The Apple iPad does not prevent scurvy.

This is just a quick reminder that Bungie Aerospace's first project, Crimson: Steam Pirates, is now available on iPad for the excellent sum of no dollars. We had assumed that the Hairbrained Schemes title was about a band of buccaneers out to steal your wine-stained dry cleaning. It turns out, however, that it's actually an action RTS game in a Steampunk 1800s setting. You'll follow the high-seas adventures of General Thomas Blood as he conducts ship battles against opposing fleets.

You can find out more about the top-down action in the video above. Or, you know, you could just download the game, what with it being free and all.

Bungie Aerospace and Harebrained Schemes Launch First Game

September 1st, 2011 – Bellevue, WA – Bungie Aerospace and Harebrained Schemes are proud to announce their first collaboration and the first title to be released under Bungie Aerospace - Crimson: Steam Pirates. Released into the iPad App Store as a free download, the game includes eight campaign "voyages" set in a swashbuckling Steampunk universe hatched from the mind of Jordan Weisman, founder of Harebrained Schemes and creator of the Battletech, MechWarrior, Crimson Skies, and Shadowrun universes.

Also featured alongside the campaign voyages are two "pass-and-play" multiplayer scenarios; more than a dozen ships, submarines, and zeppelins to command; and a unique cast of crew that lend their special abilities to the player's pirate fleet. Crimson: Steam Pirates will also ship with a second Chapter, "Tales of Captain Blood," that features an additional eight voyages for $1.99.
