Miniature pencil tip sculptures make art from the everyday
We'll admit it: we're pretty big fans of pencils (you may remember them as those wooden sticks early humans used to scribble in their diaries with), so we were pretty tickled to see these beauties. Artist Dalton Ghetti's tiny pencil sculptures are made using only a razor blade, a sewing needle and a sculpting knife. The results are incredibly beautiful and impressive. One more shot below, hit the source for plenty more.

no way those are made out of pencil lead.
just wow.
@BrianH
Very well done. Even more impressive is that they were well kept for almost 25 years, noting the dates.
@BrianH
also, i was questioning it for a second, the ones with the chains and the one with the key.
I was wondering how the sculpture could be wider than the lead, then i realized, that it isn't wider, those are actually freemoving pieces that he carved around.
Wow.
@rutter9
thats probably the reason he was able to sculpt because the lead was probably harder in older pencils
@BrianH
with those pencils "sharpened" up so short, the guy probably had mistakes on each letter loads of times!
@BrianH Pencil graphite. :)
@BrianH Dude, that saw one doesn't even look like a pencil!
@BrianH
what is more impressive is that the creator doesn't sell any of these...he gifts them to friends! he says he is currently working on a project that will take him 10 years to complete :D amazing guy
@Firehazel
This is a special carpenter pencil with flat lead
DZ
they should make a small pencil sculpture..
homunculus sort of thing
Is this supposed be sculptures?
Oh and that is super sick.
@Nick Brown
or sculptors?
@samisax Good thing pencils have erasers! DOH
awesome!
I'm rarely impressed by anything I see on the net nowadays, but that is just epic talent.
LOL, the "pencils" link in the article doesn't lead to any articles tagged with "pencils".
@engadgetreader5 No, it leads to a page with ads on it... hit = WIN for Engadget!
looks like the signature on the one says "Dalton 12-05-87" is that...1987??? wow these must be OLD!
*sculptures
For equally impressive microscuptures, check out Willard Wigan's work.
Amazing! Especially given the fact that he uses his naked eye.
It reminds me of the work of Willard Wigan (who does use a microscope):

I am now eagerly awaiting Wacom pen nib sculptures.
Amazing! Truly art.
"Miniature pencil tip scultures make art from the everyday"
Nice spelling.
I can't believe he doesn't use any magnification. That's is just nuts. Kudos to his work.
one of those few times when i have read the news in the newspaper days before it appears on a blog i read!
AWESOME!
The purposeful lack of any reference figures by these pencils covers the fact that these are actually 3 foot wide, 30 foot tall pencils.
@klamerus
nope, those are real pencils. I've seen em. On display now at:

Some of these are on display at the New Britain Museum of American Art in Connecticut. They are truly impressive to see IRL. The exhibit has a set of magnifying glasses next to it, so you can really take them in.
They are also have a huge MC Escher exhibit on now as well, which is actually why I went, but this was just as impressive.
