The Queue: Shattered glass

Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.

I think Blizzard should scrap the dance studio concept forever and ever ... if it meant we could all get personalized theme music for PvP.

WoWie Zowie asked:

As I understand it, Tyrande Whisperwind is a Priest. Yet I see her wielding a bow and having a pet "Dori'thur" the owl. Is this because she is hiding something? Or did Blizz just decide that she needs some form of offense without being "shadow"?

Tyrande is a character that existed before World of Warcraft's class descriptions. Her unit class in Warcraft III was a Priestess of the Moon. They're more like holy huntresses than the priests we have in WoW. Priestess of the Moon abilities included:

  • Scout Temporarily summons an Owl Scout, which can be used to scout the map. Can see invisible units.

  • Searing Arrows Increases the damage of the Priestess' attack by adding fire. Searing Arrows will fire until the Priestess is out of mana.

  • Trueshot Aura An aura that gives friendly units around the Priestess bonus damage to their ranged attacks.

  • Starfall Calls down waves of falling stars that damage nearby enemy units.

The concepts used in the Priestess of the Moon hero in Warcraft III were torn apart and handed out piecemeal to all sorts of classes in World of Warcraft. Tyrande doesn't use shadow magic because a Priestess of the Moon wouldn't have any. She wouldn't use holy offensive abilities like Smite or Holy Fire, either. She would use her bow and channel the power of the moon, just like she does in the Well of Eternity instance.

Brixus asked:

Has the role+ need system been stealth updated? I haven't seen any discussion on this but this is what I noticed in my raid finder last night.

On my Druid two vanquisher tokens dropped off of one boss. I rolled need on both (cause that's just what you do) and I won one of them.(!) When I was scrolling through the chat log lookin at the rolls I noticed that after I won the one token, the other token didn't have the roll+ on it. I could need on both and it showed as a need, but it didn't show the extra 100 on the roll.

Did they change how winning loot is distributed? I would think that's pretty awesome to make loot distribution more fair.

This change was a part of patch 4.3.2. If you roll need on two identical items and win the first one, you can't win the second one. You rolled, but whether you had the role bonus or not didn't matter. You couldn't win at all.

Waikito asked:

my question is from someone who has been away from the game for a couple months. how is the new LFRaid feature working out? I enjoy raiding but have only briefly had a guild that was committed to it. if the LFRaid feature is working well(and those raids are still fun) it would definitely tilt the scales in coming back to play sooner rather than later.

That's going to depend on what sort of experience you want. Do you want a hardcore, nail-biting, heart-racing raid experience? The Raid Finder won't supply that. Do you want to see the content and have a chill, fun time? Then absolutely, come back to WoW and check out the LFR tool. It's good stuff.

Morgatho asked:

any idea why there is an invisible wall in the Eastern Plaguelands?

The wall is preventing you from seeing the back end of Stratholme, and it's also preventing you from zoning into Quel'thalas without using the proper portal to do it. Quel'thalas hasn't been updated to allow flight, plus it's still on Burning Crusade server architecture. One way or another, you'd need a loading screen to go there to filter you through the actual instance portal.

Spelio asked:

Am I the only one who enjoys fishing in WoW?

I enjoy it, but only when I'm pursuing a specific item or quest objective. I'm not going to sit around in-game and fish just for the sake of fishing; there are about a million other things I could be doing, both in-game and out.
