BlackBerry 9670 flip spotted running OS 6.0, causes eyes to bleed, children to cry
According to BGR, we're apparently looking at the first shots of a phone numbered 9670 in RIM's BlackBerry parlance, a true QWERTY flip running BlackBerry OS 6.0 on a 480 x 360 display with WiFi, a 5 megapixel camera, optical pad (as is the case with every new BlackBerry these days), microSD expansion, and a huge external display that's eerily reminiscent of Moto's RAZR 2. The device is said to be running CDMA, which almost certainly means it's being shopped around to Sprint and Verizon exclusively among major carriers -- the only other big potential takers would be Bell and Telus, and they're in the midst of migrating to HSPA -- so we'll just sit back, relax, and see if this thing materializes at WES next week. Granted, we've got to see it in person and gaze at a few non-blurrycam shots before passing final judgment, but we're admittedly a little worried about the merciless beating the ugly stick may have delivered up in Waterloo this time around.

ugh
@MONKEY ugh indeed
**scratches head** Not sure what to make of this.
@Moyg
Their thinking the WRONG way. Not too much of a reason for a clam phone these days. I mean they have some advantages but I mean seriously?! I know this sounds like a palm copy (and it sort of is;P) but they should try the slide out form of keyboard if they're going to do this.
@MONKEY MY EYES MY EYES!!!
They'll never get it. RIM is stuck in the past.
@futurerheza
And THIS is who some of you want to buy Palm?
@SolidSnake I wouldn't mind them buying Palm of they basically just became Palm, with tons of money and a lot more engineers and awesome keyboard designers.
@Moyg
This phone looks pretty good to me. It appears to have the Bold 9000 keyboard, which is awesome, and the clamshell form fact has it's advantages.
Again, not sure why so many think this is an ugly phone.
@MONKEY
It's got a face only a mamma can love. And she's blind.
@MONKEY
Make it Stop!!!
@MONKEY Oh no the StarTAC is back!
Those icons make me wanna grab a crayon and fill them up.
@ToniCipriani I love it, I wanted a pearl flip but this is league ahead , good job RIM . Canada ftw?!
@MONKEY My thought almost exactly. I thought, "Oh, this is ugly." I certainly hope this is just a prototype because this is far uglier than their first flip phone.

@MONKEY
Damn. I really wish they would stop using that really reflective chrome!
Maybe if they used the brushed chrome from the 8900 it'd maaaybe look better, but still, yuk.
@crichton007
It's not a prototype. There is a picture of it with a sticker on the back claiming it is an evaluation device. Evaluation devices will have the same hardware, but the final release may have tweaked software. This is it, sadly.
@MONKEY
I think it'd work at the mainstream market (i.e. Kin, iPhone 3G, etc.), but I would never want to get caught using one of those around the office.
@MONKEY
Hey RIM ... You're doing it wrong!
@MONKEY
can it run doom?
@ToniCipriani
The Star Tac was much nicer than this. Granted, the software may be improved...
@MONKEY clamshell indeed, hopefully the screen will be augmented once unveiled to the public. Been waiting for the BB magnumg though.

Facepalm.
@SolidSnake Facepalm with a Dunce hat on.
@SolidSnake
It will be ok.

Don't care much for it. Blackberries shouldn't be flip phones.
@kmaynard0017 Agreed; they also shouldn't look like KIRF's
@kmaynard0017
Smartphones shouldnt Flip at all.
@Jaylittles531 What about ones that flip horizontally for a full keyboard?
@tkrow21 ........... that's called a slide .............
@month
i think he means like the Moto Backflip? maybe? *shrug*
@stig
Kirf was the first thing that came to mind when I saw this.
Uhh, its not the best device, but what is at the blurrycam stage?
give it some time people. I don't think its all that bad.
To be honest, it may not be the best looking, but it can be handy. It's smaller, and you don't have to protect the screen from damage as much.
UGLY and looks like M$ Kin
@HellFlyer haha um no.
And saying M$ is so last year
Wow... a blackberry flip phone. Have I missed something? And the OS is remarkably blue (both in the literal and figurative sense).
@prodigypv
Yes, you missed hte Pearl (or WTF it was called)
And the downward fall of a giant begins
@Luxury Guy I wouldn't go that far, but if they carry on like this they just might become the new Palm.
@sonola777
Shut up
@tjdrodgers
No, you shut up.
This Blackberry era needs to come to an end if they're going to be all arrogant & smug thinking they can make POS devices, not give a TRUE update to their OS, not increase App memory for installing programs, not increase device specs (ie. 256 RAM?) and still expect me to do a damn battery pull every time I install something or do ALT+SHIFT commands if something fudges up.
RIM...GET WITH THE EFFING PROGRAM ALREADY or GTFO
@Luxury Guy
Someone said that already... two years ago.
Fanboi/haters are NOT the masses.
But yeah, that thing is ugly.
And the downward fall of a giant begins.
That is the ugliest piece I've seen in a long time. It's like a Qwerty Jitterbug.
@Waltah
Brick: Where did you get that phone from? The toilet store?!
