rather spend that $400 on a netbook.

Yup, waste of 4 bones.
@(Unverified) +1 That was my exact thought
Dot matrix printer included or no sale!
Pre-ordered mine, hoping it will ship before Christmas. This thing is amazing. It doesn't run Crysis!
woah, $400, seriously?
if it was 40 it would almost be a normal price for something like this

it sold 90000 units already.
The previous model was so successful that they made this one.
Wait, are you sure you didn't just accidentally run a story from 1997?

I'm surprised that it's not from Peek.
Wow, my jaw literally dropped when I saw that price. What are they thinking?
Many writers still own typewriters or electric word processors to have something portable(ish) and capable of only writing, with no possible distractions. I imagine that was the thought process here.
I actually made a google email alert for this item... I really want to know what happens to this product...how many units they will end up selling and who would actually buy this thing.
400? Pardon? Is actually *made* in Japan? From precious materials? By monks? Otherwise it looks nice. Some people actually have some focused writing to do every now and then. A device with zero possible distraction factors can be handy.
Yea but does it Twitter?
It looks like the interface is the same as in my Casio EX-WORD electronic dictionary from Japan.
Coincidence?
State of the art technology which everyone will use...
What, is no one living in 1991 like me?
At $100, I can see this being an attractive value proposition. At $400, not so much....
I would use my iPhone instead. Cost about the same but a lot more feature. Not just a black and white word processor.
Wow 1994!
The form factor is unusual but very appealing. Now, if someone would combine that with a reasonable feature set and a flexible OS, they might have a viable product.
I had a Sony Clie' flashback...
Sort of cool. Way to expensive though. And why is the keyboard in English when the screen is Japanese?
I want something like this, but not for $400. I hope there'll be some barely-used ones soon on Ebay.
That is, if this baby speaks English.
