One Shots: Out in the cold

One Shots Out in the cold

Closing down a game like Glitch is like beating up the big-eyed orphan from down the street for his last two cents; it just feels wrong to anyone with a soul. Massively's One Shots department did its best to counter the situation by taking an angry protest nap, but nothing doing. The next best solution is to ask all of you with great Glitch screenshots to send them our way.

Reader Jeremy submitted this haunting picture that works on a couple of different levels in light of the recent announcement. "Kids," he warns, "this is a warning of the harmful effects of No-No Powder. One day, you're sitting in your pleasant home street, admiring the view. Next, you're waking up naked in a tundra with nothing but your quickly diminishing dignity."

Let's go on a cold, naked adventure together through the rest of this week's player-submitted pictures!

One Shots Out in the cold

I'm still catching up on a ton of Halloween-themed screenshots, so let's just pretend that Thanksgiving is Halloween Part II, shall we? Reader Michael shares with us a frighteningly awesome vision from DC Universe Online, and all I can think of is Stephen King's IT on steroids.

"Hey guys, here's my character from DCUO," Michael writes. "This game has so many different evil clown costumes and styles, but this is one of my favorite. Enjoy!"

One Shots Out in the cold

Reader William has this wonderfully moody shot of the recently destroyed Lion's Arch fountain in Guild Wars 2. I actually miss that fountain, as it was so intricately detailed.

William sets the scene: "After my warband and I successfully fended off the Mad King, trapping him in his realm, I walked back into Lion's Arch and beheld this sight. The corrupted moon loomed even nearer than before, as if watching over the Mad King's ultimate failure in our land. It remains ever-smiling though, almost as if to say that more awaits us. What that is, I cannot say, but plastic spiders and glow-in-the-dark skeletons are the playthings of humans, not Charr! The Mad King was but a baby Moa compared to this atrocity, and I will travel to the ends of Tyria to remove this plight once and for all!"

Whoa nelly, there, William! The Mad King just wants to have a good time, y'know?

One Shots Out in the cold

Reader Sekkano sent in two interesting shots from World of Warcraft. One shows the lush green hills of the Goblin starting area, while the other shows the same hills after a volcanic explosion. Pretty neat, yes? I mean, not for the Goblins, but at least we can appreciate the visual beauty from afar.

One Shots Out in the cold

That's it for today! I have two big requests for potential One Shots submissions, so don't fade out in this last paragraph. The first request is for any great screenshots from either City of Heroes or Glitch so that we can continue to honor them in their final weeks. The second is to send us pictures from games that don't start with "Guild" and end with "Wars 2." Not that those are bad, but we really could use some more variety with submissions. Thanks!

Want to be featured in a future edition of One Shots? Send your favorite MMO screenshots to oneshots@massively.com, and don't forget to include your name, the name of the game, and a description of the scene. Large, colorful, UI-free shots that tell a story and really show off the game make for the best images. Look ma, we brought back One Shots!
