Keepin' it real fake: Nokia X5 goes shanzhai in record time
Is this a new record? Not twelve hours after the Nokia X5 slider got official in Singapore, our friend Albert spotted this curious square-shaped, Nokia-branded KIRF in a flea market in Manaus, Brazil. Of course, this raises the horrible possibility that this odd-ball form factor just might be catching on somewhere -- but we're going to try and put it out of our minds it for the time being.

they are profs LOL
This kirf actually doesnt look too bad. It is very passable. But I rather have an original Nokia. Very good kirf nonetheless.
I love KIRFs so much.
@sedo
Non-Apple post :))
@sedo
Do Chinese manufacturers leak out the design? Just curious. Otherwise how else can someone build a KIRF in such a short span?
You know, KIRFs might suck most of the time, but you have to hand it to them, they're quick and for the majority of people, are probably passable.
@jrm125 until its turned on.
@Trevsweb Not really.... some people just need to call and send text messages... nothing else.... ooh, and a lot of people like to have two sims on one cellie, that's why these "kirfs" are so popular among those folks
@Trevsweb
and until it breaks down 2 days later
@GGG
with no warranty of course
Actually, it looks a LOT like the original...
There are always people who like "personal" looking phones. Especially in Asia.
In Japan that is one of the main factors for choosing phones to most people.
You know, outside of USA there are people that likes this form factor.... at least on my country they do....
@johnvillar In the USA too; it's just not popular to like anything but iPhones. People call you a techie geek here because you can use something more difficult than a spatula. I love that FF, but the screen is too small.
@johnvillar agreed.........clearly the phone has been designed for a specific market and not for the U S of A
@seven5suited Agreed on the screen size.... if they dropped all the front facing buttons and did a honest-to-goodness full touch screen face, say with a resolution of 640x640 pixels and with that sliding qwerty keyboard i would totally buy it (of course, they would have to put in android for me to like it, lol)
山寨。
@StringFellow Yeah... cottage to you too lol
@StringFellow
为什么你说“山寨”?
@CaryHiroyuki Tagawa 他为什么用拼音?
Ah, I see... 山寨.
Shanzhai...
山 = Mountain
寨 = Fortress
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shanzhai
That's a good explanation, but we shouldn't rely on google translate to see the meaning lol.
I wish I knew how to convert characters to pinyin without using google translate. :|
@CaryHiroyuki Tagawa 囧
@StringFellow 没有人用拼音啊
Didn't the Twist kirf predate the real one by like six months?
@Dshark
Haha, yeah, I think it did.
Maybe Nokia should hire these people to run their mobile phone division...
Damn. It took nokia 3+ months to drop this phone. And it took these guys less then A coupla of days to copy, paste, and mass produce.
I think Nokia decided to turn the table on the china manufacturers and made a clone of on of their phones hehe!
