Verizon's Incredible new phone may be in stores within 'two weeks'
It's a mighty aggressive schedule for a handset that hasn't even been announced yet, but the latest scuttlebutt regarding the HTC Incredible suggests that the phone will make its debut on Verizon's airwaves about two weeks from now. It was already known that the Incredible was destined for a rendezvous with Big Red, but this latest word solidifies and specifies that future nicely -- and it's claimed to come directly from internal sources at Verizon. There's also further mention of 512MB of DRAM allied to a downclocked Snapdragon CPU (capable of 1GHz, running at 768MHz), an 8 megapixel camera, a 1,300 mAh battery, and body dimensions almost indistinguishable from those belonging to the Nexus One. Good thing too, since Verizon is still keeping us waiting on a mysterious Spring release of Google's own-brand phone. We get the feeling Android 2.1 and the new Sense UI will fill that gap nicely, however, and if you really must have that 1GHz speed, there are ways to achieve such things too.

Looks slick, and those specs... Hope its as good as it looks on paper :D
@max1c
just like my next girlfriend
@max1c Looks like an really ugly "HTC Desire"... with 8MP camera instead of 5MP
@max1c
Not much incredible about it.
Hm, this looks like it might be Verizon's version of the Nexus One after all. I mean, it satisfies all the rumors of the Nexus One being available in stores and will hit around the same general time as the N1 on all of the other networks.... I guess we'll just have to see.
@Greenverde
No way that's going to happen. All the documentation states clearly that the Nexus One (and its clearly defined specs on the site) will be available for Verizon. Exact paste from google.com/phone "The Nexus One Phone with Verizon Wireless service. Coming soon in the United States."
There it is clear as day. It doesn't say a similar handset to the N1 or a HTC sense version of the N1 or an 8mpixel version. So if it's true that the Incredible comes out in 2 weeks, there will be two awesome android phones for the big V. And its possible the N1 will be sold only online while the Incredible will be sold in stores.
It's not a rumor that Verizon is getting the Nexus One. Google says so right on the Nexus One homepage that it's coming to Verizon in "Spring 2010".

I would strongly consider this phone if it didn't have Sense. I'm sure there is a way to change that.... I suppose I will Google it. Ha.
@Chazwell
http://www.androidguys.com/2009/10/22/how-to-turn-off-htc-sense/
@Chazwell You can disable sense, however the main problem with sense is not anything wrong with it but simply that you won't get official updates as quickly or at all. Sense is actually great. But it makes much more sense(no pun intended) to get a non skinned phone and install sense.
@Chazwell
this is the same thing that puts me off the SE x10
fantastic hardware but will it ever get any updates?
@iCello I know that Sense is very stable, I'm just simply not a fan of it. So if I were to get the Incredible and disable Sense would I then be able to update to 2.1?
@Chazwell
Update to 2.1? It comes with 2.1
@tluv00 Great, thank you! What about future updates, do they occur the same they would on the Nexus One?
@Chazwell
Updates will depend on how fast HTC releases them since they modified Android with SenseUI. The Nexus One uses stock Android so whenever Google releases an update, the N1 is more or less good to go.
HTC would have to take those updates from Google and add whatever tweaks/patches they need to, THEN release it for their phones. Of course, once HTC is done it looks like their updates also have to go through Carrier specific testing before it's actually available for the users to download.
At any rate, how many 1.5-1.6 Android phones have 2.1 available right now to download?
@Chazwell
Just curious... why do you not like sense? I specifically bought an HTC phone for sense. It will do everything that stock android does, adds some nice extras, and IMO, has a really nice looking interface.
@naterecording
sorry, just saw your answer about updates. Point taken.
@Chazwell As the person above me said, depends on HTC. But the Hero(there last phone with sense) is still on 1.5. Although they've said there's an update straight to 2.1 coming, it hasn't and there isn't even a date for it to happen. Of course, you can always root your phone and someone somewhere will have an unofficial update, but that could be buggy.
@naterecording It isn't just the update, I actually cannot stand the hill that is always at the bottom of the home screen. It looks very much like a toy to me or something of that nature. I know, not very practical reason.
@Chazwell If you want this phone without the forked Sense UI, get a Nexus One. You won't regret it for a second.
@McPOW That has been my plan, but I'm completely open to other devices. In fact, a majority of people are going to hate me for this, I'm also waiting to see what comes out of Cupertino this summer before getting a long term device. Also, I think it may be possible that Palm will announce a new device.
@Chazwell
Can I get the Nexus One and put the Sense UI on it when I want to?
