Sony thinks E Color is the new black, gives you a whole site's worth to choose from
If your gear isn't pushing the performance envelope, you typically have to resort to alternative means for attracting those precious customers. Sony's newish VAIO E series is an exponent of just such a philosophy, with its lurid colorings and replaceable keyboard skins. The company's decided to take things up a notch, however, by now offering a Color Combo site where we can combine the gnarliest hue mismatches this side of Colorware. The chromatic choices include the laptop's case and keyboard as well as the additions of a wireless mouse and a reversible sleeve. Everything that isn't bolted down to the computer will of course cost you extra, but will you really let a little bit of cash stand between you and that magenta dream machine?

Count on it being overpriced too.
@strawe
Sony? Overpriced? What absurd claims you spew!
TWENTY LASHES!
@derX Twenty lashes? What did he do? Be a woman in Iran?
@NikAmi No, but whoever on Sony's crew who mistook all references for the colour "Green" and put yellow in its place, probably deserves those lashings more.
Check out the site and start changing the colours - all references to green are in actuality yellow.
@Scrtcwlvl
The beautiful thing about lashes are they are a completely renewable resources. In other words, they're green. Err, yellow. No, yes, green.
TWENTY LASHES to the error propagator as well.
@NikAmi
wow, what aa poor media victim.
@derX
There are actually some very well priced sony laptops. If you want a blu ray player, they are by far your best bet.
They also sometimes have the limited editions on their site for a decent price, and some of them look really good too.
@derX
Sony's laptops ARE overpriced. I'm an Apple hater and I'd still recommend a MacBook Pro over a VAIO for its amazing battery life like a netbook. If you want a powerhouse get a Sager. VAIO is just generic BS.
@Kurian Couldn't disagree more. My 16" Vio FW is over TWO YEARS OLD now with a Montavina era CPU (45nm P8400), dedicated ATI Video, 802.11N, etc.
What did I pay for this amazing Machine? $999. And yes, it compared nicely specs wise (other than video card) against the 15" ($2000) and 17" ($2500) Macbook Pros.
Sony's Battery Care feature is bloody brilliant. I have no idea why everyone doesn't have such an awesome little piece of software.
Btw, I returned a Sager with integrated video due to a RATTLING keyboard and replaced it with this Sony. I am so glad I did. It's just a far better machine no matter how you cut it.
Vio's own.
@strawe I'm typing on a 15" Vaio E series right now, that I purchased because it wasn't overpriced and the only laptop in it's price range that had a 1080p screen.
Expensive, yes. But overpriced? I contend it is not so.
@Kurian Considering you're certain to get more updated technology on your Sony Vaio, like Core i processors and Bluray, for a lot less money than an Apple laptop, I don't really know what you mean Kurian.
Come on! DVD and Core2Duo on a Macbook PRO? It is 2010 isn't it?
I just want the most affordable gear I can get. I'll take it poo brown if it'll be less expensive. If your vain with your gadgets, I cannot relate. It's just a tool.
@Dank Dillweed so what ur saying is don't be a tool to ur tool?
@Dank Dillweed
I bought a brown 30GB original Zune on Newegg back in the day because it was priced at around $99. In other words, I literally relate.
Although there are limits. I can respect a company that doesn't take design risks so long as their hardware works well and the design is functional. However, companies that just pump out off-white boxes with little thought about how it impacts the device's functionality and the desires of the end users are as bad as the turd polishers out there.
@Dank Dillweed
Poo brown. That's a wide range of color palette
Awwww, for a minute there, I thought the computer would be able to change it's color via a program. That would have been much cooler.
Posts like that make me understand why people started switching to Macs. Macs are all aluminum color, very simple. Why don't these manufacturers get it? People want reliable, simple to use computers. Not some colorful plastic toy. Make your computers pretty (without overdoing it), MAKE THEM LAST (so they don't fall apart in 2 months) and make them affordable. And Apple will be left behind.
But no! They make this sh-t.. WHY?
@bathellfire
"....make them affordable. And Apple will be left behind."
Edit: Make them affordable and Apple will be left behind.
Although I do agree that overall, the user-friendliness of its products and the aesthetic attention on Apple's part of amongst the best.
@bathellfire
Nice way to bring apple into a otherwise non apple post.
Macs are aluminum color because they are made out of it.
How is a Mac more user friendly than a Viao?
The Keyboards and Track pad are essentially the same.
