iPad 3G orders being processed?

We've had a number of reports come in that various people's bank accounts were giving simultaneous good and bad news. First the latter: a pending charge upwards of $888 for an order you probably placed a month ago and forgot about -- hope tax day didn't wipe you out too much. The good news, should you brave that sudden financial burden, is that it emanates from Apple Computers and seems to indicate that the gang in Cupertino is, as indicated in an earlier email, on track to start delivering iPad 3Gs in late April. Got an outstanding reservation? Better check with your online money handler...[Thanks Justin and everyone else who sent this in!]

@AppleDrank Can't wait to spend 800+ dollars on something I don't need, because, well, that's the beauty of apple. They sell you things that you definitely don't need, but, wow, are they cool! I can't wait until it shows up on my doorstep! :)

@pishmish I would wager that you don't "need" any of the technology devices in your home to live. You choose to purchase them because you feel they will enhance your life in some way.

@candyer09 But you can't play Halo 3 on it and without it my life is so incomplete. I want to buy HP Slate so I can play Halo 3 while I'm watching a HD video while I'm surfing and playing music in the back ground while I'm on a phone call. You see I can't do all of that on iPad so I will buy HP Slate its so thick that it will fulfill all of my needs so what if it looks like my 5 year old Fisher Price Toy.

Even if it did exist, that hp slate wouldnt even be able to handle all that, there is no point of multitasking, if it lags like crazy...

dont bother.... avatars never seem to stick at this website anyway. I use one and in a day it's always gone, if it even loads in the first place

@Fantastadon Agreed I have tried to load one many times and it never works. I have even emailed some of the editors with no response. On the top right of the screen where it says log out click the picture next to it. And my aviators load just fine on Gizmodo.

Look at the top of the site, you will see a engadget mobile phone icon (it has log in next to it).
Click that and the page you go to has an option to change it.

I agree it's a little out of hand but for those who are siting on their 3G ipads while everyone is playing on there wifi ones would like to know

Wait, what? People actually paid the extra cash for the 3G model of gadget that they'll have trouble using comfortably outside the house?
@r3loaded I know I waited for the 3G model because it has a GPS and the wifi only does not. Apps like Yelp, and Trapster work much much better with GPS for checking traffic or finding a new place to eat dinner.
@icase81 Wi-Fi triangulation has always worked extremely well in my experience though. Since this is an "indoors" product, I'd have though that would have been enough for detecting location. Or, they could have just slapped the GPS chip into both models...
@r3loaded Who wouldn't want to spend an extra $130 on 3G when it will be costing Apple roughly an extra $5 in part costs?

$888 is enough to get your HP 17' Icore7 Laptop..

Yes, but then you'd have a massive 17" 'notebook' ('phonebook?') computer rather than a tablet.
So if you want a tablet, that would be the wrong choice. Similarly, if you want a huge folding computer, the iPad would be a horrible choice.
Why'd they pick $888, anyway? Isn't the 16GB 3G model $629?

I have a 17" HP laptop.., it is not very fun too move around. Family members call it a boat ankor. It also makes for a good heater if it is in a small room.

$887.03 is $829 plus 7%. Someone bought the most expensive model and lives in a place with 7% sales tax. They didn't "pick" $888.
since the wifi version in large numbers shuts down networks, I hope these get out quick. Until then they are banned on our company network.

i preordered april 11th, still no charge posted for me...i love being one of the few people who actually get excited about headlines like this one =)
I bet Apple isn't announcing an official release date to relieve some of the pressure on FedEx. On WiFi release day, FedEx was having huge issues. They would come by to drop off orders from other sites, like Amazon, and then the same guy would come back a few hours later to deliver their iPad. People were confused, and both FedEx and Apple probably received their fair share of angry customers on the phone asking where their iPads were. We're all accustomed to the idea that all pre-orders will be delivered on launch day. If they never announce an official release date, people like myself won't expect to get it the same day everyone else does. It'll just show up on my doorstep in "Late April."