@Gasaraki http://phandroid.com/2010/02/18/htc-sense-ported-to-nexus-one/
@Chazwell It's funny; I'm only really interested in buying android phones with sense. I just can't go back to stock android after using it.
...scuttlebutt?
You know, I was talking to the manager of a verizon kiosk this month and he told me that they would have a couple new phones by the end of the month. So... This one? + what? We were talking about the droid vs the pre plus, so in the context of those two devices.
@iCello + the Nexus One?
@iCello
Managers at Kiosks dont know sh*t about whats coming out or whether they will have a job next week
How big the display is? Hope it's HD2 size and res
@rainbury, Nexus One size and res
@rainbury
nope, not nearly as large as the HD2! Held it in my hands a few weeks ago, a gentleman I know test's phone in Beta. And it felt more like an Eris on Steroids. Had the Red back which was both gross looking, and was a finger print magnet. Other then that, very slick and light. Big Red will deff sell a ton of these babies in the stores, while the Nex goes to online only from Google!
Sweet Jeebus! That means I'll only have a short time to play with 2.1 on my Eris before someone in the family gets my hand-me-down!
So what are the specs on the Incredible (vs Nexus One). I keep hearing 768mhz and 256mb ram, etc.., Is it simply running at that for most normal priority use and it utilizes the 1300mhz(??) and 512mb for high priority stuff?
@fiction
thats wrong... its not underclocked, it runs at different speeds (idles lower)... and it has more memory than that.... check android forums, they have all the specs.
so the VZonline website is down. Can't access account or their phone page. I know I know... It would be crazy if its an update for the phone to be preordered online... be one can dream
Not much point for Google to put out a verizon N1 if this is is hitting the provider as well.
There are various versions of the snapdragon. The one used in the Acer One for example is NOT capable of 1Ghz (at least the majority of them can´t run at this speed) so it´s very likely that this mobile also uses the lower bin snapdragons (which are probably cheaper)
I swear everytime someone quotes 'underclocked snapdragon' they're just too stupid to realize it's just scaling clockspeed to load...
Engadget. Are you purposefully posting that debunked nonsense about the "underclocked" Snapdragon processor to protect your "boys" at Apple? It's already been confirmed several times HANDS ON that the processor runs 1Ghz and 245Mhz(idle). Check the same source that every other source you use uses: http://androidforums.com/htc-incredible/42916-official-htc-incredible-thread.html.
There is a thread with people who have either tested or toyed with the device. Right now it's the best resource on the web for Incredible information.
"Verizon's Incredible new phone".... No!... It's HTC's new Phone that is manufactured to Verizon...
Americans? WHY!!, Why are cellphones manufacturers do phones TO OPERATORS??... It's just only sick..
In sweden it's, "Buy one cellphone.... use it with all operators you want" and none Phone thats manufactured for just a operator..
@leetsweden
Our networks are not compatible for the most part. The ones that are, the carriers do not make it easy (or possible for the most part) to do. For example, current VZW and Sprint 3G networks are compatible, but it's really, really hard to talk a rep into activating a phone from one carrier to another, if they even can. T-Mobile and AT&T are both GSM carriers, but they use different bands for 3G.
If this rumor is true, at the very least you'll be able to touch and play with this phone in person at Verizon stores, instead of relying on buying something online without ever having seen it in person.
Ugly industrial design.. same reason I won't by a droid
@obobo
Which seems odd since so many of HTC's phones (like the desire) are very much the opposite in appearance. More "iPhone-like" if you will.
@obobo
Verizon's probably wanted it that way to match the looks of the Droid. That way it will fit with the marketing campaign they used for the Droid. Seemed to be rather successful last time around. It seems Verizon is creating the definative line of anti iPhone droids.
@obobo I agree. IMHO, is just FUGLY.
Can someone explain to me why anyone would buy a Nexus One for Verizon if the Incredible is available?
Why pay for a phone up front if you still have to pay monthly rates with built-in subsidy charges?
Every Carrier needs to offer a European plan like T-mobile.
@steel Agreed. I ALMOST bought the N1 for T-Mobile but went with the Droid instead. The only reason was cost of entry. Over the course of 2 years I will end up spending $138 more for the Droid + Verizon thing than if I went with T-Mo but was necessary because Verizon has way better service in my area which was a huge deciding factor coming from AT&T.
@steel Because the us phone carriers all suck. But I'd mech rather pay $1000 up front and not have to pay monthly then get it free and have to pay monthly.
@iCello
But that's my point. With US carriers, there is no option to "not pay" monthly. Except for T-mobile that is.
