Dell's Adamo XPS now shipping to some (and we've got pics to prove it)

Same as the original Adamo. Not my cup of tea.
Yes because only "some" would buy this ugly thing. Seriously how could they go from making a really good looking Adamo to this? I hope this makes all the older Adamos go down in price though because I would love to pick one up on ebay for $500 :D
@SwiTch
I'll agree, at first i was like damn, i want it, but the more i look at it. it's not worth it at all. Really uncomfortable looking form factor. I really hope this doesn't catch on.
I still don't get how it would sit on your lap...
@Ned Scott
Actually it sits better than any other laptop since air vents are not blocked by your lap.
@tiago
I don't see how that makes it more stable/comfortable. Bottom air-vents on a laptop are a major design flaw, and should be corrected by moving the vents rather than.. a bike-stand..
@Ned Scott
It just won't sit in your lap, i think it kinda just "stands" on your lap?
I always disliked when i use keyboards that are "raised", so this laptop design is a no-go for me. Dell wants to decrease the thickness of these laptops by adding an appendix at the end of the screen like in the Adamo or at the back of the laptop, like in the Vostro V13, we have enough with the protruding batteries.
@Ned Scott
Seems an odd design. They should have the vents on the rear and find a way to make it fold normal for lap use and then somehow have an extending option for placing on a flat solid surface. As it is now that seems like it would feel un-secured on your lap as you type.
is that a special gesture you have to do to open it ? you know some asian engineer was killed with a multi-touch gesture once :) he then died.
Look at the awful viewing angles, the day we get an OLED screen on a laptop for under 2k is the day I buy I new laptop.
@Adamo
Vostro V13 called, it's on the Dell website stealing your sales.
It sure is going to be difficult to sell such an expensive, high-quality notebook to people who barely want to pay $350 for any computer. I see even harder times ahead for Dell and other U.S. Windows PC computer manufacturers.
"high-quality notebook to people who barely want to pay $350 for any computer."
That's a contradiction since people buy MacBooks and the like. Are you projecting this instance on Windows manufacturers? (you probably are)
In any case, I've had my Extensa 4630z by Acer, and I performs well and above considering I paid $599 for it. Not to mention the C2D I put in it could run rings around the AXPS. It's a "high-quality notebook" to me.
But go ahead, keep trying to dictate to the world that you have to shell out more than your neighbor for "high-quality".
@Average White Boy - Apple seems to be doing just fine with the high-end market... If Dell can get something that people want, then they'll get the buyers. I think unfortunately Apple and OS X have such a good image in the eyes of consumers it'll be hard to do that though.
@Average White Boy you know, i'm tired of explaining this to people. you're an idiot.
Maybe I'm dumb, but how the hell is this considered a "laptop"?
I just don't get this "formfactor" at all.
It's a pretty laptop however the asthetics of the monitor doubling as a stand aren't very pleasing to me.
Must be great for air flow and cooling however.
If I were to get that spendy on a laptop however, I'd probably end up getting a MBP and a copy of Windows 7. Then again, I have a desktop at work, a desktop on my living room at home a netbook with URN 9.04 for the odd time when I'm at neither places so a laptop isn't particularly necessary for me.
@Rask
You use 'however' a lot.
@7egend Heh. You're right. I was typing this at work while my co-worker was going on and on about something else that I don't particularly remember. Must proof-read more.
Wow that keyboard is a blatant ripoff. I am looking up and down at my apple laptop keypad area. Power button and all its ridiculous these PC companies can't innovate.
@honorelsu Yeah, because apple totally invented the keyboard.
@honorelsu Just let it go. Seriously.
@honorelsu What about the Windows key? Pretty sure Apple made that too.
/s
Wow his comment is totally stupid. I am looking up and down at his paragraph. Irrational and all it's ridiculous these fanboys can't troll good.
@kraken Of course not, but they do have their own unique style on their keyboards. You are missing the point. Its an exact duplication of button placement, rounded edges, even the function keys are similar smaller rectangle.
@honorelsu
Not really, while they both use a Chiclets style keyboard, they both have their differences.
"even the function keys are similar smaller rectangle."
.....
@honorelsu
You DO know Sony came up with that style of keyboard first, right? Doesn't that mean that Apple's keyboards are a blatant ripoff?
@honorelsu duplication? They've been doing the chiclet for YEARS. paranoid.
@honorelsu heres your sign
Infinite Loop of depression? Had to get the Apple reference in somehow ;)
@MVMNT
True but hats off to them for the clever way of doing it.
How many times does Dell have to fail before they realize that, as a company, they're just not very good at being innovative or cool?
@Ed T how is this not innovative? It's a completely fresh take on hinge design and BY FAR the thinnest laptop out there - don't you think that's innovation?
And well, coolness is a very personal thing. Just because you think it isn't cool doesn't mean somebody else thinks the same.
This laptop seems very, very interesting. I'm impressed with how slim it is, and I like the cool latch (not not a latch) thing. The issue is the overall design. I just don't get the keyboard and hinging mechanism...
If this we're in a standard laptop form factor, then I'd probably be quite a bit more interested.
I don't think the form factor is going to work very well sitting on a tray table back in coach. It tough enough with my MacBook Air. I think that raised screen is just going to make it completely unusable if the guy in front reclines even a little.
Are the galleries EVER going to work with this new re-design??? Does anybody have any idea how to get a hold of the powers that be regarding this issue???
That is THE most ridiculous looking laptop i have EVER seen. And that is not a good ridiculous.
im sorry but this looks terrible for the price you are paying, can you even use it on your lap?
Looks oh so comfortable to place on your lap...
Thats great news for all 3 people who want one.
But at least thats one more than the two who bought the last Adamo.
I really don't understand all the hate, I mean the Adamo is a brand based on flamboyance, so why not make something stand out? I'm surprised that the thing can support itself on its hinges, yet it's a "fashion fopa" on a tech site full of nerds. Who cares if it can't sit on your lap, give Dell some credit for innovation!