OSX is only user friendly on the outside once you dig even a little into it it becomes a clusterf**k to do anything
@derX
The aesthetic attention(and durability) Apple's gives to its laptops IS the best, bar none, and that's embarrassing considering the amount of PC manufacturers there are.
Even when HP blatantly ripped off the macbook design with the Envy line, they still somehow managed to fuck it up with swirls and textures.
@DefPoet Said like a true Windows fanboy.
If you knew anything about computing on a corporate level, you'd know Macs are great to work with. I run a Windows 7 machine and it's a bitch to do any sort of real diagnostics of my network, thus why I have a Linux server sitting under my desk under VMWare ESXi.
I've noticed the tone of your posts that have anything to do with Apple as just dismissive fanboyism. If you'd ever worked on a Viao you'd realise how bad they are. Unless you vanilla it up there's Sony crap everywhere slowing it down and interfering with the OS. An end-user doesn't have the knowledge, nor the compulsion to purchase a separate version of Windows, to get the machine to run as it should. They buy it, if it doesn't work right, they crack the shits and buy another brand. Usually Apple...
Sony laptops are just overpriced garbage, and now they're ugly overpriced garbage.
@sortius
your post is a clusterf**k
You can get Sony laptops with out all the bloatware simple as checking a box on the customize site. Sony Viao laptops are very nice. Also if OSX was great to work with why have non of the Top 500 companies switched over? OSX is a paint once you do anything intensive.
Linux =! OSX Diagnostic work on linux is better than both
@Spaceshipped
The swirls on the envy are very understated and actually look and feel really nice.
By contrast, the MBP has, from some angles, an overly rugged, unpolished look to it. Don't get me wrong, it is an amazing looking laptop, and maybe better than the Envy overall, but it is far from perfect. Some of the lines are just too hard and, particularly on the larger models, the keyboard tends to get lost in all the metal.
@DefPoet Talk about clusterfucks, read your own posts once in a while.
Fortune 500 companies are switching over (or are already there... considering Apple is a Fortune 500 company), and those that are not usually host the largest botnets on the planet. Aside from this, the world is not made up of just Fortune 500 companies.
You are right, Mac OSX is not Linux, it's a Mach kernel with a BSD core. So closer to UNIX. Your point makes no sense. You are essentially saying that BSD isn't as powerful as Linux.
You make no sense because you're in such a rage you can't even type properly, typical fanboyism.
I've used the E-series with a Core i3 and it isn't so bad when considering the looks, performance and price.
I might be in the minority but I put a heavy emphasis on looks when considering tech purchases. The various color options available for the E series aren't my cup of tea but it looks good in all black.
Takes a year to load the page, then still some waiting for each color to load. CG is... a bit weak. Colors are sweet though. And where's a link to buy them? Or any other info?
Definitely a contender should I need a laptop.
@n11
must have integrated graphics or be on a netbook or mac
Flash sucks on all three of those
Sure beat's Apple's choice of .. silver, silver or ... silver.
@higherdestiny
they also have a slither of white as a choice :D
@higherdestiny That's exactly what they want you to believe. Instead of making their computers better, all these manufacturers decided to paint their computers all different colours. I agree that Apple computers look a bit boring compared to all these rainbow colored Fisher-Price quality-like toys, but at least Apple computers feel high quality.
I have a few HP and Acer laptops, and I wish some of these manufacturers one day would realize, that it's not the amount of buttons and shiny LEDs (and now colors) that make the computer great. It's the quality and speed.
wait...so unlike the photo would lead someone to believe, this is not a computer that changes colors, and adds ambiance lighting to everything?
So, this is absolutely nothing special?
I have this notebook in blue with the blue keyboard skin. Back when bought it, there was no way to see the different color combinations. I wish they would have had this back then.
with dell you can change th colour of the lolly but with sony you can change the stick and the lolly, but they both taste to sour
Talking of pushing the performance envelope, seems like someone forgot the 3.0lbs (approx. 1.5kg) carbon fiber Sony VAIO Z Series 13" FullHD 1920x1080 display, Core i7, Blu-ray, RAID 0 QuadSSD, NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 330M...
I took a look at these "E" series viaos at my local best buy and they seemed too much like a toy. This is one computer you will never see in a professional setting. I picked up the "F" series instead and have been very impressed so far.
I love SONY VAIO!:) My fav laptops indeed
