Sony Internet TV Box revealed by the FCC as Google TV device?
Could the white box splayed atop the FCC workbench above known as the NSZ-GT1 be the first Google TV box from Sony? Sure seems to be: the 25 x 33-cm (9.8 x 13-inch) device is called the "Internet TV Box" in the FCC documents, similar wording to Sony's already announced "Sony Internet TV" with integrated Google TV thingamaservice. The Foxconn-built settop box with 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi radios just cleared the FCC en route to an apparent US launch. The when is the big question -- presumably on or around September 1st, the date that Sony's short-term confidentiality request expires -- that's considered Fall right? A few notable document images after the break.

I think the letters S, O, N and Y give it away that it's from, erm, that respective company. cheers.
@buoy i hope they sell it for $50
@potretr oh for sure!!! we need a company with some decent economies of scale to jump all over this tech. about time too.
@buoy Are you trying to point out the obvious to the author that already knew it or to the comment readers? "Erm" one of us is failing at comprehension of what we've read.
@buoy
I don't if I want to buy another Sony product...been unhappy with mine so far.
Also, it better come in black to match my home theater setup at school.
@juanvaldez read the first line of the article again, then read my sentence. Pay attention to the model number in question. Then look at the drawing of the device with this model number. Now look at the top-left corner of the drawing. Hopefully this time you get it. cheers.
@buoy perhaps you should re-read the first sentence from a different perspective.
@onyajaws I see and thank you for helping point out the duality. I remember Google had the same trouble with English when trying to get a computer to understand even the most basic sentences like "I eat prawns with chopsticks" (cue picture of a bowl full of prawns and a side order of chopsticks). It's for reasons like this all United Nations documentation is legally bound by the French version only. The English version is just there for reference. Gotta love English!
I like the Foxconn made device. It's a bit like a contains nuts warning.
I believe Nilay has already spotted the IR Blaster in that pic and is despising this product with all this heart.
Let's hope they support this better than There fecking x10i, will it run windows 3.11 ffs
Does the FCC test products in a shed?
Because it certainly looks like it.
@skyzbig
the FCC moved their research lab to montana. ted kaczynsi's cabin is virtually free of electrosmog.
Intrigued by the DVD and BD logos for region coding.
I didn't think this has a DVD or Blu-ray player in it.
I'm not sure a device that's DVD region 1 & BD region A would be that white box. I see no drive at all.
And from my estimates, that's not 33cm wide. The mouse is around 10cm wide, no way you could fit 3 of them in that chassis. Unless, of course, everything in that lab is bigger than normal
@sortius I'd say the above foto has nothing to do with the schematics shown.
As you correctly pointed out the measurments don't fit.
Also the aspect ratio is wrong. The device on the foto has clearly same lenght as depth.
@sortius If it *does* have a DVD/Blu Ray drive in it, and it's hackable to allow multi-region DVD playback, I will buy this. No questions asked. Replacing at least one box under my TV is fine, adding another one is not.
Why no, September 1st is not considered Fall.
Go directly back to 3rd grade... do not pass "GO" and do not collect $200.
Does anyone have any idea whether the technologies involved could be bolted onto a future PS3 firmware? I don't mean the hardware, just the software for the internet Google thingamaservice?
I'd like to see a list of the things Foxconn doesn't make.
@sharkync
Does not exsist my friend (: would love to see a list of electronics made in the good'ole USA. I remember back in the old Car Audio days, buying Audio Amps made in USA were the shit!, meaning Top Notch, and quality.
@skyzbig
it probably is a shed, they usually test in a structure made w/o metal, no nails screws blah blah, thats hwhat i've seen for local companies anyway
The ol' FCC needs a new mouse!
@Boh Look beyond the equinox:

looks similar to an Acer Revo

What, no Tuner card in this thing??? or Cable card??
Boxee you have until September to get rolling with the Boxee Box and Boxee remote. I have faith in you.
Will it be like this?

What's to say that Sony isn't producing the Google TV boxes for Logitech, and they'll just be rebadged?
I wouldn't be surprised if this Sony Internet TV box is just a very early pre-production model that is a mule for Logitech's version.
Loving the Rohde and Schwarz SMU200A they're using. :D
@Jonny
Oooh! An R&S Spec An too!
:D
It's baffling to me that anyone want to bother with these boxes when you can get an Acer AspireRevo AR1600-U910H nettop for about $200 which can play back 1080p smoothly and run XBMC (as well as any other pc or linux software) for a great home theater and online media scooper.
